    That NC is made with a particular method, described in detail on my website, Nunnu, and it is made from two simple components, double-based smokeless powder, such as Green Dot or Bullseye shotshell powder, and acetone. So if you do have access to those two ingredients, you'd be good to go. I love the Maltese shells and Irdieden.. Magnificent works of art. Best, ned

    I think where things went different is you used a large plastic salad bowl instead of a small stainless bowl. That probably had a lot to do with why yours was drying out quickly and you had to start scraping it off the sides. Stainless acts completely different than plastic when it comes to adhering to the material, (sides). Thanks for the video though, you have enlightened me with many different pyrotechnic projects. Keep doing what your doing cuz your making some awesome fireworks. Thanks for helping me learn more about it and entertaining me with your skills at the same time. Cheers and God Bless

There are various chemicals and formulas we play with, and lately we've been doing a lot of testing, with good results, of cheaper formulas using more readily available chemicals. Love the crackle. I like the 1/8" cubic ones, BW, but smaller can work, too. I've not tried them in rocket motors, but do like to put them in comets and gerbs. Good luck. Stay safe when trying something new like that. I don't know how the stars would sensitize rocket propellant.

  • @nedgorski

    @nedgorski

    8 жыл бұрын

    +houseoffire72 , HoF, homemade NC lacquer, made with smokeless powder, has ingredients that standard pyro-grade NC lacquer doesn't, and not only doesn't woodworking lacquer have those ingredients, but it has other "stuff" in it which makes it less than desirable for our pyro purposes. Crackle works with the lacquer made the way shown in the vid. Probably not with other lacquers. One sure way to find out, though. ned (and thanks for the pat on the back)

    +ned gorski Ok Im a bit confused after a little pondering lol... Smokeless powder is nitrated cellouse organic material... Pure NC Lac is also made from the same just with the addition of solvents to create a liquid - typically lac thinner is used instead of acetone and also used on visco fuse..Non NC - Lacquer wood finishes are filled with different fillers and I see why those wont work but why wouldnt a pure NC Lac work???

    The "dot" powders do make good NC lacquer. They just have to be slowly whisked into the acetone, or else you'll get a helluva messy clump in the bowl. Enjoy, Jim. Lots of guys come back to this passion once they have some discretionary time and money.

    Pyro is the most satisfying hobby I have gotten into, other than WW2 reenacting. Definintly addicting, I started with a simple D1 glitter kit from skylighter, then moved on to 4oz rockets, then making every color and formula I can get my hands on went from having 5 different chemicals to about 40 in about a year. Figured out some good crackle comps, and just recently started making crossettes. All in two years. You know your in deep when you start hunting down Argo laundry starch and CMC for your blackmatch.
