Making New Firework Stars (With 3" Shell Test)

Ғылым және технология

I'll have to reprime them with plain black powder but overall I'm pleased with the stars and the 3 inch ball shell.

    This may seem insignificant but I really appreciate your choice of music in your videos. I'm by no means into classical music but it's just undivisive, unlike all modern music which you either like it or you don't. I hate it went I'm watching a video with music that's really obnoxious and I have to mute it.

    I have a question about something unrelated to this video... I have trouble timing my 3" shells (gets super scary real quick!) And question my homemade gunpowder as well. I used the recommended length of time fuse but it's still bursting close to the time it hits the ground!!!! The mortar shoots the shell probably only 12 to 150 feet high and I think my shells probably should be going higher. I'm using like at least 30g black powder and i know it is fast because 10g in a muzzleloader about blew the gun out of my brother's hands!

    Start improvinh your BP. Different wood charcoal work differently. Pine works very nice for BP. Use lift 10% of your shell weight. Then Time fuse. Around 2cm piece and 5mm inside diameter burns in 2.3 seconds so make about 3cm Time fuse. Then make your shells just perfect for your mortar that it sildes smoothly Inside. Thats my tip.

    how do you use magnesium in water bound stars, with hygroscopic sodium nitrate on top of that, without it starting to oxidize and get smelly?

  • @pyro_chimera

    @pyro_chimera

    I have passivated magnesium i guess thats why they didn’t smell and i dont think magnesium reacts the way aluminium or zinc does with nitrates

    @@pyro_chimera I don't think it's good for long time storage, but yes, it reacts very slowly with nitrates compared to chlorates and perchlorates. With ammonium perchlorate you can feel a strong ammonia smell even when you treat the surface of the magnesium with potassium dichromate.

    Not all stars are ignite, take atention on priming. Stars looks glosy after priming. Before pourout stars from roler spray stars wit mixture then pour into the bucket wit PB powder for few minutes then saparate bp from stars. star will seems poudered wit bp like donuts with powdered sugar .Then they should all light up.
