Why no ball milling in 101? Just for simplicity and less tools, or is it just not needed for the projects?

Sir, What will be the good mesh/micron size for Dark Aluminium Powder filtration? And the kitchen stainer available is normally what mesh size? In India here we get those in different sie with a circular frame to filter the wheat after grinding in our home blenders (750 watt models). But I am not happy when that comes to Aluminium Powder. Recent search show that AliExpress is selling some 1 and 2 micron steel wire mesh which can be framed to use as filters for metal powder, what is your view on this?

So would you use a 100 mesh for even finer powder or is that to much,is 50 the best for powder..

I need to ask a mill question...I made a mill out of , i think its 4 inch pvc pipe with some pvc strips glued in on the inside at 12, 3 ,6, and 9 o clock. .It turns on 2 plastic shudder screws on each end . One side is a pvc cap glued on with pvc glue and the other side is a 4 inch pvc screw in cap. Seals tight. Instead of lead balls i'm using some kind of plastic dice that are a little over twice the size of normal dice. I made a 75 ,15, 10 batch of black powder and only put in half of it at a time and turn it at a slow speed. will this work ok? Is it any safer you think?Oh and there is 5 dice . one of the dice is actually ...well i dont know what its called but it has 10 sides and more like a ball. The dice I bought in the kids toy department. It was made to help kids learn math. what do you think?

Hey Ned, how often do you change the paper on your work surface?

D'pends on how quickly it gets messy and dirty, Al.. I like to keep the work surface pretty clean, and paper's an easy, cheap way to do that. n

So is screening a different concept from actual particle mess size? Since the concept of mesh is the higher the number the smaller the particle size. It doesn't really make sense this whole negative and positive thing. It's like the screening concept is completely backwards from the mesh chemical concept. Because from what I understand negative means smaller positive means higher. Because if you have powder that sits on a 20 mesh and you're calling it +20. Isn't that backwards from mess size? If it sits on a 20mesh screen shouldn't you be calling it - 20. Since - means smaller and + means bigger?

It's just a common particle size naming convention, Pat. -20+40 mesh size indicates the material passes the 20 mesh screen, but is retained on a 40-mesh screen. It is what it is.

Hello Ned , why don't you create a video on beginner BP . A Ball Mill is too hectic for a beginner to invest in .

I do have that in Fireworking 201, in the website. Just screen mixed, no ballmilling, but a small converted rock tumbler can serve nicely as a beginner ballmill.

I went to order these screens from that website but canceled it once I seen the price on shipping. Shipping cost is a little bit crazy on it’s price. Shouldn’t cost almost 20 dollars to ship two of them.

PA PYRO I think we(me for sure) have all gotten used to the speed and cost(read cheap, low cost and sometimes low quality) shipping from massive organizations like Amazon. I used to run an ebay business and the only real effective way for use to ship was usps priority flatrate. We would just stuff this stuff in there. I went to order some plugs for my mortar tubes and the cheapest option there was priority flat rate for a large box and it cost me 20plus. Small businesses get killed because of this. You are right it shouldn't cost that much but it does. Thankfully guys like this do exist and can provide us a high quality product that we likely won't see on ebay or amazon. I just had 34lbs of $8 cat litter delivered for free. It is mind boggling.
