    Jay, another outstanding video!! I agree with bro-nah, you just multiplied the total amount of content on KZread about the Prime HLP Selectorized Rack by 10x. The HLP definitely deserves more love from the home gym community (versatility under the 8 ft height limit is the magic number for most, and like you said, if you are not limited by ceilings just get the height extender) Prime needs to pump up their marketing to the level of your commentary. Also, your video quality, top notch! Quick question, did you try the Prodigy Adjustable Pull-Up station with the RO-T8 handles? I don’t see it around your rig, but figured I ask. Thank you for the work on this. Here’s hoping your viewership sky rockets! Your content is on par with others in the 200-400k subscriber range. Rep's Ares/Athena is probably the "budget" alternative. Looking forward to your prime functional trainer review, I'd like to see if the wingspan allowed on that machine for cable crossover shrugs (i.e. shrugging your arms inwards when they are stretched out in a t pose, talked about in Kelso's shrugging book) and the front double biceps cable crossover curl.

    I’ve seen a few reviews on those. If you’re not strong enough to do weighted pull-ups then I think it’s a good alternative. I personally don’t like doing rows on the floor and some of the mods to hold yourself for pull downs don’t seem as solid of convenient to set up. I agree though that it is a great budget option. Thanks for the suggestion. My gym is meant to be used by multiple people at the same time. More stations the better for my set up. The Rogue CT-1x2 is definitely unique but I would be getting less functionality out of it. It has lighter weight stacks than the HLP Rack and doesn’t have attachments, which make rowing and lat pull downs more difficult especially at heavy weights. A functional trainer with articulating arms just can’t be beat with all the angles that you can use it at. I’ve had vertical sliding only pulley machines before and they limit how close or far you can start with the handles. Plus double (maybe even quad) pulley stations is a must when I have a lot of people in the gym

    @@jaycruz.threefold Doesn't the HLP selectorized have a 2 to1 ratio, so @ 350 its actually 175, the CT-1X2 has a 300 lb stack, and if you combine both pulley per upright you are at 1 to 1 for a true 300lb stack, use one pulley per upright and then you drop down to 2 to 1 ratio which then becomes 150lbs.. Appreciate your experienced feedback, as I'm researching to put my gym together, and I can see your point about the many different angles on a arm functional trainer, and the lack of lat pull down seat with leg hold down. I did read someone who owns one uses with the help of a flat bench to sit on, a wide lat pulldown bar, and band pegs to hold there legs down in place. I would say personally if Rogue makes a similar product I’d buy I first but when you come pair what the Rogue FT-1 has to offer against the Prime HLP selectorized rack it’s hard to say yea the the Rogue FT. Also they are two different machines. A more apples to apples would be against the Prime FT. The Rogue FT is only 2:1, while the Prime HLP is a combination of 1:1 and 2:1. Rogue also doesn’t have anything that can attach to it so doing lat pull downs or low rows might not be as ideal. Rogue’s footprint is also much larger. And as you said it can also be used as a rack. There are just too many advantages to Prime over the Rogue in this comparison. 80% of my gym is Rogue so I’m being and objective as possible.

You mentioned in one of your videos that you purchased the Prime Fitness HLP Selectorized Rack because the REP system you used to have did not have heavy enough weight stacks. The REP Ares system now goes up to 310 lbs per stack. Would you have reconsidered REP in that case? My mind seems to be stuck on the high and low sets of individual pulleys inside the REP Ares for individual movements per arm but I have a feeling that Prime may be a better quality system?

    How does it compare to a standalone functional trainer? Seems like a lot of these racks with pulleys on them are coming out, it seems like a great use of space for a home gym but it is much less wide then a functional trainer. I'm wondering what your thoughts ae on its limitations?

  • @jaycruz.threefold

    @jaycruz.threefold

    11 ай бұрын

    If you want a true functional trainer the standalone is definitely much better. For home gym and space maximizing the HLP rack is the way to go. The only draw back as a functional trainer is the ability to do close and wide starting positions on the arms. The FT will be limited in weight as a high/low pull machine.

    There is an extension piece you can buy as long as your ceiling is 9’ tall that you can raise its height. The only time I feel you’ll be “too tall” is while using the Prime Fitness handles and extra links even without the extension. I have a few friends that come over that are +6’3” and have no issues.

    Hey man, I'm thinking about buying this rack however the 2to1 pulley for the low row concerns me bc I will be able to max that out. I have two questions. Q1: Does a 45lb plate fit on the weight stack using the baresteel pin or does the weight stack guard get in the way? Q2: Have you tried using something like the rogue solo pulley attachment and attaching it to the lat pull down cable to make it 1to1?

  • @jaycruz.threefold

    @jaycruz.threefold

    5 ай бұрын

    Thank you for your questions. A1: I consider my brothers and I to be pretty strong and none of us currently lift the whole stack for a high amount of reps with good form. If I used my lower back and inertia I can definitely lift the whole stack but everyone using it in my gym currently move slow and controlled. I did have a guy wokring out here, that competed in strong man and he could pull adding two 25lbs plates with the baresteel pin. The 25lb calibrated plate was the only one that could fit between the cage. A2: I have not tried the Rogue Solo but that's a great idea and could potentially work. Good experiment to try. When I have a random $205 plus shipping I will entertain the idea. :)

    How do you like that Prime Fitness Adjustable Bench? I have the lat pull down seat attachment from Prime and the padding is not firm and the vinyl is kinda slick, so I was wondering if the padding and vinyl on the bench is the same. Also I think I read that the back pad is only 10” wide unlike other benches that have a 12” back pad. Overall, please let me know your thoughts before I pull the trigger on it and regret my purchase 😅

  • @jaycruz.threefold

    @jaycruz.threefold

    I like it as a utility bench. And I use it for mostly lighter work. The pad is about the same firmness as the pull-down seat and the vinyl is the same so it is kinda slick. The bench is 10.5” thick as well. Personally while it is a great bench overall, I use it less than my Rogue AB-3. I stick to the Rogue bench better for heavy lifts. I would say that smaller athletes that lift less would still benefit from the Prime Adjustable Bench.

    @@jaycruz.threefold Awesome! Thanks for your comment! In that case, I think I’ll also keep my Rep FB-5000 with a wider and grippier pad for heavier bench presses. I like that the prime fitness bench is lighter and seems easier to maneuver in a home gym setting, plus the attachments it has. As a matter of fact, Prime started teasing an updated version of this bench that will possibly have a leg curl/ leg extension attachment and a dumbbell stand and pads for preacher curls 😍 I might wait until then to get that bench instead… we’ll see. Anyways, awesome home gym, it’s honestly better than any commercial home gym I’ve ever been to. 🙌

  • @jaycruz.threefold

    The spotter arms for this machine are pretty amazing because they have the pop lock and you don’t have to worry about a pin. The Rogue spotter arms are probably more robust but you may not be able to get them low enough due to the height of the flip down portion. It would end up hitting the adjustable pulleys
