    What strikes me funny is the Repulsor doors are smaller than the Rhino and Land Raider doors... I can only figure that they must enter and exit the vehicle prone by diving head first thru them

    Nearly all the youngsters who come into the GW store in Durham seem to come from middle class well to do family's. Price won't be a big issue for them, but working class kids would struggle getting into this hobby. Limit the range of your younger customers, limit future growth as older customers fade away.

    No. He said he isn't in a position to do so. He wanted to primaris more. I don't care if you want to play 8th, shag it or never touch it. I just don't think it's fair to give the guy stick over the amount of effort he put in to something. If you want to see the models, get them yourself or find some other channel that will review them. Glad you've a game you actually play but 8th is good gas to be fair.

    I was 100% priced out of this hobby as a kid, at 10 years old I would spend entire days at GW chatting to the guys there, watching games, learning to paint minis, I even started joining the local painting competitions whenever I got a model, but ended up having to ditch it because I couldn't afford anything there and started feeling really self-conscious about it, it made me pretty depressed in my early teens because I had something I was really passionate and invested in but couldn't actually take part in it. I'm getting back into the hobby now at 25 and its not been easy; paints, brushed, minis etc. it all adds up. I've bought a squad of intercessors, some Kurnoth hunters and the paints to paint them "properly" and its easily broken £200.... for 1 squad of marines, 1 team of kurnoth hunters and some paints and brushes. as far as I remember WH has had a reputation for being an expensive hobby, and I know several of my friends who never looked into it because of this.

    For the reivers I had not a single problem having 10 totally different poses with blades and bolt guns, you just don't have to follow the rules to build em different.

  • @MichaelLee-xu3lm
    @MichaelLee-xu3lm4 жыл бұрын

    Random tip for anyone watching this in 2020: If you buy a box of intercessors and a box of hellblasters, there is enough extra guns in the intercessor kit to just make 20 intercessors, with more varied poses (assuming you don't actually want hellblasters, as they're not very good rules wise). Two of them will need to have the grenade launcher (which is nice option to have anyway) and you'll have to use a mix of bolt rifle types as there'll only be enough attachment bits for a max of 10 each kind (I'd go with a mix of normal and auto bolt rifles, if you wanted all normal bolt rifles then stalker bolt rifle attachments look pretty similar anyway).

    I enjoy 40k for the modeling, and not being able to customize them is a huge drawback for me. I did get a Redemptor bc I wanted to put it with Leviathan legs, but otherwise I'm not interested other than the anniversary releases. So what do you think of using the Intercessors with the Stalker rifle? Worth it or no? And How do you feel about the Reivers? I think they need more AP. With only a -1 on their bolt pistol won't they struggle against any heavily armored opponent in CC? As for the Aggressors they only have AP on their gauntlets. It seems like the Primaris should be great at mowing down horde armies but I wonder about using an all Primaris force against heavier targets. Hellblasters are of course great at that but every batrep I have seen with them the enemy murders them immediately. And without them the Primaris lack a lot of anti-armor. Anyway, just my thoughts on an all Primaris force.

    Well Warhammer ether fantasy or 40k have been expensive AF here in the States ether way so price doesn't really bother me. I'm still paying 65 USD for a dreadnought and 34 USD for a Rhino. What's a five dollar increase from the base price anyways? I do like the new scale and some of the armors and the models aren't that bad ether. My only question is if this new scale is only for the primaris or all 8th edition models? I've see gray knights about the same scale of the primaris,but I only have the Dark Imperium box set and all my 5th edition models. So I've got no clue.

    Repulsor has a ton of weapons. Those weapons and their ammunition take up space in the rig. Transports are transports because they aren't filling up the vehicle with firepower. It's essentially a light tank. Maybe the rule should be space marines can ride ON the vehicle?

  • @CtrlAltGiveUp
    @CtrlAltGiveUp6 жыл бұрын

    The main thing with the pricing of the Primaris range I'd say they are universally £5 too expensive. Literally the reason I'm only buying, at most four kits, not counting Dark Imperium. Two intercessor kits, captain, dreadnought. Then I'm going to ignore the range, no matter how much I love the aggressors. A shame really, but the range is just far too expensive compared to my main army, AdMech. £22.50 for a captain or £23.50 for a box of Skitarii Rangers/Vanguard. Seems a clear choice for me. A shame really as I love pretty much all the models, except the repulsor turret. As for the transport rules issue, I'd treat is as such: primaris can go in everything, except for rhino/razorbacks, which only reivers can ride in taking up 2 slots each.

  • @joseph-ur2ks
    @joseph-ur2ks6 жыл бұрын

    i think GW went completely the wrong way with pricing because if they priced the models alot lower so they had less profit on them they would sell more, attract new people and also would make people that usually buy all their armies on Ebay or second hand more likely to buy new. per model they would make less but over all they would sell a lot more

  • @Warhamer116

    @Warhamer116

    10% decrease in price requires doubling of sales to compensate in order for revenue to stay unchanged, and that is if you can supply the increased demand. It's sort of why Tesla is struggling to deliver their cars. It is also why GW rather sells fewer models for higher price than more models for lower prices- easier to manufacture, supply and deliver and nets comparatively more. Raw economics are cruel and unfeeling- and the only way for consumers to win against it is to boycott companies that lose vision of the more humane aspects of their trade as it is the only way consumers can truly deliver a message. I've gone from GW minis to alternative producer minis or even manufacturing my own through 3d-prints (hint, reprap is cheaper than a 10 man tactical squad box and makes pretty much all tanks to fairly good degree of detail) and plasticard templates. Are they equal in detail to GW minis? Not really, but as long as GW keeps pricing themselves out of sensible price ranges, they'll do. Of course I'm just one amongst the masses, but masses are composed of individuals as well...

    My dad paid a few grand for a 4 stroke engine once as he flies RC planes with his pals during the summer months. Don't get me started on the money he spends on turbine jets for jet aircraft. Lol. I can justify spending the money on hobby stuff if he can afford to spend that on a small engine for a model plane. All hobbies are expensive. I think you get more enjoyment out of GW than a computer game. By the time you build and paint the models, you can sit back and say I did that, they'll last you longer as well than a game, you can reuse them on table top games as well. Once you complete a video game, you trade it in. I love GW, it's a great sociable hobby I find. Great looking army you have there.

    I'm just getting into RC aviation, starting out with a foam chuck glider conversion to rc, wouldn't want to crash something expensive :-p close to the bits for that in my room is a small model sub that I've sunk (pun unintended) over £1500 into at this point and it still isn't working properly after two years of on and off tinkering so by that yardstick the new primaris army is a steal :D

    Couldn't agree more, my father is into RC planes just like your father and he has spent much more than I ever have on 40k. My friends are into offroading and the parts for their trucks are insanely expensive whenever something breaks. In comparison to those two hobbies 40k isn't too bad especially if ypu know where to shop. 40k is a great hobby, weather it be playing the game or the modeling aspect..or both.

  • @GeneJordan

    Simply because Games Workshop releases a new model doesn't mean that as a gamer/collector you have to run out and buy it! Collect your models at the rate that you can assemble and paint them for display or for the tabletop in game. The idea that a player needs to drop over £400 on an army immediately is ridiculous. I think it sends the wrong message to would be new players. My motivation to paint another unit is that then I can reward myself with the purchase of the next unit I want. I collect and paint two 40K armies and I build scenery/terrain using this process.

    I wanted to start with 40k for years but unfortunately no one is playing around me in my shitty country and as you mentioned the prices i see why. To start board games (even dnd) you need time, load of money for accessories, paints, kits. Which was easy for me as tank and aircraft builder. I offered few friends help with painting and even printing them minies on my new resin printer, no change at all.

    Fair play for covering it all Super, serious amount of work. I agree that the prices are steep, but the models in the 10 man squads are far superior to the older sculpts. I think they're a nice looking bunch, but it's going to be hard for youngsters to get in to the hobby now. Maybe that's what they're after is an older playerbase, but then some of the more cartoon-y elements they've been using recently is a bit weird. Also, the whole transport rules thing is bullshit. In my head, Rhinos are a no-go for primaris, but the land raider/flyers can.

    Yeah, Primaris should be able to take anything except rhinos, even drop pods, and especially Land Raiders and the Storm Raven. As for Guilliman, honestly if you take him off that huge base, G-man himself isn't that much bigger than a Primaris, pretty sure he could fit in a Storm Raven(definitely a Stormbird or Thunderhawk), count as like 5-6 models, but physically he should be able to fit.

    well to be fair the Stormraven carries a dreadnought in the rear grapples, it's not actually inside of it. But yeah he definitely has rode in vehicles before, pretty sure the Primarchs can enter vehicles in 30k rules, don't know 100% though since I don't play 30k. But yeah if a Stormraven can carry 3 centurions, it can definitely carry G-man.

Do you know how much tooling costs for plastic injection models, consider yourselves lucky chaps as model railway fans are promised this n that n it takes years for them to be manufactured, GW in my eyes are fucking wonderful bringing you something new every week, tooling costs upwards of £1.000.000 even for a single model n they have to recoup that outlay to make a profit, if you dont like the price nobodys putting your arm up your back to buy them, its your choice I know id rather buy a Ferrari than a kia......look into how the toolings made, 50 yrs ago it was a man with a chisel n banana wood that carved the models out, so stop whinging about price and you of all people have a hard neck to moan about it as you buy everything there is whith a GW or FW badge on it....

    Honestly, been tempted to get a Chinese recast of certain units, love GW. But I honestly feel sour after buying guilliman recently as he doesn't come on his own!!! What a gimmick to keep the price high, I could get a good sized vehicle kit for the same, and there's far more parts / transfers weapon options etc etc, Bought the new codex and guilliman and you barely get change from 200!!!!

    GW now reached the point where their products have the same price of Forge World models, but with one big problem. GWs models are not Premium. Yes the detail is nice, but compared to FW or other Premium Companies? Far from that level. I can not imagine that anyone with experience would buy GW Models if he could buy an FW equivalent.

    The transport constriction is the single most frustrating thing about the whole Primaris ordeal, game-wise. It really does ruin some of the fun. I love a lot of the details, but I also think there are too many of them. The amount of grenades, panels, belts, little packs and other details the Reivers have drives me nuts when painting. It's a first world complaint, but painting the mini marines was a lot more satisfying compared to the effort put into them. Overall it's a good thing, I'm glad the Primaris came about and I'm even more glad that they're trying to fix the lore.

    It just doesn't make sense imposing transport restrictions. I know they did it to try and 'push' sales for people collecting Primaris armies however as you said I don't believe that without the restrictions they would have sold less, in fact quite the opposite IMO. GW have been really on the ball so far this year IMO, and have been trying hard to do better however this is reminiscent of their past, not all habits die easily I guess. It doesn't bother me enough to not get the kits as I'm a collector primarily and the units I'm using in game don't need a transport however I fully understand why people were pissed and it felt like a bit of a low blow. I think the models are really very nice, I actually prefer Primaris to normal marines. I think they look better and are nicer to paint too. The prices are a little on the high side (except the redemptor which I think is good value), the single models are too pricey but the rest of the range is ok. Interesting thing, in 7th edition a 1500pt army from GW would cost around £400. I found this across 7-8 armies I priced up. Haven't done it for 8th yet but maybe I should and see where a primaris list fits. Maybe a video there for you Sup3r :p. A good honest review which is what we need more of. Good job as always!

    3:45 And GW rules guys tried to say that they don't make gimmicy rules to try and sell models - they were referencing the kharadron overlords from AoS, I think it was the enginriggers only having 1 special weapon type per box but the rules said the squad could take 4 of each. They totally make rules to try and sell models. Maybe in the kharadron overlords it was a legit mistake because they want the box contents to match the rules.

    i like what they're doing in making the units inflexible on their weapon options. I would however like to see them add some form of anti-vehicle squad. As of now the only real anti-vehicle they have would be the tank or over charging the plasma incinerators, which can work but at great risk to the expensive weapon wielder. I know that there is nothing stopping you from including a regular space marine dev squad....but if you're looking for primaris exclusive force, facing heavy vehicles could be a problem.

    Even the gaming hobby is expensive, console gaming is the cheaper end of the spectrum as you don't have to keep upgrading the parts like a PC. But even then a console upon release does cost a fair bit, then on top of that you add the price of the games, extra controllers and headset etc. Then you have games that are half complete upon release which are then patched up with pricey DLC

    The point about value (video games vs space marines) was the opposite of what you suggested imo. Parent buys 10 marines. Built and painted in a week. Child wants more already. Video games these days, especially fortnite as it's free and addictive as hell, will kill far more time and far less money than an interest in building warhammer armies.

  • @Sup3rSaiy3n

    @Sup3rSaiy3n

    TheGlobuleReturns I disagree. No one will be playing Fortnite in 20 years time. However space marines will still be around and playable. Not all games are free. The majority cost money and now include micro transactions, even single player ones. Also you’d have to include the price of an ipad/phone, console or PC. I’m an avid video gamer with hundreds of videos games and Warhammer enthusiast. Technology improves much faster than model soldiers. I cannot play the majority of my games from 15 years ago because of this, whereas I can still use the models. I do understand your point about short term value in not paying for specific games and the amount of time kids can sink into them. On top of that it’s social interaction via a headset. Imo I don’t think it’s right to encourage such a thing or as a substitute for parenting.

  • @TheGlobuleReturns

    @TheGlobuleReturns

    6 жыл бұрын

    Let's be honest.. Anyone who still plays with their space marines 15 years later, has probably made a vast number of additions to their collection since. I've never heard of anyone who buys one army and ignores every subsequent release from GW, while also remaining interested in the hobby. Also, games from 15 years ago to me are single player games that just require a pc to download again, but that's a digression. The main comparison there is that games age much in the same way that warhammer models do. When we load up an old game for some nostalgic goodness it's almost impossible not be disappointed and think 'wow, how times have changed'. A similar feeling is often applied to old models. They may have great sentimental value, but with newer ones coming out, there is a period where they begin to look stale and out dated. Not just in terms of looks but in terms of fashion (I know, not a term widely associateed with Warhammer, but you see the implication). I'm not sure you disagee on the main point. I'm not saying space marines don't have sentimental value, re-sell value, or unlimited uses in games on the board. It's more that 1 £45 video game doesn't equal £45 worth of miniatures/paintsbooks etc. To get a solid army and paints you're easily talking more than the price of a console. You get more out of the console for the money, in regards to the amount you have to spend to get the most out of each past time. I'm saying the fact that children often want more and more once they're bored with something, combined with the addictive nature of warhammer collecting, means they will cost parents more over time than modern day video games. Fortnite may well be gone in 20 years, but by that time the kids will have grown up. I do believe, however, that Fortnite will be around for many years. The micro transactions are optional, and parents with tight budgets may not wish to shell out money for uneccessary add ons to a game. Despite this I'm sure most kids do end up purchasing micro transactions. I certainly do. Their is no optional aspect to warhammer if you're heavily into it. The price of the console (around £200 nowadays), is a one time purchase that should last for years. More and more games coming out are free to play. Whereas no aspect of collecting warhammer will ever be free. The game itself is free, as with many video games, but warhammers 'console' is games workshop, which is an ever changing and growing collection of miniatures, paints, books etc. Don't get me wrong. I often argue that Warhammer is the perfect hobby for young people to get into today. Kids don't read anymore, other than social media feeds. I think that has strongly stunted literary acumen amounst the younger generations. Many of their attention spans are so poor that they can barely get to the end of a movie never mind a book! If they can read and enjoy reading, they will greatly increase their chances to excel far and above their classmates when it comes to proccessing information on paper. The social intereaction that warhammer can offer is great too. I do feel that online chat can be a great way to stay connected with friends, and even meet new people, but I agree it can be a double edged sword when it's treated as a replacement rather than a supplement. The instant gratifcation and quick dopamine releases that kids crave nowadays can be well supressed via the painting element of the hobby. Working towards something, and not expecting an instant or easy reward for little to no effort, is something I feel many kids (and even young adults like myself, 22) struggle with too. I'm sure training a young mind to enjoy and appreciate the value of hard work can be a massive help to their studies, and even their overall approach to life. I just felt that tiny little bit of your video could have been put differently is all. The money/value argument is better put when it refers to the opportunity cost i.e all the things that the hobby can potentially do away with, the worst of these being things like drug use and spending all your money on drink (if you're into Warhammer, you aren't likely to have the money required to be binge drinker haha). The video game argument doesn't seem to work when it refers just to money saving and time investment. The time frame is the main reason for this. If you're talking about 15 years of warhammer and gaming vs 15 years of only video gaming I'd say the biggest 'savings' will be for your mind and progress with life, rather than money. I believe this to be the best way to sell the hobby to parents and/or the kids who might be thinking about getting into it. Just my 2 cents.

    Not at all. It was simply to provide context for the opening reply. The argument is still as valid or invalid with or without the quotation, is it not? No attempts to defame. Are you implying that I was patronising you and assuming you wouldn't understand the specific part of your comment I was eplying to? This wasn't my intent. In fact, I'll edit the reply, the quote isn't even needed. The reply had one quotation, and that was at the very start. There was absolutely no malice intended in my comment. I'm just giving my opinion. It disheartens me that you would brush it off so harshly simply for the use of quotations for context. The way online communications work means that it's not always obvious to see which part of the original comment each part of the reply is referring to. With the risk of sounding even more patronising, I'm actually going to assume you saw how long the reply was and quickly came up with an excuse to dodge having to deal with it. Fair enough, if that's the case. Quoting has nothing to do with defaming (if it isn't out of context and/or paraphrased to imply something different to it's original meaning), because the only one doing the defaming is the original speaker. If you assume your own quote is defamation, you are insulting yourself. It's how the quote is dealt with, that decides if is it or isn't defamation. You can't possibly ever know if you 'switch off' as soon as you see your own words..

All the stuff you said is true and closing the door on the rest of the marine line is a very very dumb move. Its forcing the hand of the consumer to choose, and with the prices going up on these new marine is just dumb! Its very sad that a company can bone the people that want to buy and play this game. Its so expensive that i can see the sales dropping. The local store here in town is always empty unless people are playing a game. But were not the only ones that say the price is to high for what you really get. Price per ounce of plastic to shelf price. This is one reason why China recast is on the up and up. Hate saying that but you can't even go on ebay anymore with out thinking is this recast or true GW or true FW.
