RBPage, Lexton Rd Box Hill make & sell a spray contact adhesive that far surpasses anything available from big stores.Spray on both surfaces, wait five minutes & put surfaces together for an insane grip. Also great for glueing wooden pads on sash clamps etc when you dont want them to shift around & fall off.

I almost went with cork, but I already had a big piece of leather hanging out in the shop, so I used that.

Leather definitely works well in my experience. However i wanted to see what all the hype over crubber was and it's quite a bit cheaper than new leather (at least here in Perth) if you can't source some sort of old leather.

I have used silicone backing sheet. Super inexpensive (4 usd on amazon), very thin, and enough to cover both jaws. Grips like crazy and is heat resistant. Also glue does not stick if i use my vice to clamp something in the jaws that is being glued

Great idea, bonus that glue does stick to it.

Looks good too, though i like the silicone idea someone in the comments had. If you have a local leather craft shop their offcut bin is a great source of cheap odd shaped bits 😊

I like the silicone idea too. I wish i had a leather craft shop near me but i don't, I might have to try and find one. Thanks for the suggestion

Interested how it holds up. I use the ribbed plastic drawer lining from Bunnings held on with double sided tape. Works a treat and easy to replace if accidentally damaged. Thanks for doing the review!

I hadn't considered ribbed rubber from Bunnings, that's a good idea and easy to replace is a plus.

Great idea. I wonder though, maybe it would be better glued on with hide glue to make it easier to remove in the future if needed. Cheers

At Timbecon if you look at this link: www.timbecon.com.au/torquata-crubber You can select the 510 x 1270 x 1.5mm sheet from the drop down box. This place here also has it :www.cwsonline.com.au/shop/item/torquata-cr-0001-crubber-510-x-1270-x15mm

Why not contact cement, in order to save cost?

  • @AussieWoodshed

Definitely another good option. To be honest I didn't have any contact cement and since i had good results using the PVA previously i decided to stick with it.

New leather is expensive free sofa leather is good but clapped out motor cycle leathers are also a possibility. However cork rubber wins on availability.

I just cut up a cheap thin yoga mat.. Curious how this will hold up as well. I looked for crubber but couldn't find any bits large enough.

I could see a thin yoga mat working fairly well. Timbecon was the only place i could find crubber large enough for my vise.
