I cannot stress it enough how helpful these visual and imagery-driven explanations are to my learning. It really places the body in the diagnosis, as opposed to there being an outside agent taking over the mother's body. Though most of these pregnancy issues are uncontrollable, it helps to witness the chronological steps, even through drawings, of going through the motions of the complications. The woman's body is always fighting! Thank you for thoroughly breaking down the chemistry of the common circumstances that may come with pregnancy, labor, and delivery. #birthinglittlehumans

betamethasone needs from 24 to 48 hours to kick in, So they give tocolytic to delay labor until betamethasone kicks in.

Great video, but I am still confused in regards to magnesium sulfate. Magnesium Sulfate is a tocolytic. So it is given after 34 weeks gestation (obviously before 37 weeks) with betamethasone and before 34 weeks gestation (after 20 weeks gestation)? Any input will help.

Betamethasone is used for fetal lung maturity in case the tocolytic therapy doesn't work and the labor is going to happen. Tocolytic therapy is used as an attemption to try to stop the contractions from happening and to prolong the pregnancy and not as a method of giving steroids time to kick in. Also magnesiun sulfate IS a tocolytic therapy, together with nifedipine and prostaglandin synthetase inhibitors, and, is not a drug that might prevent brain damaging or whatever. I was watching this video as a way to remember the lession, but now, i have to get back to the book and read it all over, because your video messed all my infos.
