    Brian the Pennsylvania New Haven aka metro rail is now running trains to the cape again. Their running two old new haven FA 's like your father used to run. Just on the weekends. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They run up from Penn station stopping at all the major stops to the Cape and back. Their restoring train service, because of the canal bridges replacement. Also Mass coastal who has the lease from the state for the rails as an agreement with CSX to start running freight again to the new freight depot they added to the Hyannis inter module Cape rail hub. This is the 3 rd weekend that Metro rail has been running their weekender from Penn Station. Brian Those FA 2's Metro is running up here are around the same time as that GE 50 ton switcher you just bought. The also are running their original pull man cars, with an old Amtrak observation car.

    But even more important: I also saw track building work here in Germany more than once, where the ballast was delivered by trucks on streets.instead of hopper cars on rail! Is that the " capitulation of the system railway"? Railways seem not to be the medium of choice for transporting goods. Not even, if the destination is sooo close near a track. And even, if ballast cars exist and allow to unload on spot. What a silly world...

    Center cabs are barred from mainline railroads. Also do not have alignment control couplers or draft gear. Maximum tow speed for a GE centercab is something like 25 mph as well. Pretty sure they would not hane the intrain forces of a moden 1.5 mile train behind them as well, same reason they did not run cobooses behind the engine in over the road freights.

You don't have to show them on camera, you could just tell us what they said while keeping them anonymous.

    There four two connected buildings (Physically, but not by actual owned track): a small contract warehouse, a plumbing supply company, a specialty bakery, and a zoom boom rental place. Not sure how interested they would be in rail service, and especially rail service from a non railroad. If he wants to serve customers, transload, or store cars he first needs to start talking with the STB. This could get real funny real fast. But I think their real plan is to just set up a car repair facility, maybe in that big empty lot next to the tracks.

  • @originalm3233

    @originalm3233

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ironmatic1 How are they physically connected? Those are separate buildings. Unless you mean they are "connected" by roads? The baking company is its own stand-alone building. The pluming company is its own building and so is the distribution company. The baking company, the warehouse, and the plumbing supply company all seem to have a large amount of freight delivered via semis/trucks. The spur that leads to the plumbing company and the distribution warehouse seems to be in the best shape. The "J Lead" which is the spur that leads to the Carbons company used was ripped out years ago. There is little hope to revive the carbons company as a customer. Any company utilizing any form of logistics delivery is always a potential customer, especially if there is an existing spur that leads up to their business already. With rising fuel prices and a shortage of qualified truckers it might be possible to offer rail service again there. Now, I hear what you are saying, the odds of that happening are low.

    @@originalm3233 I meant physically connected by rail, but by rail that ECTR does not (yet?) own. Remember that not everything is economical to ship by rail, for example, the plastics manufacturer makes sense as a rail served industry with regular shipments in extreme bulk, hundreds of tons at a time, but Jacobi Carbons which makes skin care products would probably be a less-than-carload customer, which just doesn't work with modern railroading. Also, Brian doesn't seem to be much of a supply chain solutions company, I feel like there might be some problems with him working as an awkward middleman between a rail customer and G&W. I wonder if G&W even knows "their" spur has been bought by someone, their website still lists it as theirs. And since of course the parcel he bought technically includes a sliver of G&W's active spur, I think if they knew they'd have something to say.

    @@ironmatic1 Well, let's not use exact names here. I never said the carbons company was truly in-play. The spur there got ripped out between 2005 and 2007. So they stopped having an interest in rail service years before the main spur closed. From what I understand/remember (I could be wrong), some other railroad (CSX maybe???) had 1 or 2 active customers left before 2010. The railroad decided to stop service. I don't know who those final 1 or 2 were but the railroad abandoned them. I think everything stopped by 2013 and things after that started to look really overgrown/abandoned on the spur. Since those 1 or 2 customers were left hanging, meaning the rail service did not end because customers were no longer interested, it ended because the railroad decided to stop servicing them. Therefore, it might be possible to rekindle their interest in rail service. Now here is what I would like to get your opinion on. I think you are right that Brian might be focusing on rail car repair service. The freight brokers sound like they never really came through with lining up business for Brian for rail car storage. I think he even mentioned this in a video. He won't be allowed to run his loco on the main due to restrictions. Will the rail cars be delivered to the front of the spur by G&W and Brian will use his loco to bring it the rest of the way to the repair area? One last thing about the local railroad there, Brian has had site engineers from the railroad out there. So G&W shouldn't be surprised on what he is doing. Brian bought the parcel from the county/city government. Whatever Brian ends up doing, if it is railroad related then he will need some cooperation with the railroad so he can access the main line rails to meet up with another train for pickup or returns. *If G&W is surprised or unaware of this then it is a failure on their part to manage and track their portfolio of inactive industry spurs and railroad real estate.*

    @@originalm3233 The tenants in those buildings today are probably not the same ones who had rail service back in the day anyhow. I was actually wondering how he plans to use that thing too. I think the only way it could really work would be to construct a very small siding at the north end to park the locomotive to keep it from being trapped by cars all the time. (Trackmobile might be more useful here!) I'm sure G&W would just deliver the cars to him, treating him as a customer and the track as private industry track. There's a cold warehouse near me that has a second track on their property where a few different passenger cars and switchers have been stored. The warehouse isn't a railroad, so it has to be UP doing the storage, which I assume is worked out with the owners of the warehouse, so I'm not sure, but he might also be able to work with G&W to use his track for their storage services, leaving him with a portion of the profits. While I don't see this turning out as a common carrier railroad, I do think he could probably set up a pretty good repair business there. Doing fast repairs on boxcars and such (maybe even contracting with G&W 🤔), restoring switchers for museums or industries, and other equipment like passenger cars and cabooses for museums too.
