When I became a quadriplegic in 2009, I didn’t have any insight into the lives of the roughly 20% of Americans living with a disability. While dealing with my recovery, I also had to grapple with how my identity was being reshaped by social barriers and attitudes that hindered my ability to live and interact with the world in the same way as before.
Over the years, I’ve been able to transform my own understanding of disability. I believe society is now witnessing a shift in the way people like me are given voice and represented in media and beyond.
Now I’m on the cusp of welcoming twin girls into the world. I face the same joys and challenges of any parent, with some extra twists! Join me on a journey of beauty, love and adventure as I prepare for parenthood in a world built for the able-bodied. I hope my story will challenge biases and equip viewers with new perspectives.
