Pregnant Molly Fish with Babies? Help

A pregnant Molly fish tries to lay her babies near the bottom of the substrate near hiding places. The mother Molly fish gets anxious and runs and tries to find a safe place to give birth to her babies. You can tell when she is pregnant because her stomach and lower abdomen is swollen and she’s getting close and ready to give birth.

When your molly fish is pregnant there are two approaches that you can go with in your aquarium. The first approach is to remove the pregnant female and try to raise her and the babies in a separate aquarium. This increases the likelihood of the baby surviving because you remove them from the other fish and giving them the ability to eat and consume the babies.
The second approach is to leave the pregnant Molly fish with her babies inside of the aquarium. This opens up the possibility of other fish eating the babies of the Molly fish but there is still a chance that some can survive. This is the most common approach because it’s the easiest and most natural way.
There are also some things you can do to your aquarium to increase the chances of the Mollie fish baby surviving. You can add adequate cover near the bottom of the substrate for the Molly fish to lay the babies in. This gives the babies a higher chance of survival rate because they can hide. Rock piles or heavy vegetation are great examples that you can use to have the babies hide in.
The more hiding spots and heavy cover you have in your aquarium the higher odds that your Mollie fish babies will survive in your aquarium. Those hiding spots ensure that the babies have better odds of swimming away from the predators trying to feed on them. The molly fish parents will also consume their own babies and young so it’s not only the other fish but also they’re own parents.
Long term, the easiest way to breed Molly fish and have the baby survive is to just have lots of coverage in your aquarium. This is what breeders have been doing for years and it is the easiest.

You didn’t mention difference between a bloated female and a loaded female. I’m having bad luck with a breeding trap. I put them in thinking they are huge and ready, and the days go by…nothing. Then I think if I take them out, they will have their babies in the tank. Frustrating. I can’t tell when they are actually ready.
My molly is pregnant - wasn't intentional, we have 2 female mollys one 1 male molly and 3 baby guppies, I'm thinking about getting a separate tank but can you please advise how to set up or anythung i should do

You can use the same method for platies, swordtails, guppies, endlers, mosquitofish, least killifish, and limias

This is a really cool vid btw I just found out that I actually have a male Dalmatian Molly I thought it was a female because he started mating with another Dalmatian fish and I was like what? And then I looked closer at him and boom!
