I got a molly a few days ago and it turns out shes pregnant. How will I know she’s ready?

So you do have poecilids . What species do you have beside black Molly ? I have guppies , Molly balloon , swordfish , platy . Handler .

I got my Molly form petco yesterday and she gave birth today. How do I remove the fries from the main tank. It seems difficult. And I’m scare they would get eaten

I bought my molly 2 days ago and she gave birth yesterday. There’s at least 20 fry that we separated. The mom mostly distances herself from the rest of the fish. Any tips on how I can care for all of the babies as well as the mom? Is she done giving birth? Also there’s one fry that has a much lighter color than the others.. is this normal?

Fry’s are supposed to have lighter colours when there tiny the older they get the better and brighter the colours get if there not black! You get boil a egg and when it’s done boiling u can open it cut it and take the yellow yolk crush it then put it in the bright sun and wait for to dry after 3 hours take it crush even more to tiny tiny pieces and bam j got home made fish food for fry Or you can buy first bites from Amazon OR get the normal big fish food and crush it!

Btw of the Molly’s still fatter then usual separate her she might got sum fry’s still… I recommend separate her and keep an eye on her!

i just recently discovered mollys aren't naturally fat,so if your mollys are fat it means they're pregnant which isn't always the case since it could also be overfeeding,but keep your eyes on the fat ones

Before birth the molly will begin to isolate herself and stop eating. Seeing her swim backwards and splaying her fins is also a sign of labor

Why do black molly fry go to the bottom? Is it because they’re just learning how to swim?

How do I know when to put her in the birth thing? I have the same one you do and I had her in there for about 3 days but she never chilled out or gave birth so I took her out. I just don't understand when to put her in there! Please help!

Thats a tough question to answer! This one had given birth many times for me, and I was able to recognize her size and when she was ready. The hard thing is placing them in the fry trap too soon can stress the fish out, and they give birth prematurely. If they do, you will see some free swimming fry and some eggs. Sometimes its just trial and error i'm afraid.

From what i noticed your molly might start glass surfing if she is ready to give birth. That’s what mine did... i had no idea she was pregnant because about 2 months ago i introduced a new set of Molly’s to the tank with my one original because the tetra i had as her tank friend died suddenly. I can only assume that i had a female molly at first and introduced two males to the tank, the two males fought to death over the female and spawned in the tank before they died. She got pregnant and i haven’t introduced any new fish to the tank because i thought i was just a bad fish owner. So i waited to get new fish when i was ready. Glad i didn’t because now she has a whole tank to herself and her fry. There is only 3 fry, and she is still big so i can only assume she hasn’t finished birthing or she ate the rest. Either way I’m very happy to have left my tank for a day and came back with 3 beautiful molly frys. They’re black Molly’s but these seem to be translucent on the tail fin. I’m can’t wait to see if they all retained the black gene, and how they are shaped. The other males were more sleek and one was particularly a mattish black. My molly is very young maybe only 6 months old so maybe she won’t have many fry?

@@pjbroke335 that was likely one of her first times giving birth, and so it is also likely she didn’t have many, and also would’ve eaten any that she saw, as she often will mistake them for food. molly’s can hold semen for up to 9 months, so it is likely she may get pregnant again. if you want more fry to survive i would recommend getting a birthing box or a fry tanks from amazon or your LFS, otherwise, without a multitude of hiding places it is very likely that the fry will either be sucked into your filter and killed, or will be eaten by the mother. side note: both mollys and teteras are SCHOOLING fish, tetras should have at least 5 in a school, and mollys, it is recommend, like guppies, to have 3 female and 1 males to prevent the males from harassing the females to death. if you want to raise the fry, you also need to consider the tank size, as mollies are relatively large fish, and it sounds like you may have a small tank. i would recommend at least 20 gallons for around 8 mollies, including lots of hiding places, regular water changes and tests for ammonia. also, if you want to raise the fry, i would recommend getting fry-specific food like ‘first bites’ as the fry cannot eat the normal large pellets that we feed adult fish. an even better alternative to this is baby krill for the fry. good luck on your baby fish journey, and make sure you stay well-informed !!!

@@pjbroke335 also a more recommended way to recognise when labour is likely to happen is when a molly’s pregnant belly begins to square out, and the bottom part turns quite straight, instead of round!

it depends on how big the white female was and yes the parents do eat the fry so it would be smart to move the fry in a separate tank.

Fish Lover omg Fish lover, I watched your how to find out if your Molly is pregnant video and I found out that my Dalmatian Molly was pregnant and mine had 6 fry.

Is this a common black molly

Pls help me.. I have one like yours.. And I just got her a few days ago. And i suspect she's pregnant. And i don't know when to separate her. She's still quite active. She still don't shoe signs like staying at the bottom, less eating, etc. Im just scared that the mother might give birth and the babies would be eaten.

When you keep livebearers thats always a possibility. Sometimes separating the female can stress her out, and cause premature labor. I would say get to know your fish a bit better (it will happen with time) and you will be able to judge the progress of the gestation based on her size.

I watched my fishes all day since before i watched the video and commented. And observing signs. I have 4 mollies(all female;my mom bought them) I have 3 marbles(I'm suspecting the 2 are pregnant) and 1 black molly(pregnant). Then today I bought another 2 marbles(1 male and 1 female). I'm excited though, it'll be first time for me.

Dr. Roberie . You dont need to seprate the mother just add some flouting plants for babies to hide it then seprate the babies . And if you do this correctly you should have atleast 20 fry

We bought mollies a few days ago and one was pregnant. Our Molly was shaking as well, she ended up having 6 babies yesterday but one was stillborn. She is completely fine and back to normal, I’m sure your fish will be fine

Alicia Sunderland yeah mollies can actually develop a disease that causes them to shake, it can actually kill them sometimes. I would do more research and find treatments/ cures for your fish

My full orange Molly died before giving babies :( Even her babies from last batch died. Than I only had guppies

I’ve been waiting for my black molly too give birth she must’ve given birth when I was asleep and I hadn’t removed her from the fish tank yet and I think all the babies have been ate .

At some point, yes. But she can store sperm for a long time. So you can buy just female mollies, keep them with no males and they can still give birth, if they were kept with males at any point before you bought them. They can also mate with guppies and produce hybrid babies.

She will look plumber and her belly looks swollen, a bulge below the gills, hiding in plants or staying away from others, but may be aggressive if approached especially towards females

It's not in hd but it's good quality, And I have a black molly who gave birth after a week, I'm not surprised though because it was a black molly male and a black molly female in the same tank (they didn't have any aggression or anything.)
