Sometimes the Mexicans fatten up skinny horses before slaughter, they want horse meat, not just bones

My first gelding was on his way to a slaughter yard when I brought him and took him home. He was ten years old and so gentle, I loved him dearly. That happened 45 years ago, his picture is on my refrigerator and I have wonderful memories of Sam. ❤️ Best horse ever, he’s in my heart to stay.

I've just turned 22 and am in training to learn how to save, care for, and re-educate horses that have been rejected. I see so many misunderstood horses going to slaughters, left in paddocks from foal to adult barely touched and then deemed dangerous. I currently work at a rescue where we saved a Mumma mare and her baby foal from slaughter and every day I am inspired to go out there and do my best for these animals because they deserve it. It's impossible to save them all but changing the world of one animal is still such a beautiful blessing and worth every moment

Just a lot of patience..and get ready my horse threw me off more times than I could count..ok I bounced..I was 13...we sold him to a teenage girl and her mom and dad...they kept him on their farm until he was over 30...they called me when they had to put him down..but he always had little girls taking care of him...big flirt!

Animals are no property of nobody, they are not toys... You don't really love animals if you force them to live standing by your rhythms, giving you their milk which in nature is only produced to feed the newborn baby, in the right amount for that purpose.

Years ago I grew up in Cornwall on a farm and caravan site ( RV park ). We were right at the end of the bin wagon's round, and the binmen would often look in for a coffee before driving to the dump. Once, the shocked and very angry driver told me they'd been asked to take away a "large item of rubbish" from some yuppie's place. This item was a SHETLAND PONY (!) which the thoughtless yuppie twats had bought for their spoilt brat of a daughter. She got too big for it, so let's throw it away... ! I took the LandRover up to this place and rescued the pony, followed the bin wagon as they knew where to go ! The yuppies were run out of town not too long after...I wonder if they were chucked in the bin wagon !

We did this...adopted an abused, pregnant horse. Her foal died at birth, but that mare became the best riding horse ever! I did so love my sorrel Lady Red. ❤❤❤

I hate people who have there horses slaughtered and who slaughter horses and we are lucky and I love people like you guys who save horses

someone really needs to check out that auction house. that was a lot of malnourished horses in too small a space, even if they're supposed to be processed or whatever. it shouldn't be legal.

actually the amount of space needed (for legal) is whatever the state or county laws are. and auction houses just need stall sized area for a horse. it's wrong. But I doubt what their doing is actually illegal

As a horse rider/lover the fact horses are auctioned and slaughtered actually makes my heart hurt...

I'm a city guy but to me there's nothing more majestic than seeing a horse run, and seeing a mare with her colt along side her......well......thats just icing on the cake.

im not saying that the person that did this had this reason or not, im always slow to condemn people that are putting up their livestock, pregnant or not, for sale to terrible people because maybe they needed money terribly at that mightve been their only option. Not saying that this person had this reason but i dont like to condemn people before knowing a fuller story for the sole reason that it mightve been a last resort

Seeing this has help a lot! A few days back, we went to the auction and bought ourselves a dapple mare. She’s extremely malnourished, and depressed. The people there said she wasn’t;t pregnant, had no diseases or not, but turns out, she’s roughly 3 weeks along, and has laminitus. Having this mare is quite hard, and seeing her in this condition on a daily basis doesn’t help, but were working her up slowly, and hopefully shell go into foaling safely, and the both can find their fortune with us and our others.

I absolutely love horses and other animals including goats, llamas, pigs, cows, cats, dogs and etc. Would love to some day work with animals and get a hands on experience.

When I am feeling like the world is horrible, i watch a vet ranch video. It reminds me there are some truly awesome humans out there. Y'all are doing God's work. Thank you for all you do

Newborn animals such as foals can walk and run in about an hour because they're prey animals. In the wild, if foals couldn't run nearly immediately after birth, they wouldn't survive.

Orion is perfect with his little star!

I am the proud owner of two horses. Both geldings. Both happy, healthy, a little bit goofy, and both allowed to be horses. Both were GIVEN to me by owners who simply had too many horses on their pasture. I'd love to tell anyone considering purchasing a horse to look into those horses who are considered "culls"...who maybe don't have the papers, or aren't the "right" color, or who maybe aren't as flashy as a "new" horse. It's a wonderful feeling to know you took two horses who were unwanted and gave them a great life, and it's an amazing thing to see their little quirky personalities come out as they bloomed under good care, time and patience. My boys have turned out to the absolutely beautiful horses who are easy and gentle to work with (the vet and farrier love them) and we ride in rope halters. The people who gave them away (and those who knew the horses before) are stunned when they see them and ask if they're the same horses. Yep. The same horses, and their loss is my gain.

21Cauzzie Absolutely. Our dog was a give a way puppy, and we found our cat at the edge of our property when she was a tiny kitten. (So small she fit in the palm of my hand and had to be fed with a medicine dropper). As soon as they were old enough, they were spayed/neutered and are a joyous part of the family.

It makes me sick, but what's the difference between a horse burger and a cow burger? Cows are just as gentle and affectionate, curious and funny - and some, like the Jersey cow, are downright beautiful. What about that cute lamb or adorable inquisitive calf whose young lives are cut short or painfully under-lived for some stupid cut of meat? Also, it's really just French Canadians (Quebecois), not typically 'Canadians' who eat horse meat.

Savannah Petrone Ugh, the slaughterhouses of Mexico are hideous...Just seen a vid of one, and my eyes are sore with the tears.. we have local slaughterhouses here that are called ''cruel'' but they are like a palace compared to some..too many horses are bred. Very sad.

Berlin Saint Clair Horses are just commodities for many...once the person is done with them, too old, too lame, or even can't sell them, they ship them off to auction with no reserve. The coward's way out.

Burst into tears when I saw them running free with the other horses, not bloody and mangled in some rusty disgusting slaughterhouse 😭😭😭😭😭 thank you guys so much from the bottom of my heart!!! I'll be a regular donator from now on and will encourage others to as well!!

Laurie B yes! God bless those who step-up! Maybe people like you & I, regular people who do not have the ability to go out and rescue these horses could at the very least advocate to the young & even the old, on how important it is to treat all living things with respect & love. . Maybe, just maybe we too could be doing a service & help keep our animals protected against cruelty? . . Let’s try!

this one definitely stuck with me. the poor mother remembers how terrible all that was and I'm sure she's so happy and knows how lucky she is that her baby gets to live a wonderful life.

Kathy Corker even then it’s not okay. That’s like killing a puppy for the puppy biting your kid because it was never taught to be gentle. Gentling your horse is more humane.

Honestly it isn't really okay to slaughter any animal healthy enough to carry out it's life. But that is just the opinion of me and others who put ourselves in the animal's shoes, i mean, thinking about it, i wouldn't want to be slaughtered

I understand how it feels to want to save them all. Every now and then I would take in a cat from the animal shelter and foster it until I found a home. Going in there to pick one... Just devastating to leave without them all. All meowing at you, begging you. The most depressing thing I think I'll ever experience... Knowing they will all be euthanized soon. :(

MissBoneshaker (speaking as someone who adopted a dog from a kill shelter) Shelters have a certain amount of room, and a certain amount of kennels they can put the animals in. If if animals start flooding in (for example my local shelter gets swamped with people dumping rabbits after easter) and they have _no room_. Some dogs may not even have a chance due to an illness they may have. I'm very against kill shelters, and I'm very glad we rescued my dog Archie when we did.

I wish it was ethical to run prisons the way we run animal shelters; kill them when there isn't enough room.

So happy she recovered and was able to feel better before delivering the foal.
