6:12..."When they say guerrillas do they mean gorillas?" is quite possibly the best thing I've ever heard on a KZread channel. I love that, even for an instant, you thought the crew of the helicopter might have been taken by a group of great apes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm glad they don't reveal too much about the Predator in this movie. They say less is more. The less you know about the Predator, the scarier he comes across. But this works twofold. The less we know about the Predator also reels us in. We want to know more. What makes the Predator tick! Perhaps this is why the Predator has such a fan base and why it is considered a cult classic! 🤔 -OG

Good point! I wonder if they didn’t show the predator as much because of the cost and complexity of the special effects at the time. Either way, it was the right choice. 😀

@Pop Culturally Challenged Well, part of it is introducing the Predator for the very first time. You build suspense and learn what it is at the same time they are. The other part is that they hadn't finished the final look of what this Predator would look like until the last minute. Much of the film was shot, and they still hadn't figured out what this creature would look like. The early draft was a lizard looking creature. When the costume was finally made available, they were like, What blank is this! And had to start from scratch late in the game. -OG

16:44 In the novelization to this movie we find out that Billy is from a family of Native American shaman. But he was never trained how to totally leverage these talents. He has been subconsciously using these skills to be a fantastic tracker. As such he is very in tune with our natural world. However, the Predator isn’t part of our natural world. So it’s presence causing like psychic ripples. Billy is being overwhelmed by what he is sensing from these ripples. There is a Predator sequel called Prey that came out in 2022 that takes place hundreds of years ago. It chronicles a Native tribe and their encounter with a Predator. The producer of Prey says that Billy is the reincarnation of one of the young warriors who fought and died in that movie. If so then Billy may also be experiencing memories from that past life.

@Pop Culturally Challeged - To be fair Toni or Tony, Arnold came out of retirement from the Mr. Olympia Competition, in 1980...won the Mr. Olympia Title in the same year, and officially retired again for good in 1980. And, Predator came out 7 years after when retired again from his Mr. Olympia Competition Days. Therefore, he lost quite a bit of muscle mass as well as his bulkiness. One last thing, the ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIE SEQUELS & SCI-FI ACTION FILMS OF ALL TIME is Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It's also the BEST Terminator Film of All Time, within the Franchise.

Fun Trivia: when Stan Winston was doing concept art for Predator, there was one occasion when he was on a plane with James Cameron (who he had worked together with on Aliens) and Cameron said to Winston "ya know I'd love to see an alien mouth with mandibles", and the rest is Predator History 🤔👍

David & Toni, great reviews! I have a suggestion for a movie, that both of you are sure to like. The 1989 film "Always" starring Richard Dreyfus, Holly Hunter, John Goodman, and Brad Johnson. David would like it, because it features firefighters, smoke jumpers, firefighting aircraft, and the "bro-banter" between Dreyfus' and Goodman's characters. Plus, it has what I consider to be one of the best opening scenes in a movie, ever! Toni would like it, because it is a love story, and Brad Johnson is deliciously easy on the eyes (Or, so I've heard, from female friends). It's a chick-flick disguised as a bro-movie. It's a Steven Spielberg film.

Arnold pretty much dominated the action movies of the 80s. It seemed like it was tough to find a good worthy foe for Arnold. He was always so much bigger 💪 than his opponents. You never really questioned if he'd win. Not so in this movie. You actually wondered if Arnold would make it out alive. I believe this goes in large part to the casting of the Predator. Hiring 7' 3" tall Kevin Peter Hall to play the Predator was definitely the right choice! 👌 He was perfect and made Arnold look small. Kevin Peter Hall also played Bigfoot in Harry and the Henderson's! A great family film. -OG

You should watch Predator 2. Especially if you wanna watch the prequel to the franchise, Prey. Predator 2 has a link to Prey. Predator 2 also links to Alien v Predator. And you should watch Predators. Predators was actually intended to be the original idea for a Predator 2, but they didn't have the budget for that back in 1990. Don't watch THE Predator. I would avoid that film at all costs. I believe most loyal Predator fans agree. It's a slap in the face to the franchise. It starts out okay. Then gets dumber and dumber. My opinion. But it's right.
