Ginger was an excellent girlfriend. She was bringing her man a sandwich and milk after they smashed. No wonder Matt stayed and tried to fight off the Terminator instead of running away and escaping

One of the best sci-fi horror dystopias ever made. Despite all its "weaknesses", it is perfect. I loved the T2 (I saw it the year it came out) but retrospectively I consider the '84 Terminator to be the best. Cameron's vision + an enthusiastic crew working on a small budget resulted a fantastic film. Its atmosphere, the dark, grainy visual world, the foreshadowing of the sinister future, the "there is no escape from the Terminator" feeling and the music are all unique to this day - yes, even the Arnold puppet. :) Scenes like Technoir are the pinnacle of this genre.

"I'll be back." I highly recommend watching the extended version of Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991) with the definitive ending. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that version and adds context that was originally taken out, anyone that says otherwise is pushing an agenda. Fun Fact: One afternoon during a break in filming, Arnold Schwarzenegger went into a restaurant in downtown L.A. to get some lunch and realized all too late that he was still in Terminator makeup - with a missing eye, exposed jawbone and burned flesh. Juice Dodged Fact: O.J. Simpson was considered for the Terminator, but the producers feared he was "too nice" to be taken seriously as a cold-blooded killer. Ironic. Director Cameo Fact: Near the beginning of the movie, when Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) receives a message on her answering machine breaking her date, the voice on the machine is James Cameron's.

Not quite. Cameron wrote Terminator with Henriksen in mind (they were friends), even had Henriksen dressed up AS the Terminator at the pitch meeting. But the studio didn't want Henriksen, they wanted to cast a bigger, more attractive name, with the lead contender being OJ Simpson. Schwarzenegger did go for the part of Reese, but Cameron was so impressed with Arnold's ideas on how the Terminator should be played, Cameron cast Arnold instead.

Terminator 2 was good, but not better then the original. The original was a low budget sleeper that came out of nowhere. Terminator was your rare Sci-Fi Horror movie. The rest in the franchise were commercial Sci-Fi. Nowhere near horror. Same with The Godfather. 2 was good but not better then the original. The only sequel I've seen that was better then the original was The Empire Strikes Back. It was way superior to A New Hope. Attack of The Clones was also better then The Phantom Menace and so was Revenge Of The Sith. But The Empire Strikes Back took Star Wars to the epic level

@@josephcasanova1975 yeah I don't believe T2 was leaps and bounds above either. I feel like they both had amazing action, the difference being the budget - how wide the shot could be or how many props they could blow up. Sure I was impressed the first, second, third time and so on, when watching T2. But after many times watching it maybe I got a bit desensitized to all the explosions and if you strip that away, cones down to your taste/opinion of what the terminator series should be: a thriller/horror or look at my effects + emotional, hopeful and more comedy movie. Since the majority prefers the second type of movie is why it's mostly considered better. In reality the base of T2 is another go at his original script for T1, which he couldn't do the first time because he didn't have the resources (Cameron said it himself). So if T1 is a product of circumstances I am thankful for those circumstances.

About Kyle roughly shoving the pipe bombs in the bag: I think Kyle was worried about Sarah causing a spark by hitting the pipe with the metal cap. From what I've read, plastic explosive, at least the real stuff, takes both heat and pressure to set it off. Supposedly, you can safely pound it, or burn it, but if you do both, it'll explode. I think if Sarah had caused a spark, while also hitting the explosive material, she might have accidentally set it off.

Breaking the cover off the steering column/ignition switch area would be pretty hard on most vehicles (for a human), but once that's done, bypassing the ignition switch by connecting two wires together is pretty easy. A lot of vehicles are stolen this way... especially in older cars I think. You can also start some vehicles by following the linkage rod from the key switch down to the floor, where it connects to another electrical switch which sends current to the starter to start the car. The hardest part would be getting to the switches, the rest is easy. Newer cars are often a lot harder to steal because more safeguards were put in place (hopefully). And NO, I've never stolen a vehicle lol--just worked on my own cars/vans most of my life. 😎😊

Michael Biehn appeared next in James Cameron's Aliens, then in James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day (director's cut & extended edition) and James Cameron's The Abyss. Schwarzenegger's previous roles, before The Terminator, were Hercules in New York, where producers tried to get him to change his last name and dubbed out his voice completely with someone else's, then several years later he appeared as himself in the bodybuilding documentary Pumping Iron, which helped land him the role as Conan after his friend Lou Ferrigno beat him out for the role of The Incredible Hulk. Yes, known for Conan, but The Terminator made him a star. A star who'll be back. As far as best sequels ever, T2 is better than the original, as most people agree The Empire Strikes Back is too, and some believe Top Gun: Maverick is, but I'd hasten to add Superman II, Star Trek II, IV, and VI, Prey, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Trek: First Contact, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Incredibles 2, and, believe it or not, Mannequin 2: On the Move, and though not better than their originals, I really love Rocky III, Rocky Balboa, Rambo III, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, and John Carpenter's Halloween II.

And allow me to correct some commentaries that said Arnold want to be the bad guy: in his autobio Totall Recall (yes like the movie lol) he said that in the reunion with Cameron he spent all the lunch how the actor that will play the Terminator should act, and James was so imppresed that he offer the part instead of Reese. Arnold was hesitating because he though that a bad guy role will damage his career because of his looks (much people say to him that he never be a famous star because of his accent and his body) at the end he took the part thinking ''well is a low budget movie I dont think it will make so much success'' and well the rest is history

Sorry not sorry for the length of this comment; I was writing it as I was watching. 😁 I am thoroughly and pleasantly amused that the Missus mentioned being tired at the start of it, then a half-hour in is literally on the edge of her seat. This is the kind of movie that I think exemplifies 'Seventies and 'Eighties movies; they weren't just dumb spectacles, or dumb bullet-fests, or dumb action-fests--they weren't _dumb._They often had multiple plot threads aside from the over-arcing one, so you got to really know who the characters were. They didn't have to exposit at you because you _see,_ say, the kind of man Kyle Reese was. Through his flashbacks, how he handles weapons, how he looks at and treats Sarah--you see who he is as a character. A lot of the popular 'Seventies and 'Eighties movies are similar; _Predator_ gave a lot of world-building before we go anywhere near the Predator, and even after they didn't let it be just a dumb monster. It was an individual, if one with goals and paradigms relatively inconceivable by humans. _Predator 2,_ _Alien,_ _Aliens,_ _First Blood,_ and so on--they were action movies, or sci-fi movies, but that isn't _all_ they were. That's why today's movies just don't resonate as much with people. This movie is a classic, as is _Terminator 2: Judgement Day._ The rest of the series goes off the rails, but it's saved by _Terminator: Dark Fate._ DF ignores everything else that came after T2; it just wipes all that off the board so it can serve as the perfect third movie in a trilogy started by T1 and T2. We get a complete believable arc for Sarah Connor, we see some things hinted at with the Terminator in T2, and all three fit together perfectly. It was made by genuine fans with Cameron's input. I really feel like missing DF is doing oneself a disservice. Like the Mister said, it's rare for any sequel to be as good as what came before, especially even better, but _Dark Fate_ is there. It truly completes the trilogy started by T1 and T2. We see hints of the bad-ass everyone talks about when they hold Sarah Connor up alongside Ripley from _Alien_ and _Aliens_, but in T2 you see her farther along that arc. _Dark Fate_ has the perfect continuation of that arc. Incidentally, a for hot-wiring cars, it actually was that easy. I say "was" because since around the 'Nineties, there have bee measures put in place specifically to stop that, and when cars became computers with wheels that became all but physically impossible, anyway. That said, it _was_ mildly more involved than just grabbing wires; you had to know which wires to grab and how to make them contact one another _before_ twisting them together, and with some models of cars, you couldn't turn the engine off again without going through the whole wire-messing-about to get it going again. Also, congrats to the Missus for calling the Terminator driving the car into the police station. No one else has called it that I've seen; I didn't, either, when I first saw it. Everyone knew he'd be back to bust stuff up, but no one else thought he'd bring the car to do it. As for not knowing who the bad guys are when the base is stormed--yeah, that's the very problem. They were designed to "fit in" with humans just long enough to get close enough to terminate them. As the Mister said, that's why they had the dogs at the entrance; dogs can smell a Terminator a mile away. They likely don't even have to be trained too hard to bark, either; I imagine the Terminators smell so _wrong_ to a dog that they'd almost have to be trained to _not_ bark. I find it amusing how quickly women tend to twig to Kyle being John's father. Not every woman does, and men do as well, but on average, I see that idea dawn on women much more than men. I don't know if it "means" anything, but it's an amusing observation. 🙂 As for looking fake, that's fair. Whle the era is relevant, as the Mister pointed out, it must also be remembered that Cameron had no real budget to speak of. He wasn't the big name he is now, so he had to get by with little more than duct tape and baling wire. Plus, there was some behind-the-scenes issues with the creation of the full-sized Terminator puppet (which was, incidentally, done by Stan Winston's team, who also did the Predator and the physical dinosaurs in _Jurassic Park),_ and that was needed to make the stop-motion puppet. So the stop-motion animation was started weeks later than it was scheduled to, which gave them less time to actually do it. That means less time to refine and re-shoot. T2 looks so good because the budget was much higher. As the Mister pointed out, because T1 did insanely well at the box office, as well as other works of Cameron's being well-received, the studio was happier to hand Cameron barrels of money for the sequel. Lastly, the photo--Kyle said he always wondered what she was thinking, because she looked a little sad, and it turned out she was thinking of him.

I enjoyed Dark Fate as well. It was cool to see Linda Hamilton back as Sarah again. Considering the budget and the time period T1 was made, they did a great job. While some of the effects definitely look dated, there are times that some of the practical effects are unbelievable. I often have to remind myself when comparing the movies that there was a 7 year gap and computer graphics made a big difference. The T1000 couldn't even have been done in 1984!

You pretty much gave your wife almost every spoiler regarding the sequel. You told her Sarah is no longer weak and has been training for years to become the legend Kyle talked about and is a bada$$, you told her John is a child in the next movie, you told her you get to see the dynamic between Sarah and John...The only thing you DIDN'T tell her was about the terminator twist in the sequel. I think you ruined most of the surprises by giving away so much.

7 or 8 years? she has a 13 year old son. it's been 14 years. meaning she was 15 in this movie (she's 29 in T2)

and I don't mean the actress was 29 (although i believe she was), they state Sarah is 29

I never understood the timeline for these movies. The doctor said she's 29 in part 2 but there's no way she was a teenager in the first one. That always confused me. I agree, they should have said she was 35. That would have fit a lot more. 👍

@Pop Culturally Challenged the other thing about the timelines is that it's not 1991 in t2. It's 1997. Iow, nothing more than months before the nukes fly

I don't think Toni has what it takes to be a legend. It requires kissing someone that hasn't brushed their teeth 🤣

I saw part 1 when it came out but Toni hasn't seen it. We're thinking of watching both for the channel at some point. 😃
