PRE ARRIVAL BYSTANDERS RESCUE MAN FULLY INVOLVED HOUSE FIRE Third Alarm Lakewood New Jersey 5/4/24
Ocean County - Lakewood - Third Alarm - 419 Joe Parker Rd.
Around 1:20 AM, May 4, 2024, Lakewood Police received a phone call for a reported structure fire at 419 Joe Parker Rd in Lakewood. The caller stated they saw flames and smoke and possibly someone was trapped in the garage. When Police arrived they saw two men cutting into the garage door with a saw and trying to gain entry. They were able to cut a good chunk and removed the door along with a makeshift wall that was put over the garage door. Police and bystanders were able to pull the victim out of the garage and hand him over to EMS who was on scene waiting. The conditions of the person are unknown to us at the time. Seconds later L-5 & E-5 arrived on the scene and started going to work. Engine 5 stretching hand lines to the structure. Along with L-5 getting ready to make entry. Other lines were then stretched off of E-1 when they arrived and got a secondary water source. Firefighters were inside the structure fighting the fire for about 30 minutes. Before knocking down all the flames. The fire finally went to a third alarm for more manpower to the scene since they had an extensive overhaul to perform. Fire companies from Brick Township, Point Pleasant Beach, Point Pleasant Boro, Howell, and Jackson Township. Crews operated on the scene till 6:30 AM. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Back seat driver here. That first hand line should have been charged immediately to start knocking down and cooling the fire. The driver can do this in a second and then worry about water supply. Hats off to all the people involved in the rescue. Hopefully the individual that pulled from the garage will pull through. You did a great job with the video. It also seemed to me that some of the people were family near the rescue.

My question was why they didn't hit the door with a deck gun and then run their first attack line in through the hole in the garage that was waiting for them when they arrived. The deck gun would have gotten the door under control and they could have been inside already through the garage. Usually (emphasize USUALLY) you attack the fire from inside to outside. Otherwise you can push the heat to unburnt parts of the house. The layout of the house, the structure, and building materials, even the yard layout can effect that, so there is no 'one size fits all'. This is also why sometimes it takes a few minutes to decide the best way to attack the fire. The fact that the garage had walls built against the doors meant that the layout of the house may have been altered from original and not standard or to fire standards. Which means caution is warranted.
Hard to say for sure but it sounds like the cops know what flashover is and they were trying to keep everyone back just in case that happened.

Lakewood is a cluster fuck of a department/city. You have the whole damn police department on scene, only 2 fire apparatus, and only 4 firefighters actually putting water on the fire. One area where they excel, however, is in EMS operations from I seen in the video. It's clear that there needs to be a reevaluation of their overall city operations.

People opening the garage door and the police more-ons are telling them to back up. I would tell the cops to go direct traffic or go to the donut shop for us. All they do is get in the way and hold a flashlight.
First things first, there was NO urgency when the FD arrived, they treated this fire as if it was a training exercise. Second point, unless the officer-in- charge told the first crew not to go in but to fight fire from the the front door, there was know reason why (unless there was massive obstruction to the crew), they did not work the line though the house to the back where the bulk of the fire was, they probably would have knocked down the bulk of the fire. Jobs like this, you have to be aggressive to save the property...........................this was once somebody's home. Respect to the neighbours for having the idea to use a reciprocating saw to to gain entry to the garage and save the occupant.
What's the crowd with a hose at the front door doing?
No bigger nuisance than a cop at a fire scene. Why chase away the guy with the sawsall then go ripping at the door with your hands?

Nice video of the grab in the beginning 👍
Charlie division!? Buhler? Buhler?
Roof ladder set up below a window? That’s not going to work well if an interior fire fighter needs to bail out
Took too long to get water. Over 2 minutes to get water on a single handline? Do better!
Man, so glad cops are hours away from where I live. Absolute jerkoffs toward citizen's.

They're doing their job. Scene security is on them - in addition if you have people crowding in it makes it hard to work on a victim.

@@slackjawedyokel1 Yes I know. Police got everyone except them away and when they opened it the officers pulled them away too. PD is better trained to do the work on entry but knew the guys using the tools were used to them so they let them continue.
Ah, yes. More people who don't listen to the police. LOL, "doesn't anyone have a fire extinguisher?" Yeah, that'll help.
Sorry about my comment but the fire fighting is slow super slow ?? glad that was not my house
This is puzzling to me. Fire was burning intensely in two seemingly distinct and unrelated locations...the outside of the front door and at the rear of the house. Do we know anything about the cause? Could this have been arson?? Also, was there not a back or side door to the garage that might have been easier to open than breaking into that roll-up front door??? As for someone asking for a fire extinguisher, isn't that a bit like someone below deck on RMS Titanic asking for a bucket after it hit that iceberg?

I read it was discarded smoking material gone wrong
I think they need five or six more police cars parked in the way, just to make things even more difficult for the fire department to do their job.

Haha
Surprised the firefighters in door didn't have a flashover from not venting house. this is worse than the video where fireman ran out of water. Talking about fireman not video
