Powermate PM9400E 7500 Running Watt Electric-Start Gasoline Powered Portable Generator, 50 ST/CSA

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I picked up the Powermate generator to primarily be used to power my house when the power goes out. We lost power for 8 days in single-digit weather during Texas SNOWVID 21. It was cold. The Powermate is an electric start and powers my tools and also worked to power my house. It is easy to assemble and puts out a lot of power. It powered my AC unit and my attic heater (gas with electric). The manual start is easy, but the battery-powered push-button is cool. I also figured out how to remove the ground wire in the generator so it would work with the house ground system. Watch the video for setup and usage. I didn't read through all the comments, but there seems to be some confusion between grounding and GFCI receptacles. Generator Staters are bonded to the frame so that static doesn't build up and in the event of a short that can trip the fuses or Breakers. Houses are typically grounded in one location but can be grounded in more than one location. If you wish to ground the generator then you can connect to where it is grounded at the frame and then connect it to a ground rod. It's not going to change much of anything if you decide to do that. Having an ungrounded generator is a mistake and can cause someone to get shocked. Gfci's need a ground reference in order to properly measure amperage. Gfci's should not be disconnected no matter what. If a GFCI is in a panel or receptacle, leave it there and leave it alone. It's there to protect you. In short, grounding a panel or generator is different than GFCI receptacles and Breakers.

WOW! Looks like it is a very good machine. I was particularly amazed by hoe still it is, does not bounce around at all. Does not sound too loud and it starts and responds really well. Now, does this run your entire home? Looks like it did. Another Fantastic job Pete. Great instructional video.

It is generator - loud. I will measure the decibels. But it doesn't shake. It can power any devices as long as they total less than 30 AMPs and 7500 watts except the double oven and the dryer as they need more than 30 AMPs.

I want to hook mine to my fuse box. So do I HAVE to unhook my ground wire on my generator? Can I just leave it?

Hi, I am not an electrician, so seek trusted advice. I consulted electrical, construction and engineering experts. My conclusion was that if a house has a GFCI, you can't also run a GFCI on the generator. The generator will trip. So since the house GFCI is not removable, use it. This means disabling the GFCI on the generator. However, when using the generator normally (i.e. not powering the house), you should have the GFCI jumper. For example with power saws, drills, etc. However, on a job site, again, they may have another way to do GFCI. I have two generators, a Honda and Powermate. I leave the jumper engaged in the case someone borrows my generator. I take the jumper off when I need to power the house. I have had to power the house twice in 2022/2021 due to freezes and loss of power in Texas. You may want to check out these two other videos and a note from Honda. Be safe! When trying to assemble this unit in the dark one night when the power was out, i skipped the automatic start and just did manual. How long does the unit need to run before it will be able to power something? I got it started and plugged in a desk fan and it would not work. Ideas?

The manual indicates that for push button the generator button needs to stop flashing and become a stead green when its ready to charge. The manual doesn't say manual charge is different. Wait for steady green. I will try to check this week.

So, I followed all the instructions, but my generator is not supplying power when running. I get it powered on, wait for green light, then plug in a work light, but its not turning on. Tried a few different appliances, nothing. What am I doing wrong?

From manual: Problem: engine running but AC output is not available Causes / Fix: 1. circuit breaker open / reset circuit breaker 2. poor connection or defective cord / check and repair 3. connected device is bad / connect a different device and try 4. fault in generator / contact MFR 5. GFCI receptacle is open (if equipped) / correct ground fault and preset reset on GFCI receptacle Hope this helps. Safety first!

It is a generator, and it is loud. Did you measure decibels? Let us know. Also, if you didn't put enough oil, it will be loud and possibly malfunction.

It is registered at 89db..this type of generator is for open fields or industrial. I was not aware that in some cities for a typical home generator is allowing 50-70 dc. The Oil is full. I'm going to return itand buy Powerhorse 7500w(55 db)
