    Sorry for commenting so much Jack, but when you said the trail taught you to live in the present, it reminded me of my devotional for the day: “When you project yourself into the future, rehearsing what you will do or say, you are seeking to be self sufficient - to be adequate without my help (God speaking). The alternative is to live fully in the present, depending on mMe (God) each moment, rejoicing in My abundant supply.” I think you got a sense of this on your 141 day adventure. This living each day discipline will enable you to enjoy life more and to face each day confidently. This is from the devotion “Jesus Calling”. Good lesson learned Jack.

    huge congrats Jack, yours was (& still is) my go-to fave PCT fix this year. Appreciate your eye for images, smooth pan-hand, & ontrail edit skills. Best decision to flip in such a challenging year (i would have felt very conflicted, but probs would have done similar). So cool that you snagged every mile (+then some!). Concerned that u shed so much weight (27lb??) !!- lucky u still have plenty of youthful resilience -u didn’t look o/weight to begin…. (I think i lost

    Honored you followed along friend. I’m glad you never had any PTD. I don’t think I will so much as just reminisce and fondly remember what was. To answer your questions: I wanted to start and be alone that quickly changed and I’m very thankful it did. I made lifelong friends and the journey was so much more fulfilling with a group of good people around me Weatherman is still chatting to this day legend has it lol and lastly I never felt rushed and when I did I made sure to stay present and slow down no regrets there

    Very interesting and well done Q&A session -- thank you so much for taking us along. All great wishes with the documentary. I'll be following anything you post re post-trail, next trail, boring city stuff. You do a great job and always a job well done. I look forward to backing into the first part of your hike, as I jumped in late, and thus meeting more of your various tramily people. Thanks again! Paulie

    Really nice video and reflection of your hike. It was great meeting you on trail around the Cali/Oregon border. I was also able to finally finish the trail this year up at Stevens Pass. Glad to see you finished as well and what better way to finish than in the Sierra. Been enjoying your videos btw. Cheers Marmalade

    Thank you so much for the journey! I first stepped foot on the AT at age 4, but my true love is the PCT. Your vlog along with others are much appreciated for planning trips, we plan on-trail zeros in advance at the most awesome places we see pointed out- every trip west is different! Anyhow, make notes now while things are fresh for a book someday, and go for a weekend campout in a few weeks to satisfy that feral side 😉 Stay wild man, I’ll be watching for you and Jackie on the AT with trail magic in Virginia. 💪

    Congratulations!! Question: where did you meet the walrus whose mustache you stole? 😉😁 Nah, real question: any trail abroad you would like to do? And, have you thought about the paradox of loving nature and hiking, but to do that you need a lot of gear made out of not-very-nature-friendly materials? Was that ever a topic among hikers on trail?

  • @HitTheTrailJack

    @HitTheTrailJack

    10 ай бұрын

    hahah never met the poor fellow. Yes, my dream international trail is the Shikoku 88 in Japan which I WILL do! So to your second question most gear companies are transitioning to making their things from recycled materials so it's definitely going in the right direction and I would say out of all people thru-hikers probably tend to have the best environmental footprint since they use the same 10 things over and over lol

    Congrats! Now plz cut the beard or trim it! Superstitions are not real! You made it because of your strong will, not cus u didn't shave ur beard!😂 memories last forever, so the trail will always be waiting for the next adventure! If you hike the AT be prepared for rain and lots of it! I would recommend starting in March or April. If you want to avoid the heat. Starting with snow in February is better. People who start in May still made it to katahdin before they closed the park in October. Maybe you want to try out a smaller trail to see what the AT will be like. I recommend the foothills trail or the Vermont long trail. Maybe use these as shakedown hikes. Good luck! HAPPY Trails! 🙂

    Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your adventure. I think the allure of the AT is the history. It's the oldest of the 3, a lot of cool & historic trail towns,the most crowded and the most physically demanding, in my opinion. My least favorite of the 3, but I grew up in the northeast so the terrain and scenery wasn't as different than where I had done many shorter hikes. And like you, I don't like hiking in the rain, the AT has a lot of rain. I'm looking forward to the documentary.

    As I said on IG you have been a huge inspiration to me to finally get on the trail. Good to hear the thermarest was good to you, how was the Zenbivi? I have been looking at getting one for a while. Also, just cause I have to ask, did you guys see anything weird while on the trail? Lights in the woods or sky? Any odd sounds? Looking forward to the documentary!

    greatest compliment I can receive! I love the Zenbivy mine was a 25 degree quilt and the hook system with the top sheet kept the drafts out on the chilly nights. We did see and hear some weird stuff.. more on that later

    Nice! I will have to pick up the system. Like I said I have been looking into it for a bit just never talked to anyone that used it for more than an over nighter. Definitely looking forward to hearing your stories for the strange! I live at the base of Mt St Helen's so I have incountered much of the unexplained that hides in our woods. I was hoping you guys encountered some stuff out there, you did however hike right through some of the most active woods in the country, especially Goat Rocks!
