Eric is my favorite KZreadr. I've found myself playing games using a lot of similar explanations to myself. "This just looks natural." and "I'm opening up the E file." and ends with the ever popular "Oh no my checkmate!" as my opponent wins.

Amazing watching Eric hold against stockfish in the middle game and find mate in the time scramble against a 1700. Very, very interesting🤔

"Everything should be under control now" 25 seconds left, check mate feels far away. Eric would make a good airforce pilot or heavy machinery operator.
Think that last guy was botting you? Throw the opening, offer draw, and then go up a pawn on you with unending good moves?

last guy was 100% cheating btw up untill move 38 (and the horrible opening obv.)

That does seem to be a pretty common tactic with players who aren't playing honestly. They start out with dubious openings, and then play top moves most of the time. I'm no Vladimir Kramnik, but it's also pretty suspicious when someone takes a forty five second break after move three or whatever.

Eric this series has helped me improve an insane amount. Thank you for the great content!
Congratulations to Eric to holding on while facing all these top moves in the middle game against GreekPatriotsFan... nxa5, dc, nc3, a4, castles kingside, qd3 ,b3, e4, qd2, ba3, rc8, qxa5, bxc5, qd2 (first top move when evaluating), nxd6, b4, kg2 (first top move when evaluating), c5, a1 (first top move when evaluating), a6 (first top move when evaluating), h3 (first top move when evaluating).... Also, here are 3 critical top moves from GreekPatriotsFan in the early middle game: f3, nc3, ne2. Congratulations to GreekPatriotsFan for finally getting the EVAL down to 0 against a 1676! Unfortunately, time scrambles are tough. Stunning game!

I created a chess club/program for youth at my local library back in 2012. We just got started up again in April 2023 after a hiatus for a couple years. So I've been using the first 30 or so games in this series for some beginner instruction. It's sometimes just helpful for beginners to see a pretty simple game played solidly from beginning to end. They are pretty happy whenever I bring up a Rosen speed run game. I also share with them some of the anecdotes that Eric gives about his rating and his play at their age. It gives them the understanding that they can learn and become good at a game they enjoy playing.
Watching this series and listening to your thought process has helped me a lot. I feel like I have a better framework for making better long term decisions on the board in any given opening.
That last game was one of the best of the speedrun. I honestly thought he was trolling you at first, but that turned into a real blood match. I continue to be amazed at how calm you stay with less than 20 seconds. When I get down to a minute I start panicking and blunder my pieces. Well played.
Just perfect. Thanks from Slovenia.
Nice to see some chess from not the highest level. Can relate to these plays.

wow. The game with the patriots fan was great.

12:18 "Not a configuration you see every day" indeed 👀
That first game was both inspiring and totally discouraging. White played a game I would aspire to and still just got steamrolled.
the last game was the best
I love you Eric
The last guy could have recognized you and wanted to draw because he was scared, idk if it's true, but it is possible.
Great games as always. I'm so curious why the third opponent offered a draw!

Eric mentioned that in a future speedrun he might do more attacking and even dubious openings, like Stafford. So remind him when his next speedrun is.
last game was tough nut to crack
I'm inclined to believe the last opponent was cheating, mostly because his name is "Patriots fan"
This episode of 52 minutes felt like 5
In the first game, can you explain why you didn't play Qe5 before trading the bishop for knight? It would give pressure towards the pawn and you can always trade the knight for bishop later. Just seemed surprising since you just said you wanted to hold onto the bishop pair.
Do Jobova London one speed run episode!!
Midnight Rosen!
Nice
There was something fishy about that last game. I can't put my finger on it.
Creepy crawly knight!
"I want to keep the bishop pair long term". Then proceeds to trade off both bishops for opponents' knights 😅 Strategy changes quickly in the game of chess it seems
I love positional games like the first game you played Eric 👍🏻 nice work!
Slowly, slowly, the temperature is rising.

Eric Rosen and my rapid elo is racing with each other
thank goodness it doesn't take 134 straight wins without a loss to reach 1600 IRL
Last game, is there king h3 to win h4 pawn? Can h4 be defended?
@Worldsportstalk24
15 күн бұрын
I saw that too, but I think Eric liked the idea of opening the file for his rook and then bringing his queen over and attacking
at 1:43, cant black go Nxe5, Qd4, Nd3? and then white cant take on e4 or f2. what am i missing
And as I gazed upon his latest KZread upload, I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita…‘I am become IM Rosen, the destroyer of sleep.’
7:45 what’s wrong with NxF3 here? am i missing something?
It least the king charged and died an honorable death in the first game.
Apologies for spamming but it would be cool to consider changing the settings in searching for a game - possibly Leo of +- 50 or even 25?
so the takeaway from the last game is that the opening doesn't matter
Another episode already? It must be the “speedrun video uploading” speedrun.
2:55 how is the king pinned?
@whitecrayon3281
17 күн бұрын
In the earlier sequence, at around 2:35, he has 2 attackers on the center pawn (knight and queen) and only one defender (opponent's knight). 2 attackers vs 1 defender would normally mean you can take safely, but after everything the queen would be on the same file as his King, so when the rook moves to the file, the queen is pinned to the king. Moving the queen puts the king in check, and can't take the rook as it's guarded by the opponents queen.
@jetsyrup481

@@whitecrayon3281Thanks, I missed him say "from the previous position."

There was a video I saw the other day about a guy who created thirty different bots with different priorities. He then had them play a tournament against each other. One of the bots was programmed so it would avoid all captures unless totally necessary. It was like pacifist chess.
49:25 Taking a draw on the second move is about as boring as riding the eagles to Mordor.
@andrewzmorris
17 күн бұрын
Riding eagles to Mordor would have been incredibly exciting for a brief period whilst the Eagles murdered the hobbits and took the Ring for themselves...
So you finally encountered a cheater. (Last opponent)
134 game winstreak? very suspicious!!
25:25 A knight on the outpost does not necessarily have to have the support of a pawn. it is true that it must not be attacked by opponents pawns or other minor pieces.

how to dislike that dude
it looks simple. I Simply lose
Why are my comments disappearing?
Love the series and love Lichess. One thing that i find odd is that even though it is very obvious by your winrate/winstreak that you are playing opponents that are below your rating, Lichess isn´t giving you progressive more difficult opponents to get you to your actual rating.
