first game was just a player that may know opening principles but has 0 idea on why they are the way they are and definitly never looked into any form of opening lines.
@dsrguru
15 күн бұрын
@@mauer1I think it's more a case of them not knowing opening principles. One of the basic principles is that you can't let your opponent take the whole center unless you have a way to make it a target a la the Grunfeld or King's Indian. Even if they had never seen something like the Ponziani or the Alapin, a principled player would know they need to put pressure on e4 to prevent d4.

@@dsrguru i mean they definitly didnt play by principles but that doesnt necessarly mean they dont know them.
The amazing thing about the last game is how Eric is able to keep calm under a very stressful situation. Think about it from Eric's point of view. He is an international master, playing a 1700 rated player, and he is on 130+ unbeaten run playing with black down on time and realizing he is cooked. Talk about fear of embarrassment losing to a less rated player, or the fear of ending a winning streak, or the mental block that comes to us when we realize there is not enough time left in the game and we are way behind on the clock. Yet, he was calm throughout the last 90 seconds and able to focus and play all the right moves and win. Great lesson of controlling emotions and keeping your focus and of course a great lesson of never giving up.
@Puschit1

Yeah but Eric is ALWAYS calm! Even when he finds a way to sacrifice his queen for the win he barely smiles. Of course he might be cooking underneath, who knows. What I am trying to say: I have never seen Eric Rosen being not calm. That's not just his default state, he probably is incapable of being angry, frustrated or nervous :)

What I learn most from Eric isn't even the chess itself, it's the "how to think" and how to control your emotions and stay objective during the game. The way he explains the thought process is so logical, and so patient (so different to my play!) that I'm learning a great deal on how to "re-program" my thinking during a chess game. Thank you so much @EricRosen !

Found that tactic in the first game really fascinating as when I'd be sacking a Knight for a pawn like that its usually with a follow up with taking the pawn with the Bishop. Always great to see new patterns.
This is better than Christmas, 3 speed run videos in 10 days... AMAZING!!

Seriously. I love Eric. Levy's greatest gift to me was introducing me to Eric Rosen.
"Everythings under control now" 12 seconds left. That was awesome! Most heart pounding game yet. I really thought you were a goner. Then when opponent got low on time they started making mistakes. Down to 5 seconds! Yeah could have went for the bishop takes knight and doubled the pawns sooner. Seemed like would have been a damaging move.
These are my favorite videos!
I literally cannot keep up with the speed of uploads, which is a good thing! keep em coming
I'm loving these more regular uploads. What a treat!
I love this series so much you have no idea. Listening to your thinking while you are playing teaches me a lot. I'm always waiting for the next one. I'm even suggesting you do a second run after this one!
Thanks for the frequent upload Eric. This is my favorite series on YT atm
The way you are able to still perform under pressure while explaining your thought process is really impressive. Great stuff.
3 episodes in a row! Thank you! 🔥
Really enjoying the frequent uploads, thank you so much!! This series is greatly helping me improve my chess as I rewatch the videos and learn new things. After c3 I was thinking of taking on g4 and trading rooks and then bishop takes a2... Probably not that good though since it wasn't considered, I guess because it would give white the open file.
My heart was racing for you in that second game. Thought your run was coming to an end. Well well handled. I learnt a lot from that game! Thank you.
The videos were helpful for my chess games thanks!😊
Really enjoying these. Thank you

Thanks Eric!
This was the best yet!
Thank you Eric, always an enjoyable class and learning something....:))
I need moooore Love ur vids eric, always cool and fun
I love these speed runs. Learn a lot and sometimes amazed how you see many moves ahead. What I would like even more would be new series of speed runs with specific openings. For example speed run to 1500 only using an opening like "The Italian Opening", of course not all games would permit this, but this way we can see how to handle different variations for a specific opening.
Close call. Thanks Eric!
This is my favorite chess series on KZread

My heart was racing for you there Eric 😂
3 episodes in 1 week... I'm beginning to feel spoiled. And that second game... Damn!
first game had such a nice tactic
The last game was great!
Watching game 2 unfold was the most stressful then most relieving I felt in a while
Second day in a row falling asleep to this video :)
Oh no, my king! That was close.
great video, can't wait you reach 1900
Love these videos! I play ponziani as white.. currently 1718 rapid. Unfortunately my opponents never play what black did in game 1 😂
Show No Mercy by Slayer could/should be your new theme song 😃 you seem like a big metal head at heart.
Would be good to add search parameters for future episodes to keep the opponents more consistent over the series - possibly +- 50
I can relate to your opponent here. Having the better position, having the time advantage, and still not managing to win. 😅
shocked that a 1700 knight takes e5 in the Spanish
15:49 that scene is so mesmerizing 😅
Who else is here for the relaxing, dulcet tones of IM Eric Rosen after a hard day of work?
I was randomly watching some 5 year old belgrade gambit vid on this channel yesterday...and it's shockingly similar to this first game.
So, in the first game when Eric said Black would lose the queen or suffer checkmate in the next move, I spotted f5. It doesn't lose the queen right away and gives the king an escape square. But Stockfish calls it +15 for White, much worse than its recommended plays: Qxg2 or Nc3, both of which lose the queen and are +8 to +9. Pretty hopeless position for Black.
speedrun is the top dog content
Thank you for leaving it at 2 games.. I need a break 😅
last game was nuts
Close second game, I'd like to see better time management at 1700+ but kudos for surviving that Eric, love the series, best of luck in future games👍🏻❤
Engine hated the bishop dropping back at 1730. Went from -0.8 to +1.4. it thought stepping the b pawn up was right.
how do you visualize the tactics so easily?😭 at 4:20 i would’ve just moved the bishop back, instead there was a way to checkmate…very impressive
Wow the first one 😂
At what rating in the speedrun should you start playing *The Stafford Gambit?*
pretty soon... eric will hafta put the heart rate monitor on.... :D :D Cheers!!!!
I almost accidentally watched the video without hitting the like button first!
I cant wait for you to get to the 1900s

What a good Danish player :)
It would've been nice if you included what the engine thought you should've been doing in game 2. Not sure if you were just supposed to trade off the bishops instead of dropping the light-squared bishop back?
Is the rook at e5 "trapped" I mean... Has to move back from the 5th rank and from protecting the bishop ? It could have been moved back pushing the f and c pawns... Right ? Then opponent takes your bishop. At 26:20
what rating do you think you'll get your first loss or draw to?
Man around 13 minutes both horsies being pinned like that is NASTY. Such good squares but completely taken out by the fact that they're BOTH pinned to the king. Always these toxic kings sandbagging. Edit: OKAY wtf was that game. Crazy how things can change so quickly and so often. That was probably the most impressive game in the speedrun so far, for me at least.
That was a nail biter.
When I was 10 or 11 my main opening was Scholar's Mate, as black.
18:38 white can still go f4 and win the exchange
At which elo did you feel a significant difference in the strength of your opponents?
I think it was even too many improving moves that time.
Pfoeii, I almost unsubscribed along the midgame in game 2. Close call there mate.
Maybe it is time to switch to some new openings? I am curious to see d4 or Sicilian with Eric's explanations.
last game: I thought best move to address that d6 knight threat is rook d4, what am I missing?
That was an interesting game by nielsfish
tightrope
Levy for the drama. Eric for the sheer chess quality, explanations and composure. Both amazing and completely different.
7:50 I think pawn h7 to h5 was a mistake.. opponent is more developed than you, he only has 1 bishop undeveloped while you have a knight and a bishop undeveloped. 2- also at this point opponent already has a 2min advantage on the clock.. and given that you exchanged queens the game will be slower. If you don t manage your time better I feel you will lose the winning streak to a 1700 player which would be ashame. But great play nevertheless!
I'm morbidly curious to see what elo you receive your first real loss of the series.
