Portulacaria Show Prep - Bonsai stands, Accessory plants & Pruning!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this episode, it's all about show prep work for my little Portulacaria Afra bonsai (trees in training section 😊). Vince and I head to Tropical Expressions to look at stands and accessory plants, then it's back home for the reveal. Some detailed pruning on the portulacaria is also in order after potting up a couple of the plants as well (plants are definitely NOT my area of expertise) 🤣

Well done Jay. It's really nice to see videos of enthusiasts all over the world preparing their trees and displays for upcoming shows. Everyone's enjoying themselves immensely and coming up with some fantastic looking entries. Thanks for sharing your display preparation with us all. Best of luck in the upcoming show and more importantly - Have a great time and enjoy the day(s) with your fellow bonsaists. 👍👍

I like those stands. They have a really nice pattern on them. I think the Lithop will work the best for the Portulacaria Afra, because the Port have that top soil decorative gravel and the Lithop is basically just a large version of that 😁

I think the "palm tree" would look good in the blue pot with a beach sand color topping on the soil. In my mind it would look like an island in the middle of the ocean. I know Nigel has done similar work with sand on some of his African style trees and they looked amazing. Thanks for the video!

Hiya Jay, whata fun shop thanx for taking us along, sooo many stands but to my eye your slab of wood beats them all n shows the PA n pot off to perfection. Delicate and restrained pruning n wiring Jay, show prep sure focuses the mind! I’d like to see d Lithops in the other little brown pot, just a hint of a curve to it, harmonising with the whole. Have fun and God bless you 🙏✝️ ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️

Wow, not only a good assortment of pots and trees, but also bonsai stands! I have not seen any stands whatsoever for sale in Sweden. I need to build my own. So envy your local stores. Nice selection and really good prices. I am sorry to tell you, the red Selaginella looks dead or dieing. They need very high humidity and dies very fast away from it. Do not put it to show. Great little Portulacaria and well done on pruning. Your wiring is right up at my level :). I would not put moss on a PA, would look quite unnatural to me. Good luck in the show! Looking forward to see the final display.

美しいミニ盆栽ですね😍👍
Clean your Crotches!! Neat, tidy, well trimmed crotches not only look better! It allows for better air circulation, preventing insect infestations!! 😋 I love that port pot on that wood slab! If it wobbles, get some clay or play dough from the dollar store, make small balls and squish the slab down onto them so they aren't visible. Lay some wax paper down under so they only sticks to the slab. Cut the wax paper around the clay so it keeps covered and won't leave marks on the tablecloth at the show. Hopefully that makes sense... LOL FREE PLANT PILE??!! WhaaAAAaaaAAAaaaTT?!!!!! Bromiliad has a flower... Keep the center of the leaves full of water. Water the roots a bit, but fill the leaves in the middle. Really nice plant. Propagate by the pups they grow.

I LOVE that pot the little PA is in!!! ❤❤Why didn’t you bring the PA on the field trip! I think the decorative stand actually looks a bit small with how deep the pot is.
