Portugal's Most Iconic Sandwich Is Smothered In Cheese And Sauce | Legendary Eats
The Francesinha was invented in the 1950s at a Porto restaurant called A Regaleira, when a French customer asked for a croque monsieur. This indulgent sandwich now has many variations, but they all include a stack of ham, steak, sausage, and cheese, covered in a tangy tomato sauce. We visited Cafe Santiago, who makes Francesinhas beloved by locals and tourists alike, to see how the iconic sandwich is made.

Meu Deus!! Como vivo no Brasil, vou ter que fazer em casa!!! 😍😍😍
This reminds me a little of something I had in Kentucky once called a “Hot Brown,” which is a basically a open turkey sandwich covered in Mornay sauce with bacon on top. It’s also something meant to be eaten with utensils.
Why am I watching this at 3:44 AM? Now I'm damn hungry.
Speaking as a local, Santiago is definetly NOT the locals' favorite to eat a francesinha. If you ask most people in the city they will name a lot of different places, and Santiago is hardly ever mentioned. That restaurant has become mostly directed to serving tourists, but any person who has only ever eaten a francesinha from Santiago hasn't really tasted a true francesinha. a little side note: they mention that they took out the spiciness of the sauce which is basically killing the dish; a good francesinha has to have a little bit of spice in it, otherwise might as well be simply called a wet sandwich

Imagine saying things like "it's the best little French lady in town" "man, I ate this little French lady" "this little French lady is hot and juicy" in your language.

@shadez123

It's not actually transalted as "little french lady". The "little french" would be more accurate. The "lady" part comes from the fact that all of our nouns are gendered, and this one is gendered female. Yes "french lady" is also a translation of "francesinha" but that's not realky the logic they were using. It's hard to explain unless you're familiar with the language
