Do you own the bench-top or a floor standing model bandsaw?

Yes. I own 4 bandsaws, including a home made Gilbilt (there's some history for you, look it up). That is my 18", I own this very Porter Cable and love it, a Delta 9" that I do NOT like much at all, and a Harbor Freight metal bandsaw, which is KILLER. On the PC, I would suggest getting the riser block. I got mine shortly after I got the saw, and it was $80 or so, I understand it's up to $100 or so now. Still worth it. It increases your resaw height to 12". If you don't need it, that's fine, but I build instruments, and you frequently need to resaw wood for backs and those can get fairly big. That 12" is needed. Great saw for the money, the one I was considering was the Grizzly "ultimate", but once you add in shipping, this one becomes a better deal being able to go pick it up and drive home with it. Upgrade the guide blocks to some cool blocks (cheap and easier on your blades) it gets even quieter. DEFINITELY get some new blades. But I'm sure you've done that by now. It's a great saw, I hope you're still having fun with it.

I have owned and used this saw for about 5 years, now. It has been flawless. I would make a few suggestions to improve it's usability. 1) Get a riser block from PC. It's not that much money, it goes in easily, and it increases your resaw height to 12". A worthy investment. 2) Get some cool blocks for the guides. They are cheap and will help quiet this saw even more, as well as give a slightly better feel than the metal ones included with the saw. 3) DEFINITELY get a new blade. Get several, with different TPIs and widths for different uses. A thinner blade for curve cutting, a medium width blade for all around use, and a 1/2" woodslicer for resawing. Seriously, that blade is the best you can get for resawing without spending more than 3 times as much for a carbide blade. 4) If you want, put some urethane tiers on it. I haven't felt the need, myself, but I hear it helps make things even smoother. 5) If you want to spend the money, you can get some upgrade guides, but again, I haven't felt the need to do this. This is a great saw, and with just a few additions, it is just killer. If you don't need the 12" don't do the riser block, it won't help you in much of any other way. But if you were considering this saw and don't want to spend a ton of money, I do suggest it. I'm not an all day, every day wood worker, but when I need it it doesn't let me down.

Hi Will, how much do you estimate it will cost to get the riser for "12 resaw capacity?

@@adamthewoodworker2571 Hey there, If I remember correctly, it was about $80 for the kit. That is the block, a new nut and bolt and an appropriately sized blade. The blade is passable, but get a Timber wolf or better yet, a Wood slicer for resawing. The Wood Slicer is highly recommended, but if you have the $$, get a carbide tip one from Laguna. You will most likely never need another one. They are pricey, but my understanding is that they are outstanding in both cut finish and longevity. Have fun!

Nice review and thanks for putting this together. Just subscribed. Have you made any bandsaw boxes with this saw? I've been looking for a bandsaw to make boxes and small crafts. Seems great for the money and comes with that 1.5 HP motor.

Appreciate the honest review. Trying to decide what I want is difficult as anything from HF the reviews are sketchy-cultish even. Holy smokes they’re going to be looking for me now. Do you think my family might be in danger? May have to change my name and take a bus to the Mexico border, then double back and fly into Canada. Oh man, not sure what to do now.

Why? They won't get cheaper unless you luck out on a sale. It's a great saw, I've owned and run one for about 5 years, now. I'd get another one if I had to. It's a great piece of machinery. I own 4 bandsaws, this is the one I use.

@@MrThidj901 Cool. As long as it's doing the job for you, that's the thing that matters. Nothing quite like having a machine that does what you are asking of it. I love the bandsaw, it's one of the most versatile saws around.
