    When auto manufacturers poll their focus groups, they don't list specific technologies. They ask if their buyers think "technology" is important. When focus groups inevitably say "I love technology," they're thinking of parallel park assist and radar cruise. German engineers, however, seem to think they mean "I love touch-enabled air vents"

  • @derbigpr500

    @derbigpr500

    I'm pretty sure no engineer with any importance in Porsche cares or ever thought about that air vent. It's a totally irrelevant aspect.

  • @MyOldNameWasTaken

    @MyOldNameWasTaken

    @@derbigpr500 i think you are mistaken. That normally irrelevent turned "necessary" feature is now a big profit for the automaker once it stops working properly. Power heated and cooled moving seats? Power tilt and telescoping steering wheels? Radar enabled cruise control and lane assist/ safety braking? Lots of these things that would normally be manual/ not included in a car are now included not just to add a higher price tag (and more things to profit off of once the vehicle is sold) but also a big source of income in parts for the manufacturer and labor for the dealerships. Once one of these things fail, they don't just stop working. You get a CONSTANT nagging every single time you start the vehicle at best and at worst they start affecting other systems and disable normal operation of the vehicle. The engineers aren't adding these features because you think they are out of touch. They are adding features for profit. Everything is thought of in these products, especially in the more premium vehicles. I feel like the average car enthusiast underestimates how far a car maker will go to increase revenue.

    I have the Turbo S e-hybrid version of the Panamera, and I can say that it's a fantastic family car. Little kids can get in and out of the rear seats easily on their own. No giant SUV ride height to deal with. There's tons of cargo room in the rear for trips to Costco, Home Depot, etc. The PHEV aspect of it makes it great for quick trips in town for the school drop-off/pick-up, then to soccer practice, then to the birthday party, etc. When you're taking all those short trips, the EV part really shines! Yes, the cracked rotor PCCB brakes are nuts. So is the PVT Plus, 4 wheel steering, PASM, etc. It's all over the top, but it JUST WORKS when you use it all. Or just turn it all off and slam your right foot down to the floor and act like a hoon. Just don't be late picking up the kids.

    The digital vent control wins the award of the dumbest idea in the automotive IT tech to date. It's not like that digital control saves you any space because you still have a physical vent with physical blades (or whatever they're called). The only thing it does is make it harder to adjust the vent because the physical blades don't move in real time, and the digital representation seems to a bit laggy, so I'd imagine it may take more than one attempt to set the vent to the right position sometimes. It doesn't SOLVE any problems (no space saved, no improvement in the easy of adjustment). Are people who design this kind of crap into cars total morons, or do they think buyers are? Boy these gimmicks are going to age well.

    11:22 The basis of this "cooperative chassis" was developed all the way back in 2004 for Toyota and Lexus vehicles. VDIM (vehicle-dynamics integrated management) integrated steering, drive-by-wire braking and throttle, and stability control into a single unit. The system could effectively predict loss of control (such as skids, wheel lockup, and wheelspin) before they occurred, therefore improving driving comfort, vehicle handling, and smoothness.

    I drive this a lot on the German autobahn and it is a great car. It is very fast, it is possible to have a phone call at 150 miles/hour, you reach your destination fully relaxed and you look forward to the next trip. Besides that it is fun on back roads and very nimble in city traffic due to the all wheel steering.

    Wonderfully produced video. Just found this video and would like to comment from an owner of a 2018 4E hybrid sedan and about to take delivery on a 2022 4SE hybrid sport Turismo. I agree the cars are expensive, yes we can afford one but, my wife and I are environmentally conscious. She drives a Volvo XC 90 hybrid. We live in central Minnesota where it routinely gets to -20F in the winter and an all electric vehicle just isn’t practical. Both range issues and lack of charging infrastructure. I looked at a 4S Taycan seriously but, realized for many months of the year I wouldn’t be able to drive to Minneapolis and back without charging during the trip. This car allows me to get over a 1000 miles on a tank of gas during warmer months ( I live 5 miles from work) and can go days without the engine coming on but, can do launch control when the itch gets me. The ride, luxury features, etc are added benefits and this is about the only vehicle out there which checked all the boxes. I learned a lot from your video, especially when you two were under the car discussing technical features. I’m a new subscriber to the Chanel now. Thanks again Phil P. Little Falls,Mn

    Or you could get a 1.5-2 year old Turbo S e-hybrid on CPO for the same price as a new 4S e-hybrid. Way more car where every $6k option is standard. No waiting 9 months for a build either. That's what I did, and I love it.

  • @SS-22

    @SS-22

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@diqster I don’t blame anyone for doing that. But there are benefits to getting a brand new 4S E-Hybrid, which is nearly identical in terms of speed/performance to the Turbo S E-Hybrid. You can go crazy on the options for a new 4S E-Hybrid and land at about $150k, the benefit other than obviously a brand new car is the updated features that come with 971.2 and for ‘22 the new PCM 6. That’s what I did, ordered in Summer and waiting another month or so for delivery.

    @@SS-22 The 4SEH I specced landed at $165k. I just put the basic stuff you'd expect to find in a $150k car and skipped the crazy aesthetic accoutrements. • @SS-22

    @SS-22

    @@diqster Thanks, and I hope you’re enjoying your Panamera too. I got the following options and don’t think they’re just basic stuff: chalk special color, black/red full leather interior with Porsche crest on headrests, 21” sport design wheels, Porsche innodrive/adaptive cruise with traffic jam assist, head up display, surround view cameras, 14-way massage/ventilated/heated seats, GT sport steering wheel with heating, rear axle steering, power steering plus, PDLS headlights, ambient plus interior lighting, rear screen with 4-zone climate control, Bose sound system, gloss black exterior accents and exclusive design taillights, and 7.2kw onboard charger, with PDCC/PTV+/sport exhaust system-just over $150k. The 4S E-Hybrid comes with some sweet standard features too like PASM, Sport Chrono package, etc. To me, that has all the bells and whistles. Of course, you can keep adding options as your heart desires and go over $200k even on the 4S E-Hybrid…. When I considered CPO TS E-H, yes they had standard features like PDCC/PTV and PCCB brakes, etc. but they lacked a lot of comfort features like massage seats, Porsche innodrive, head up display, etc. To me, paying for a used heavier TS-EH with V8 just to go 0.1 or 0.2 seconds faster didn’t make sense. I have a V8 BMW F10 now… V8 is cool but overrated honestly. Classic Porsches are V6 anyways.

  • @diqster

    @diqster

    @@SS-22 My TSEH was CPO (5 year warranty, unlimited miles) and has massage heat cooled seats F+R, night vision, innodrive ACC, 7.2kw, burmester, etc. It's loaded and was less than your spec. Also the V8 isn't a big difference in 0-60 that's sure but how often are you doing that? It's a monster compared with the V6 in highway driving. There's no comparison once you hit the kill button and go.
