Porsche GT4 RS Chases A McLaren 620R - Two Street Legal GT4 race cars on Track

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hey everyone welcome back to It's Track Time!
In this particular session I found myself behind a McLaren 620R. The 620 R is essentially a race car for the road. It retains the DNA of McLaren's 570s GT4 without the restrictions of race regulations.
Street legal GT4 race car vs Street Legal GT4 race car.
Thanks for watching :)

That’s my buddy. He literally just picked up the car about a week or two before the track weekend. He drives a 991 GT3 and was not planning on tracking the McLaren yet except he had a mechanical failure with the Porsche. He was probably driving it at about 7/10th just because he was getting used to the car.

Cool, those are fast cars. The first time I drove one I was trying to be safe, no risk, and still turned a 2:22 at COTA.

Great driving, smooth hands. 160 MPH at the end of the straight away is pretty fast. I generally do 156 MPH

Thanks! Back straight speed is affected by so many variables - air temperature., wind speed, wind direction, how cleanly you exit turn 11, etc.

Like your vids dude. I'm totally Porsche bias. I just love to flog the knackers off a Porsche GT engine any chance I get. I almost wanna see if I can break it within it's design parameters if you know what I mean :)

Nope, my car has iron brakes. PCCBs are too expense to run at the track so pretty much everyone out there is on iron brakes.

I took off the PCCB's on my 991 3RS and used equivalent sized Girodisc rotors. Honestly, I liked the feel of the iron rotors better and the stopping power was immense. I really flogged my brakes very hard and never had any fade issues even when some of my mates were leaving the track in their GT Porsches with factory iron rotors because of fade. A massive chunk of cast iron is great for heat absorption and redistribution. That heat from hard stopping has gotta go somewhere :)

@@ziggyfreud5357 - I found the same thing. I'm running Girodiscs and those plus the added cooling on the RS cars works very well. Immense stopping power and no fade.

@@philippetouchette2325 Interesting, I was thinking the driver may have been pumping the brake pedal to get rid of pad knockback, I've had to do that with a few cars, but given he didn't seem to be driving the car that close to the limit, your explanation makes more sense.

I own a 620R and a GT3RS and you nailed it, the 620 just cant hang due to those skinny tires. I'm shocked how much longer you can keep the throttle open on an RS.

7500 vs 9000 rpm redline gives the Porsche GT engines a lot longer legs.

To a degree for sure, though mclaren pairs that with longer gears. Either way the 620 just doesn't have the lateral grip a Porsche GT does, it's immediately noticeable. The 620 in your video has a pretty crappy line but you can see how easily you keep up with him in the turns

Can’t disagree with the view the Porsche provides more mechanical grip, mainly down to wider and probably stickier rubber, However I have owned both, in fact still got the GT4RS , but my 620R demolished it at Silverstone by over 6 seconds a lap on the GP circuit. So can’t agree that the Porsche is quicker on track. Easier to drive at the limit and more predictable but it topped out at 150mph down Hanger, while the Mac hit 170

  • @ItsTrackTime

Impressive top speed for the 620R. I'm surprised the 4RS couldn't top 160 in the same distance.

@@ItsTrackTime The Mac was able to generate a higher speed onto the straight and although the aero on both hold them back into Stowe the RS gained, and was then faster through Vale & Club. Different tyres though and do make a huge difference The Mac is just much more powerful Don’t have the 620R now, however have a 765LT which has the same overall limitation of lack of front axle mechanical grip. Probably the biggest difference in handling term’s between Mac and Porsche
