Porsche 915 Transmission Pinion Shaft Rebuild
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In the last episode, we covered the input shaft, now we cover the pinion shaft. The pinion shaft connects to the ring gear on the differential. We change all of the synchro bands and check the dog teeth. We also change out the bearings and bearing races.

In our next lesson, we cover the differential. It has to come in and out of the case a few times to do all of the required measurements.

Jk, Greetings from SoCal. Having never been to Australia, it is wild how many YT channels I come across where the peeps are from Adelaide. 👍. Must be a pretty nice place to live. Cheers, Matt.
If the spheres of my bearing drop off it means I need to change it? 13:19 Thank you, your videos are so much helpful

If the bearing is falling apart other than the inner race then yes it is time to replace it. Kurt
Hi, I may have missed, what was mileage on this gearbox? How was it used, street vs racing? Did transmission design engineers win the Pulitzer prize? 😂, amazing stuff. Great video series.

Have no idea on the mileage, no ideas on previous use, I doubt that the design engineers won any awards, just a transaxle. Thanks Kurt
Why is putting oil on the parts during reassembly not a good idea?

So I do explain this in the video. The reason that we assembly everything dry is because we have inner bear shells on the main shaft and pinion shaft that are not splined to the shaft. These inner shells rely on fiction to not spin on the shaft. If we use oil on the shaft when assembling there is a chance that these parts will spin while in service. If this happens it will result in damage to the shaft and the inner bearing race. Kurt
