Porsche 911 Transaxle Build - 915 Pinion Shaft Assembly
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Thank you for watching more Porsche 915 transaxle rebuild videos. We are getting there and the gears are going back on for the final time. Hopefully you are convinced this type of work is possible in a small home garage.
Here's the snap ring plier set that I used to get the gear bits on and off - amzn.to/3zoOrtq

It's really cool to see this being done step by step... Will be a pretty useful reference for me one day I think 🙂
I enjoy the transmission/transaxle vids.

Cool, Thanks!
Proper torque wrench= Nahhh I’m goin to math the poop out of this and cobble together something to get it done. I love your solutions to get things done.

I tried to buy a crowsfoot wrench that would fit, but it would have a weird twisting action, so I said I got this!

You bet
It would be interesting to tear one of these transaxles apart. Thanks for the tips

You should! 901 transaxles are pretty cheap right now.
Nice work. Amazing what one can do at home with a press and basic tools.

Great content as always! I appreciate the meticulous approach. Looking forward to seeing this transaxle back in the car and driving (soon-ish).

Thanks for watching. First drive should be coming soon.
Great stuff once again Tom. Excellent descriptions of what you’re doing so unfamiliar folks understand what’s going on I have a number of good used 1st gear asymmetric brake bands and blocks if you’d like them donated to your other transmission build. I’d also strongly recommend the one-piece ball bearing retainer for the HP trans. The original singular retainers, which are not all that robust/strong are notorious for allowing shaft movement. That movement is what causes the diff housing bore to loosen up at the pinion location. Same trick I mentioned in other video applies- put the retainer in the shop toaster oven and the ball bearing housings slip right into the opening

Thank you Kevin. I am looking for the asymmetrical bands and blocks for first gear. That would be a big help. I just received my one piece bearing retainer and aluminum side cover from Dan Mfg. He did all the bore repairs too. Everything looks great and I'm eager to try it out. Thanks for the tips! My email is tperazzo356@gmail.com
Tom fantastic to see the trans coming together, just another pointer regarding the differences on early and later 915 internals The later style syncro ring of 1st gear will have a grove along the side surface, this was introduced to indicate the metal composition is the new type and specific for first gear use only.

Good history on 1st synchro ID. Note that 1st synchro/friction band is now installed for 2nd gear synchro parts because the .04 part number is NLA/discontinued

Even more reason to go with the later asymmetrical updated parts. They seem to be available.
@12:15 the washers go either side of the bearing... not against each other... (the parts diagram doesn't show the bearing which is weird) hope you see this in time
