The Porsche flat four has its own deep rooted history and charm, the sound of the flat four engine is absolutely fantastic as a four pot. This give Porsche enthusiast who want a turbo engine within the Boxster/ Cayman range the opportunity for the ownership without have to go down the 911 turbo route. However the flat six purists can carry on enjoying their six pot engine, I like my naturally aspirated engine coupled onto a manual transmission, bhp or performance is immaterial when I drive my flat six Porsche except that quintessential distinctive sound of my engine. I do love all box engines and their respective sound but I will only swap my flat 6 for the 4.0 Cayman and this not a rational decision rather passion for the six pot. Excellent four pot have enriched the cayman range, it’s not about six being better rather your choice being better.

Thank you for giving us another perspective on the pot four. I do agree it allows many customers that for financially reasons can’t make the jump to the 911 turbo or people that want to experience the turbo charged in a smaller engine. We had new customer now being opened to the idea of buying a smaller engine Porsche as they felt comfortable with what was on offer. These four pots offer phenomenal performance. As for the jump to the 4.0, it would be interesting to experience that. I haven’t yet driven the 4.0.

I have one of these (a Boxster) and I prefer the 2.5 over the 4l simply because the gearbox has very long gears in 1st and 2nd. This means that to get the engine in high-power rpm's, you're going 86mph in 2nd gear. You'll never get the benefit of the 4l on normal roads.

I own this exact car, and love it! I will say, I do think the 6cyl sounds better, but the 4cyl does not sound bad at all! I love the low down torque from the turbos… and would rather than that than the improved sound from the flat 6 personally. I think anyone who hasn’t driven the 4cyl needs to before making pure judgment.

Unfortunately a lot of purist slam the 4 cylinder before having even driven one and I don’t think some of the criticism sticks hence the purpose of the video

I have the 2.5l Cayman… it’s fine, and pretty decent at full chat. I had a 6 cylinder 997 911 before, and that sounded good at high revs- anything else was pretty dull. My M2 sounded great and overall a much more exciting car, but precision isn’t quite there- more of a rodeo. If that helps at all.

Watching this confirmed for me that of all the 718 variants available, the 718 Cayman GTS 2.5 is the way to go. As sonorous and wonderful as the 4.0 is, you can't beat the 2.5 for its incredible torque and efficiency, not to mention the APR tunes that allow the engine to contend with the mighty GT4. Win-win! And I think the 2.5 GTS sounds incredible.

@@invictusporsche You said the 2.5 is better than the 6.0 ?? Also in your 718s video you said “the engine is a 2.5 litre turbo flat 6” In your 987.2 video you say top speed for 2.9 is 261 , you also said the 2.9 has a dfi engine , it doesn’t only the 3.4 litre is dfi . I’m not bashing your channel but I think scripting the videos and checking the facts would make them better. It’s off putting when a specialist gets things wrong , also confusing for people new to Porsche when the stats are incorrect. I do like the sound of the flat four but it will never sound better than the N/A six 🙂

I memorise the script especially the numbers in a very short time sometimes it can be be a couple of minutes. Mishap’s can happen. It’s not my intention to get them wrong. The claim about the 2.9 being DFI is incorrect. I did get that wrong in my early videos as that was assumed. Having done further reading into it, the 2.9 is based on the 9A1 architect of the DFI. The 2.9 can still suffer from bore scoring. I appreciate the time you have taken to highlight the small detail I got wrong and I agree it shouldn’t happen.
