Pontoon Trolling Motor Battery Life | Colorado XT Trolling Motor

Спорт

"How long does your battery last?" It's one of the most asked questions that I have regarding my Colorado XT Pontoon boat. Here is a quick video that answers that question. Of course, results will very depending on your load, conditions, age of battery, and trolling motor.
My current setup is a BIG deep cycle battery with a 30lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor, with a PWM controller.
My channel has several videos on Colorado XT modifications and hacks!

That is more useful information than a chart or graph with Einsteins theory of relativity included . Us regular folks like your equasions better. We can relate 8 hours under normal to windy conditions.

Just discovered this channel and subbed! Great content! I have this same pontoon boat (no trolling motor) and this intrigues me...but I think my next move will to be get a Hobie fishing kayak.

Thanks! I think I should do a video on choosing a kayak vs pontoon. I have both (though not a Hobie!) And each has its benefits and drawbacks. If I'm out all day, it's definitely the pontoon.

How did you get a 29 battery in a minn kota battery box?

Question for you. I have a Colorado XT that I'll be using on a fairly wide slow moving river. The river's current can be up to 5 mph. How fast does your 30 lb thrust motor move your XT? I'm trying to get an idea if 30 lbs is enough for my needs. Tnx

The trick i guys is how fast do you want to move up current. I don't think I can go 5mph... Though I'm not sure. If I can, it's not much over 5, which would make it a very slow trip upsteam

@@barbaraemerich1921 The cheapest/easiest way to do it is put your oars in the water behind you so the paddles are vertical and and against the back of the pontoon. You can see it in the video. No rudder is needed if you do it this way, but the rudder does help significantly. They have NO ability to track without doing it...which is crazy annoying!

How do you counter the weight of your battery? Mine is very heavy and I have to lean forward in my chair to keep the basket out of the water. I would really like to be able to sit back in my chair. Any tips??

Hi Armando, I have two suggestions for you. First, check the pressure of the pontoons. They should be tight as a drum. My bet is that your pontoons are underinflated. Second, the seat position is slightly adjustable. Check to see if you can adjust it forward a bit. Hope that helps bud!

@@willritter I have the seat as far forward as I can get it. Do you have any suggestions or videos on how to get the max psi into the pontoons? I use an electric air pump but always lose some air when trying to close the seal. Is there a tool or a trick to this?

@@armandogarza5474 gotcha. I recommend a double action hand pump like the one I used in my first pontoon video. The electric pump isn't going to even get close to what we need in these things. If it's easier, use the electric pump until it maxes out, then go with the hand pump to bring it up to pressure. They do make gages for these, not sure where though, you'll have to Google it.

So if you buy a $300 dollar batter and cruise around the #1 speed setting, you could probably get 12 hours out of your battery... especially with a PWM controller... so this is basically irrelevant information for those with standard batteries and no PWM controller...

Hi I just bought a Minn Kota 36 lbs with a 36 shaft as you recommended in your video. Now I'm going to set up the seat steering, but what I need to know is about the battery. Specifically I wish to know the exact details that I need to ask to the battery shop, because Amazon can send the type of battery you suggested but onlely after 2 weeks and I'm going to fish in the Books sound next week. Would you be so kind to give me your contact email of Facebook to contact you in order to try to solve my matter. Thank you and congrats for your channel

I bought it at Walmart and also posted a video on how long it lasts while using the pontoon. It has all the info about the battery. Thanks!
