To add, give all their play throughs a watch. The sound quality and ability to actually see what their doing is incredible. Neurotica, playing god, chimera, all have full playthrouroughs. Not to mention polyphia releases all their tabs for sale🤘🏼

i have seen like 100 musicians reacting to polyphia cause i like how each one has their own opinions on why polyphia is amazing, urs was the most entertaining!

"Explainable but not doable" is a great explanation of Polyphia. They are technically virtuosic while maintaining listenability that allows non-musicians like me to really get into them. And then I can come to youtube and see a musician break down the technical aspects. It's why all of their videos make it to so many reaction channels.

ive watched ton of reactions to their songs, and no one ever notices some of the details you do, i was also mesmerised by the arpegios you mentioned at the end. Great job, and keep it up !

Nooo! You stopped it too soon, would have loved to see your reaction to their a capella version haha. As a serious guitarist you should look at their playthrough versions of their songs as well. You’ll get to see every note played with all camera focus on the guitar. Clay the drummer has some too that are phenomenal.

Polyphia is a true headache for teachers because the amount of harmonics and advanced picking combined with his sheer speed and technical expertise is beyond what I learned when I first took up the guitar. It is truly inspiring but holy hell do I need to work my butt off and find another ten hours a day to practice. Time to get to work since I have students interested in playing this well.

so true, I don't bump into it too often with students, mine tend to run really young and first guitar lessons or old blokes like me who still listen to 70/80/90's music... so seeing this stuff come through has been quite the education and is super fun to have new guitar things that I never knew existed to try out! But oh yeah, it's a brave new world for sure!

I really love it when people get as excited about this song and it's execution as I did when I first heard it. When you figure out that acapella version first then you can start playing along with the unplugged play though. With tablature. Eventually you will be able to sing and play the song together at a party ... where your friends will feel like you are completely MAD and have you committed to a Loony Bin for your own protection. The mad genius of these kids is priceless. ❤❤❤

It's hard to believe that this masterpiece is arguably only the 3rd or 4th best song on the album. The issue is that every time I re-listen to any song in particular on this album I hear more of the underlying rhythms and counter melodies and it's all a sudden my new favorite song for a minute. And then I go back 10 years and there's still things I hear that I missed. You talked about the drum fill that kept giving ??? ... that was like the prefect analogous euphemism for the band's entire body of work.

Natural harmonics are their signature sound. That's why everything that makes heavy use of it will be in e minor key. E.g even though Ego Death is in d minor key they just tune a step down to have those harmonics available.

I'd say it's "understandable" because it's not deep jazz roots like Vai's stuff. Let's not forget Vai was a Jazz theorist and transcribed for Zappa before he became a "famous guitarist". It's just that Henson and Polyphia come at this from a completely different angle and subvert all those expectations.
