Police Impound Unregistered Van During Homeless Encampment Cleanup in Venice
On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, a significant cleanup operation took place along Penmar Avenue in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles, involving the impounding of an unregistered van. The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., spearheaded the effort to clear the area of vehicles associated with a local homeless encampment.
As part of the operation, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) was present on site, providing outreach and support to the homeless individuals affected by the cleanup. This included offering essential resources to those displaced by the towing of vehicles.

I am one of many community members fighting to remove the RVs and Tent campers, because we are tired of them taking over the park and all the stealing, trespassing, drug dealing, toxic waste, trash, vermin, rats, cockroaches and constant noise in the neighborhood. They have no overnight camping laws. They are not allowed to enforce them. They only ask them to move so they can clean. Then they come back or move somewhere else. The Sacramento Co. Sheriff did a year long survey reaching out to 1000 homeless and only 2 homeless people accepted help. The remaining only would accept cash. They refused all free services…food, clothing, temporary housing…they only wanted cash. The majority of homeless are just like those 998…they don’t want to be told what to do or have any kind of responsibility. Too bad so sad, society and communities are sick of this issue and don’t want to see them and their crap, destroying every environment they camp on.

To anyone with clear thinking homeless people should not be permitted to have pets living in public spaces. It should go under the umbrella of animal abuse. Many of them use the animals as a ploy to garner sympathy for panhandling. Not all of course but many. I’ve seen them on the streets begging for money to feed their pets when we know darn well they are buying drugs. The government needs to end this abuse.

This needs to be patrolled at least 3 to 4 times a week and cleared out. They’ll get the message and move on to downtown or elsewhere. I can’t imagine having to live with unstable homeless people camping out all around my house. Who would be comfortable letting their kids hang out by themselves in a park packed with drug addicted/mentally unstable homeless people?

I feel sorry the cyclist that lost his bikes. He probably was already sad he wasn't racing the Tour de France. I hope he stays motivated to keep up with his training. Maybe he can try for TDF in 2025. He is clearly dedicated to bikes. So he just probably needs to put in the proper training.

I am a California native that reached the conclusion that I could no longer afford to live in Southern California any longer because housing has become too expensive, so I moved out of that State to one that is less expensive to live in - and I figured all that out BEFORE I ended up becoming homeless. Don't have pity on these people because they are homeless . . . pity them for not having any common-sense.
