Police Fired Government Expelled - Welcome to self governed Cherán

In the state of Michoacán is the town of Cherán who 10 years ago fired the Police, Mayor and expelled their local government. How did this happen and what was the result of Cherán's self governance? I had to visit this town to learn more. Come along to experience the Mexican people who fired their Mayor, Police and Government officials. Welcome to self governed Cherán.

If you do make it in the future, try and rent one of their small boats ( they rent hourly) and enjoy the tranquility of the balneario and the nature that surrounds it. But definitely avoid visiting during a Mexican Holiday season because it gets packed and noisy.

It's a safe place, but you need to know, is not a tourist place, it's just a small town, with a few activities and you need to speak Spanish. it's not like Cancun, Los Cabos, or other cities where foreigners are used to finding people who speak English. This town is for people who want a quiet and safe place.
