    I picked up a year old Polestar with a similar spec. The Dynamic range estimate, Based on my driving style, which is no compromise full aircon and speed limits on motorway, is estimated by the polestar for Irish weather at present at 380 km which is bang on with your experience.

    I'm after stopping on 28 seconds Derek. Love your channel/videos/style. Why would anyone buy this when Polestar(Ireland) are basically just trying to clear stocks of a superceded model. ?? The upgraded model has far superior performance and range. They are going to have to heavily discount these pre facelift models. Now..........I'll watch the rest of the video.

    @@NevoEVReviewIreland Don't you know it's going to be more expensive........ UNLESS.......they actually open their eyes and have a look at what's available. As soon as some of the other Chinese brands start getting imported and sold here......the current lads are in big trouble.....particularly Polestar. (and, of course I know Polestar are also Chinese)

    This is an exaggerated claim. The facelift is RWD with a bit more range. Hardly a big deal and they've reduced the pre facelift model by 10k. Also, I bought one because it's a nice, reliable car. Someone who is shopping purely on price and range will buy a Tesla or a BYD.

  • @06younger

    @@pato10111 the WLTP on the RWD LR is 650kms.......and it has almost 300 hp. I suppose if I was just commuting that wouldn't be such an issue......but I am a high miler covering the whole country......so it would be a massive upgrade for me. Not to mention.....RWD trumps FWD every day of the week. I'm not trying to put down your car......they are fantastic and especially at a 10k discount. But knowing what will be available in a few months..... I couldn't buy the current one.

    @@06younger I’m not attempting to justify my current car against the upcoming model. The 2024 update offers an additional 40km of range on the standard single-motor version, which isn’t a superior performance upgrade. The switch to rear-wheel drive was made to enhance efficiency, although the original vehicle was already quite competent. It’s likely that the remaining stock of the current model will be sold primarily to businesses in anticipation of the new release.

    @@MIA-ow2js I'm not Derek :) I'm sure he will have his own view. Just an owners perspective here. It's not huge, but bigger than a hatchback and smaller than a mid sized SUV. It's quite an easy car to "make work" because it's good quality all round. Our bigger second car can be a bit of a headache as it's not as well designed inside. You should definitely test drive one though. The existing car is good value at the moment and they have some lovely examples in stock at the moment. I was checking them out on carzone yesterday. 42k is a good price in my opinion.

    This sort of review is really useful because it is real world driving in less than ideal weather. I hope you make a feature of coast to coast reviews because nobody else is doing it quite this way. That said I would have been freaking out about charge by about half way, and in any case probably would have wanted a break. I just can not let a car get down to 7% left whether petrol or EV. The Polestar does not work for me though I admire the design. I just do not like the “everything on the iPad on the dashboard” approach, pioneered by Tesla.

    @@pato10111 I agree it is beautifully executed, but it just not my thing. I also agree it is especially smart to use Google’s software. My preference for UI/UX is something more like the most recent Alfa Romeo models; plenty of buttons and a low emphasis on infotainment. If I wanted more screen time, I think the new Minis have something really good with just enough buttons.

  • @pato10111

    @pato10111

    @@PaulMeier-cu3ds I think Polestar have the right amount of buttons and being that the screen is quite big, you don't get the same level of eye fatigue you might experience in other modern cars. I work on a computer all day and I've never found the Polestar to be a problem but when I get into something like an ID4, I find myself getting frustrated with the car. The P2 is an incredibly simple car to manage from the driver's seat and I don't think the screen compromises the car at all.

    @@pato10111 This is interesting and worth another reply. I too live on a computer screen all day and either side of it and have done for about 45 years. I am not technophobe and in fact have helped design large systems. I am reasonably up to date and use an iPad for most work nowadays. I am therefore perfectly familiar with touch screens. I find touch screens in cars work well for stuff that you do not have to set while driving. In my case I do not tend to change temperature controls except when I am at rest so I can live with that on a touch screen. Things I want to change while I am driving, say indicators, wipers, drive modes, volume control, or answering the phone, I really want on buttons or knobs I can find without having to look down. I practically never use sat nav so that is irrelevant to me. All that explains why I like the UI/UXs I mentioned. If I had two pet hates for UI/UXs at the moment they would be VW/Audi and Mercedes. So I agree the ID4 still has not recovered from VW’s blunder in trying to do their own software. Mercedes is even worse with screens, usually lots of them, for everything and capacitive buttons and glossy surfaces - the teenage spaceship look. If you want another example of a marque which has got the balance about right I would choose Mazda.

    I have changed from the 2021 model LRDM to a 2024 LRDM. The consumption is way lower and with a little bigger battery the range is actually really good. Made 475km earlier this week when pushing it from 100% down to 0%. 80km/h average speed but that was with some city driving that took it down a little. 16kWh/100km consumption. And then 10 minutes charge gave me 35%. Almost att 200kW all the way up there. :) (Added the charging test as a video)
