Polaris Sportsman 850 XP EPS drive line noise and how to fix

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

2011 Polaris Sportsman 850 XP EPS- This video shows the noise and tells all the things I did prier to actually finding the problem. Video 2 shows how to fix it. The drive belt was Bad. Had Hot spots.
. When I got it it had this terrible clunking noise. I lifted the rear wheels and found a few issues. The upper A arm was sloppy because the bolts were not torqued properly. I replaced the bushings on that right side, replaced the hub bearing and ended up replacing that right axle too.. Money pits. I still had a issue. It really feels like its in the drive train.. Transmission, rear differential maybe even to the front gear box or prop shaft just not sure at this point.. I know that I can take off in low gear and it pretty much does not do it.. Only in High which means its under a larger load. Thought maybe the belt could be part of the issue cause previous owner liked to do burn outs in his driveway so thought maybe the belt had some glazing.. So I have ordered a belt Any suggestions? Also a note: If your having issues with oil in your air box you need to update your breather system to the ones that came in the 2012 models.. Polaris has a kit to convert it over. see Vid 2 to see what the cause was and how to fix.

    A lot of folks don't realize that they need to use LOW gear more on belt systems. YES, the 850 has tons of power, but when driving at slow speeds and doing technical trails, LOW gear should be used. In the XP line-up...driving up to 20 or 25 mph in LOW will do no harm to the system. Glad you got it identified and fixed.

    Mine made a similar noise, and then promptly broke down on the side of a road. Absolutely SHREDDED my belt, somehow sent chunks of it up the clutch box breather tube and littered the road behind me in 1-2” belt chunks.

    I’m having the same problem but I’m on RZR XP TURBO 2016, it sounds like that when I’m start to run but then everything fine. “ when I reach a consistent speed “ no noise. Put in reverse gear and hear the noise when going slow then same “ no noise after I’m driving a consistent speed “ even if it’s 10-15MPH no sounds. Basically it’s just when I’m start to drive slowly. I do burnout and hard pulls. Do you think it could be the belt? Or ?

    Polaris,where do we start,so many things cause rear end problems and noise,,wheel bearings that are on the way out are quiet when first used but once warm start to make a grinding noise where a drive shaft will do it from a worn brake pad,disc or caliper can cause noise but to see this check pad wear is even,a worn prop causes a knock on set off but no slip in the rear wheels and anything belt or clutch related is, a slipping belt will need more revs to get it going and will not make the wheels stutter in a juddering motion but if your clutch is gone then(the one that holds the weights and spring )the back wheels will have a stuttering/juddering from them on set off,,I've got a sportsman xp 1k,good sides,flying machine that climbs hills even legs would not walk up with out using your arms,,bad side,hubs wear easy,suspension bushes no good,a arm bushes no good,constant wear in all the drive gear so need greasing up every 200 miles,that's bearings,prop joints,gear selector joints,lift your seat off,,the rubber boot intake you see pull it off and tape 2 layers of tights over the end and this stops a lot of dust getting in to the clutch and doing the damage your getting

    I never had this clunking. I bring it in for my first service and I get it home. I test ride it , and it clunking. Not as loud as this but it clunks whenever u change gears from Low, High Reverse. Also clunks when coming off throttle in any gear. Do you think this is still the belt? It didn’t to this until the idiots at the dealer serviced it and the belt has 27 hours on it. Thoughts....???

  • @mogyver69

    @mogyver69

    6 жыл бұрын

    well if the idiots at your dealer decided to do burn outs in the parking lot with your ATV during a test drive then I would say yes.Sometimes just hitting the throttle hard on concrete during exceleration can cause the belt to slip and put burn spots in it. So it is possible.

    mogyver69 this dealership is sooo stupid. I don’t doubt it. I can go on and on with things they’ve done. I only went there because the next polaris dealer was far far. And ty for getting back to me so quick. One more question. Is this clunking in ur experience always the problem? Because I do notice all sportsmans do it. Some worse then others. Mine didn’t until I got it back from them. And I’m meticulous with my stuff so I know it happened there.

    That sir sounds and looks like a trans gearbox issue. I got a brand new one clunking on day 1. There is a flywheel in the trans that has play and clunks. My theory is this play over time wears it out. The gearbox is out of synch due to slop in the gears.

  • @JohnnyRebKy

    @JohnnyRebKy

    8 жыл бұрын

    Search the video of a trans tear down where the guy shows the slop in the trans flywheel. When pressure is applied and released the play in the flywheel gear clunks. Then dealers tell new owners these noises are normal. Then down the road end up like you where the slop on that flywheel gear throws the whole system out of synch
