    I have a 2013 850 xp I'm getting towards the end of my second belt at just under 2k miles its done it since I got at 250 miles. New belt makes no difference. im pretty hard on mine have already broken axle carrier rear cv axle and a few other things but still runs strong and have had no drive issues from the infamous polaris clunk im convinced its the weights in the clutch ive been recently been told to really blow the clutches out and clean them up well wich should be common practice. Have also been told on 13 and up it may have something to do with the active decent controll

  • @mikes1776

    It’s slop in the transmission. You can verify it by removing the belt then turn the input shaft (the driven clutch) by hand and you can tell there is a lot play in the rotation until it actually turns the output shaft.

    Your primary clutch has 3 weights that are held on by a pin on each weight. I had the same click noise and one of my pins had surface rust causing the pin to become bound up.the weight pins are loose after you fully tighten it. And the weight freely moves. As soon as a weight pin is bound up the weight that is stuck clicks because it is moving at a delayed rate of speed and slapping the clutch. Also you can tell if it's a clutch weight if your clutch engages the driven clutch at over 2000rpm . If your weights are free your driven clutch should engage at around 1800 or 1900rpm.

With my luck I put the lift backwards and caused the atv to be lifted more than supposed to be. Did some research and saw the lift was on backwards. Noise was comin from the left cv so I felt the boot on both left and right side left side was loose and the u joint had came out but the right was ok. 70 dollar mistake on my part 😢

    Oct 2022: Our 2021 570 will clunk on IDLE after it warms up and NOT at higher rpms. It has to heat up after a few miles. Otherwise around the yard for small jobs it'll never surface. Also removed both clutches and still happens. Seems to come from upper left of engine, again ONLY WHEN HOT. No extreme vibrations that makes it un drivable.

Unfortunatly to tighten them needed to removed... Again my upper tables to reach th2 bolts, and removed tie rods and shocks to tight the one close to the deff. This fixed my cluck problem, meanwhile with time i Will see damaged the aluminum deff.housing.if so Will need to oversize bolts and housing. Will see with time. Hope this helps you out.

It’s niiiiice” so guaranteed he fucked it up. They want me to bring t back but they are a shit shop. I’d never go back there again. They also fucked some wiring up which I fixed already. Joseph Reeves I know bro and I thank u for helping me out. I baby this thing u know. It helps me pay the bills lol. The play I was referring to is when I grab the shaft and just turn till it engages. But the yoke itself I don’t remember anything odd. Cuz I tried to replicate it with twisting the shaft with my hand while it was up. But as u see it’s hard to replicate it even hitting the gas when it’s up. And I don’t wanna get too involved now cuz if the rear is apart and then we get snow, I gotta hurry back and get it all together again. So I prolly won’t be taking it apart till April. But I am gonna get my money back for the first service for sure.

    This is normal for all you that own a Polaris, and some other ATVs . I will tell you whv you here sloppy gearing in your "rear-end," Its is because of the gear "ratio". For the low end torque. This is needed when you climb hills, or rough terrain to prevent premature Wear and damage to the drive and transfer. The End result is that you end up with a higher tour gearing forgiving drive system then most. If the gearing was as tite as automobile we would be constily be breaking drive and transfer ends do to the high stress. Yes it can be annoying but this is normal at least for my three Polarises and Four of my other friends that bought them brand-new as well as myself , all different years. All sportsman. And yes' the anoing "clanking" from the slack in the drive. Hopefully this helps unless someone else has a better explanation.

    When you're plowing snow or using it to work, are you doing so in low range? If not, you need to. People assume belts take a while before they go bad, but you can foul up a belt in an hour if you're not using the machine properly. That clunking noise you're hearing towards the back is also where the clutches and belt drive is located. Notice the clunking noise occurs slightly after you go on the throttle and exactly when the drive line turns the wheels. This indicates a belt issue, possibly damage with the sheaves on the secondary pulley, but if I had to cast a bet, I'm betting it's a belt.

    Jonny Rebel hey Jonny. Of course, only low. You couldn’t plow in high even if you wanted to. There’s no power like that. But I did check the belt and it’s perfect. The noise stops after it warms up. I think it’s just the rear diff. Once the fluid becomes aerated, I fills everything in there and the noise stops.

    I'm not convinced it's the diff. Even if you're in low range while plowing snow, there's a lot of stopping, gear changing, etc. Its a constant on and off the clutches engaging. I don't think it's a diff issue. I'd try a high performance Dayco belt or something

  • @Deerector

    @Deerector

    5 жыл бұрын

    bhfd1335 hey there. It’s the rear diff. What I believe to be happening is when you first start it and you throttle fwd, you hear the clunk in the rear diff. Then as you start moving, the rear diff fluid becomes aerated in there and fills and coats everything. When it’s cold the level of fluid is at its lowest. After 5 min or so the quad doesn’t clunk anymore. It also happens to many many Polaris’. And I wouldn’t be concerned. I was and that’s why I made the video looking for help but it’s been a year or so and I’m pretty sure that’s the issue. 👌🏼

    It's differential backlash. Mine does exactly that too at the same hours. I'm an automotive technician and had to figure it for myself. ... If you remove the rear prop shaft (4 bolts ) and drive it in awd and the noise goes away, so it's not the clutch. that will confirm it. I did that to mine, no noise.

    Billy Butthole it’s the rear diff. Once I get going like 5 min, it stops. The clunk is the gear lash in the diff. When u get moving and that fluid starts getting tossed around in there, it’s becomes aerated. Possible even slightly heated up and it coats everything in the diff and everything is submerged properly so the clunk goes away. Once the machine is sitting for a bit and the fluid resets, the clunk will happen again. It’s really not an issue as I first though it was. Although I have to say, on my buddies 570, his is real low and abrupt. Mine was subtle.

    I've confirmed on my 2019 unit this is rear differential backlash noise and my Polaris won't do anything.... it's very noisy

  • @Deerector

    @Deerector

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I said thats what it was in the comments years ago. Once the rear diff fluid becomes aerated, the noise stops. The fluid warms up, gets aerated, fills up all the little voids and no more noise. Once ur unit cools, noise comes back for 5-10 minutes until it’s all warm again.

    Sheldon Cowart nah. No need to. It’s stops soon as the fluid moves around a little. Usually around 5 minutes of using the quad the clunk stops. It’s very common with Polaris. The Polaris machines that don’t do it, will. Mine started about 8-9 months in. Everyone I know that has one, it clunks. Don’t worry about it.
