It’s disgusting that Arjun had to see that whole queen sac line where he trades knights to clear a path for the bishop, before he sacrificed his knight like 6 moves earlier.

I am a weak chess player, but I hate Philodor's defense. It is the most stupidly passive opening in chess, and I don't understand why anyone would play it. I suppose since I am a King's Gambit player, I am just that kind of chess player, not bothering to play passive openings.

Bs. Arjun is the only top 10 player in the world who still regularly plays open tournaments at present. Open tournaments are inherently risky for farming ELO because even a draw will be a huge drop of ELO points, forget about a loss
@atulbesra822
23 күн бұрын
@@Dev_712 Exactly. In the last open tournament, one loss and a draw caused him to lose points heavily. In the end, he managed to finish the tournament with the loss of one elo point.Here he has won three matches in a row. A single defeat will make him to go back to where he was before the start of this tournament.

Did Vitaly have a better move than Rook g8? Was it a forced win?
@GR8_____
24 күн бұрын
He had 1.Re7 then again Qg7+ then Rxg7 then the same story repeats 2.Qc7 then again Qg7+ then Qxg7 then same story repeats 3.Qxa2+ then Kxa2 then Bd5+ then pawn takes bishop in d5 then again either Re7 or Rg8 then you can't repeat the same story because the d5 pawn is in the way but you are down a queen (because the bishop is compensated with the knight sacrifice earlier) Yes he walked into a forced mate sequence in which only one or two moves can be increased or decreased.
Arjun is a great player who does not receive the attention and recognition he deserves compared to other Indian youngsters, particularly Gukesh and Prag. I find his style of chess to be more exciting than his young compatriots.

"Chess is just funny like that sometimes." -Agadmator, 2024
Awesome Arjun ❤
Guess he thought that not playing the immediate Nc6 to tempo the queen and make it (probably) retreat and block a bishop wasn’t gonna cost him. Instead Arjun got to play Bg5, getting the Bishop out, so when Black -then- played Nc6, the Queen’s step back didn’t block a bishop. Maybe he’s one of those ‘opening moves don’t matter’ types… 🤣🤷🏻♂️🙏
Even Arjun jumping from earth to sky he can't reverse Gukesh won candidates matches But, Arjun love Gukesh so he lost in Chennai exclusively arranged for Gukesh by Visvanathan Anand But it's not that easy to win Ding Liren because Ding Liren wants Gukesh only.
i found the move!
didn't find it. And really I should have, and to make me humiliation worse, the line I chose had more variation to worry about, than the solution. I guess it goes to show, that chess did really get a boost, when, long time ago queens where changed to go "walkabout", compared to the previews iteration, where queens movements where the same as a kings, basically rather more flexible pawns, and indeed with rooks the most powerful pieces, you had two chances, and then the endgame became a very interesting pawns and perhaps queens and kings game. Makes you think how ridiculous we have become, as that change (queens movement) is basically going from chess to speed-chess, wtf do you want with blitz and the Armageddon stuff. Greed... a sin most easily excused these days, disguised as ambition, or even things like never quitting and such. And really I would dare lichess, which is the premier open platform to bring back this iteration as a variation of chess. It pays not to forget whence we came from, least we make the same mistakes again, or even get too high on our achievements.

@nicktomato7 the game essentially as Agad explained, ended very quickly after that early queen lateral move (one square move, funny enough) and black neglecting to move the bishop. It's too unforgiving and simplistic with a queen so powerful compared to old chess. Don't get me wrong, it is what it is. Just some perspective on the benefits not just the risks of moving the queen out early.
