It's a long video... but worth it. See how I do a podcast from start to finish, using sound clips I pre-recorded in Audacity as well as mp3 audio files. I use the following tools/effects:
Open / Import / Time shift / Envelope / Dyson Compressor / Cut / Copy / Paste / Fade out
Music used by permission of Adam Rey (my buddy) at www.heyreyguitar.com - buy his stuff!

Hi Carey! I learned more from your half hour tutorial than I have from watching over three hours of tutorials about Audacity- they were big on content but did not offer any practical advice on how to actually do a podcast from start to finish. I was able to create my own podcast in less than an hour. It was easy! Thanksfor the great tutorial. Tom Duggan

Tom Duggan Exactly. This was very insightful and detailed.
I can't even begin to express how helpful this video was. I'm so glad I randomly found it because I was about to give up (or go crazy!) trying to use Audacity. Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this video! I've been wanting to start a podcast and wasn't sure how to get started and I'm so glad I found your tutorials! God bless!
Thanks for the fantastic video.. Just downloaded audacity, now getting started..
Thank you for posting this. I find myself coming back to this particular video as reference.
Thank you! I was clueless how to put the pieces together, now I have a good start!
Thank you for this video. My friends and I are starting a gaming podcast, and this will help me a lot with the editing. I really appreciate the video.
i'll be definitely having a website related to the podcast. Thanks for your version of the steps, they make perfect sense
Thank you for the informative audacity / podcast video. First time I have heard of your podcast, sounds interesting...
This was a fantastic tutorial! Were good pace, and VERY informative!
Wow....awesome tutorial. Simple, very explanatory and on point.
THIS WAS SOOOOOO HELPFUL! Especially the bit about saving the pre and post mix master. You could get too excited and mix/save the whole thing and if you need to fix something you can't, because it's already all meshed together. THANK YOU!!!!

So, keep intro, outro and intermittent perpetual elements as separate projects/drop-ins. I haven't started, yet, but I'm convinced you just saved me a truckload of time and effort! Thank you, so much!

Thank you very much... it helped a lot on my assessment.. Thanks again sir..

I agree with Any Foster that was awesome and gave me an idea for my next podcast. It really helped me out
Nice tutorial. I have been thinking about using Audacity like this for years, remembering a project recorded live to and from cassettes, this is just the kick that I needed to make a better structured end product.

Great video, i'm just starting to create a podcast right now and this was my final hurdle (besides of course hosting & submitting the podcast, lol). You see all these podcast editing videos for GarageBand or other Apple software and not for PC. If you could post some other videos about podcasting (e.g. id3 tagging or anything else one should know), that would be amazing. Great video and thanks so much for taking the time to put it together
Awesome video Fam:) thank q for the tips!!
Great tutorial for beginning podcasters... like me! I agree with earlier comments that higher resolution video is sorely needed.
A great help thank you ...keep the faith

You've been a great help! Audacity is a bit frustrating at first as it needs time to get used to, but your tutorial made it much easier to use. God bless!

Good tutorial. Even though it's a few years old and Audacity has changed a little, this video is still very helpful for us podcast newbies. I immediately started recording my 30 minute podcast in smaller chunks and adding as tracks. So much easier. Thanks!

Thanks for this. I was baffled by the effects.
Thank you so much! I make youtube videos and record voice over on Audacity and this helped me out a lot.
Very helpful thank you 🙏🙏
Great job thank you very much !
Thanks Jonathan... you know, the ID3 tag thing is a good idea. You can sort of do that as you export from Audacity, but I've not found it to be very reliable. So... I think I'll do a tutorial on that (watch for it). I don't use Audacity for that though... I use another freebie program called mp3 tag, you can probably search for it I can't post a link in the comments!
Hey, thank you so much. That was an awesome video. I assume it was just for demonstration purposes that you weren't using keyboard shortcuts but if not you would save so much time using the main ones. Even just Split Track (Cmd-I on Mac) saves heaps of time. And obviously Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V to select all, copy, and paste tracks. I'm sure you know all this and I don't mean to be condescending. I just try to use my mouse as little as possible. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for the quick response, i'll definitely use that. Here's what i've gathered the steps are for podcasting (and please feel free to correct me when i'm wrong): 1. Record & Edit the podcast, export to .mp3, 2. find hosting for the podcast 3. submit the rss feed into all the top directories including iTunes. What hosting do you use? any other suggestions? Thanks so much again for your time on this, God bless!
this is very helpful. thanks!

Fantastic video! Thank you so much! I have a question.....why do you convert all tracks to mono?
@FreeAudacityTutorialpage
8 жыл бұрын
Great question! I convert to mono for two reasons: 1) It takes up less space on the media host - and most media hosts charge for storage based on size of files. 2) I know so many people who listen to podcasts with one earbud... and doing so with a stereo track is not always a pleasant experience. So, I try to make it easy for everyone to listen to with little problems. Mono is guaranteed to do that. Thanks for the question.
Hello Carey, I checked out your site, really nice layout! I am starting a second podcast with a friend, I am curious if you could tell me what you use to host your audio podcast on your website? Im using Audacity, your videos help out greatly in production value!

Thanks, I checked both your Podcasts :) You have done very well. Congratulations :)
I'd only modify your steps a little. Here's my version: 1) PLAN the podcast well (it's easy to forget stuff you intended). 2) Record. 3) Edit 4) ID3tags 5) Upload (I use libsyn, if you want to use them let me know, I can get an affiliate link that will probably give you your first month free. Their "base" plan is $5.95 per month). 6) This is where it gets tricky... are you going to have a website related to the podcast, or just do it strictly through the podcast directories like ITunes?
I am producing a podcast for two people. They do their recording in zoom, I download the audio and edit in audacity. Should I have them record in audacity fist?
Does this still exists and do you have any updates?
every time I export it has options. What are the best setting for a podcast ex. Variable, Constant. What is the expected bit rate
This is a great tutorial! Is the Dyson Compressor plugin still available for Audacity? Thanks!

Hi Alex, You can find my Audacity course at www.AudacityForPodcasting.com
ok question-- how do i create a long audio file and make it so when i stop it, it will pick up where i left off. Like podcasts or audiobooks ? I downloaded a bunch of audiobooks on youtube and converted them to audio. I just want to have it so i can pick up where i leave off, especially for the very long ones.

i think if u record and want to pause like go the bathroom and come back then u just click the pause button go to bathroom comeback click on pause button again and go on but if u want to stop recording today pick up tommorow then i would save it part one, record the other half tommorow and save it part 2 then import both tracks back into audacity and combine them from end to end
I'm wanting to start a christian podcast myself, after listening to the sound bites on the video I want to listen to the show lol.
I tried to click on the "time shift" tool to move my imported music file after my intro, all I get is a "no action" symbol symbol to what you see on a "no smoking" sign.

I downloaded Audacity for the first time. I tried to OPEN it. What comes up is "Audacity Can't be opened because it is from and unidentified developer. Your security preference allow installation of only apps from the Mac App store and identified devlelopers." What next? Is it this hard to get Audacity?

Hi Norm, that's your computer trying to be "safe." There should be an option to ignore that warning and proceed. If you downlaaded Audacity from the sourceforge website it is entirely safe.
I still can't figure it out how to add music to my audacity recording. what is another link to download Audacity with all the belts and whistle your audacity app has? Thank you
