So awesome to have our annual 2 day trip back together again! It was almost 2 years since I had seen some of these people, and it was like a family reunion having everyone reunited again.
Big congratulations to the new Captain Max, and a big thank you for keeping us busy and on fish the whole trip!
It has been a real honor watching you go from a young pinhead in training, to operating the boat yourself! Cannot wait for more future trips with you behind the wheel.
As always thanks for watching! Please Subscribe and Like the Video!

Hey Ray I saw you had a mono top shot on your saltiga 35. What pound mono top shot did you have on? And then you tied some 25# fluoro to that? I seem to hear the question a lot….mono top shot to fluoro or braid to fluoro asked a lot. Thanks!

So I run about a 80-100yd topshot of 30# mono, and started with a matching 30# fluoro leader. No bites, so I cut my leader and tied on some 25#. I do run braid to mono to fluoro. When it comes to fly line, I always have a topshot of mono. Mono comes off the reel very easily and smoothly, allowing my bait to swim more freely. Braid tends to stick to it self which doesn’t allow it to swim as fast. I will say though, there were 2 friends of mine this trip running light like 30# braid to 25# leader, and they did really well too. So it’s kinda tough to say. Definitely a softer tip rod if you go braid to fluoro to help absorb headshakes.

Great video! Quick question, are you able to cast sardines easily on the black Diamond 8’6? Looking into getting one.

Yes, I have been fishing my black diamond 869 for about 3 years now and I’ve grown to really like it! If you want something with the same amount of back bone, but maybe alittle more tip to make casting a bait alittle easier, maybe even the Phenix Axis 82MH or 82H

Looked like a awesome trip!! Is belly hooking a bait better than nose hooking?

depending on the hook you are using, fish depth, and the fish you are chasing. But in general yes

  • @Dirty.Hookers

Agreed, belly hooked baits do tend to swim better and faster than a nose hooked bait. With that being said, it’s always important to read the bite conditions. Belly hook helps the bait swim down, so if the fish are a little deeper it helps. If the fish are super active and eating really good, nose hook and just get a bait out in the bite zone.
