PLANTING PEONIES in the Garden. Peonies in the Landscape. Acorn Hill Peony Basics
Peonies. When it comes to flamboyant flowers. few plants can beat the hardy, deciduous peony - the giant blooms can often be the size of dinner plates.
Planting Peonies. How to grow peonies
All peonies require a moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Provide support for varieties with large flowers. Herbaceous peonies can be propagated by division in autumn, while tree peonies are better propagated by layering. Today, in this video, I'll show you how i plant and transplant herbaceous peonies.
Planting Peonies in the Garden. Planting Peonies in the Landscape. Planting peonies and what peonies require. Plant peonies in a rich but well-drained soil in a position of full sun. Avoid planting these often expensive plants in a waterlogged soil. The majority of herbaceous peonies prefer a neutral or slightly alkaline soil.
Bare-root peony plants should be planted as soon as they arrive. Peonies are best planted in autumn or spring. Ensure you don’t plant them too deeply, as this will yield poor results. Mix in plenty of well-rotted organic matter before planting. Apply a balanced fertiliser in spring.

That’s kind of you to say. May is best spent when peonies give a full show in the garden. This is the second season for these newly planted peonies in our landscape. Will share a plant profile vlog about them soon. Stay tuned! 😀

Believe it or not, I bought and still buy them from a grocery store called LIDL. Sometimes I go to a big box store when I feel like it.

I planted three peonies in the ground last year and now I can see the stems. May I ask when should I start fertilizing the peonies for this spring? I live in Zone 6. Thanks

Now is the perfect time to fertilize them. Use a light dissolvable fertilizer high in potash. I use miracle-gro bloom powder. Make sure you use it at half strength as the plant is just waking up. I would apply this every week. For 4-5 weeks After a first week of liquid high potash, apply Espoma Plant-tone along the drip line of the plant (this will be your long term fertilizer for the season. Tree peonies are the best to have make sure you DO NOT prune the branches as they bloom only on old wood. Good luck and have fun this season. Thanks for chiming in Elaine!

No not at all. As long as the roots are 2 inches below the soil level. They may not flower this year anymore, but…the roots will have plenty of time to develop for next years blooms. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out!
