Yes they do but since the Little Gem is supposed to be a smaller end product I hope not as bad. We had a regular magnolia at our last home and my husband really disliked it! I personally think the reward of the beauty of the tree is so worth it and I can’t wait until my Little Gem is big enough to use its branches for decorating. I used our last tree to make large door swags, wreaths, and fireplace swags during the holidays…they were so gorgeous and looked like I spent a bunch of money! Just tell your husband you’ll take care of the tree cleaning 😀! Thanks for watching.

Apply Milky Spore to your yard. You apparently have to kill the grubs in the yard for the Beatles. They destroyed my yard last year. It was awful. Look up what to do with Milky Spore. This is the best I have found. Best wishes!

Don't smash the jap beetles. The debate is that this will cause to release a pheromone that attracts more beetles to your area. Hang some traps far away from your garden. They are attracted to the trap and could bring more from surrounding areas to your garden if it's close by. The best thing is to tough it out. They come in fast and furious but don't last that long and everything should leaf back out. Good luck gardening! Enjoying your videos!

Thanks…yeah I think waiting them out has worked best but boy does it give me satisfaction to smush those suckers!

I have two of these trees. One I planted in my backyard and another one in a big planting pot in front of my home at the beginning of June of this year. They both are doing well. My trees are only 3ft tall and the tree in my backyard bloomed two flowers a couple of wks ago. I'm going to try the neem oil because I'm having the same problem with the beetles. Research neem oil and see if it's something you may like to use for your tree.
