Little Gem Magnolia - Fragrant Evergreen Dwarf Tree - In this video I go over Little Gem Magnolias. It is a dwarf southern Magnolia that is widely used. It can reach 25+' over a long period of time. Little Gem has beautiful two tone evergreen foliage and super fragrant large white flowers.

    Planted one of these in 2018 in my front side yard 15 gallon plant. haven’t put on a lot of vertical growth but has gotten more dense. Love the fragrance.

    Love this video!! I have 3 teddy bear magnolias!! I did plant one about 5 feet from my house but I figured pruning the house side once it starts touching the house would be acceptable.

    Grow good in Southern New Jersey farther north make sure to plant spring or early summer give plenty of time to grow root in and gradually acclimate to colder temperatures to colder temperatures in the winter. Also be careful.of wet heavy snow breaking branches when they are small . Shake it off can help. Once they get larger and fuller it's not a problem

    I believe i have a beautiful tree like this in my backyard. Its pretty big and i believe that the previous owner planted it too close to the neighbors fence line and now they want me to cut it down,im having a hard time bc its beautiful and it looks really healthy 😢😢 my son&husband do also complain about the little pine cones when they mow the yard 😢but its a beautiful tree with beautiful leafs and flowers.

    Greetings Jim. I live in south Florida have two little gem Magnolia that I planted approximately 2 months ago. They are about 5’ and since I purchased them they both had left over flower blooms which over time they should become the seed pods. Should O leave them alone or cut them. I don’t want them to take energy away from tree growth. Please make more videos. Maybe pruning and fertilizing. Thanks

    Sorry for mistakes. Also some wind protection when small or don't have lots of leaves helps plant ger through if you get harsh winter cold winds dessicating leaves

    Just planted 2 of these about 3wks ago. 30 gallon, about 5ft tall. I've already had one flower spring up. I've been watering daily... Should I be doing daily, or less? And how much water each time ? I feel like the leaves look a little droopier lately.

    I bought two little gems for the corner of my lot it is about a 8-ft 10-ft space at the corner of my fence. I noticed you said they're slow growers I bought it from a grower that container grows the whole life of the plant how fast would these grow to fill that space 10 years?

    When is the best time to plant a little gem? I have a spot ready for one, but I’ve read different things. With it being summer now, can I plant in say September? I’m in Texas (zone 8b) and it’s HOT, but we can also get cold weather in the winter.

    I planted mine a couple of years. It gets lots of blooms but the leaves are lesser every year. 🥺. It always have these white stuff on the leaves. What can I do about that?

    well I must of gotten a true dwarf because the one I have is still only 6 feet tall have had it over 10 years and it flowers beautifully sometimes twice, it is planted next to the house, (needs protecting in the winter which it gets). my braken brown beauty is furthur fromthe house in three years has grown from five feet to almost nine feet so pretty. it did not flower last year for some reason guess it wanted to put all energy into growth. is that normal?

    Definitely, just don't bury it too deep and give it a little bed space without turf growing up to it.

    It is done in the spring and takes several weeks to germinate. I don't know if the seed is viable on hybrids. Probably not. Only old Southern Magnolias probably.

    Hi, I hope you read this soon. I had five newbie Camelia bushes. So far, I’ve lost two, and the others, the leaves are turning brown. This is exactly what happened to the other two. I’m trying to save them, but don’t know what’s going on? Any ideas, anyone??

    What state are you in? Here in N.C. we get so much water we have to plant them 2-3 inches higher I think it's called mounding them up. Jim has lots of videos where he's planting camellias. I sure hope you found them.

    We plan to plant a row of these in the middle of our lawn to block a view. How close can we plant them to each other? Is a 36 inch wide strip of planting bed enough under them? Like the grass coming up to 18 inches from the base of the trunks?

    So you said that they are hardly from zones 7 - 10. I am zone 9b in Arizona. I want to plant a Magnolia tree. I have 10 acres so I have room for even the giant Magnolia. But it gets hot in my desert acreage. You said that they need full sun, but I am not sure they would like my full sun. What do you think? Could I grow one in my area? Oh, and my soil is silt mostly.

    It is a southeast native. I think the ph and the dry air are both a problem for growing it in arizona.

    @@JimPutnam I was thinking that. But a local nursery has Magnolia trees for sale so I was wondering if I could really grow one here. I saw one growing in the ground at Shaman O'Leary Topical Plant Nursery who is in Phoenix area. I live in a rural town outside of the city.

    No, it's very evergreen. It can take some wind burn, if it is in open space in a bad winter
