Seemed more like takeoff - no spoilers and flaps are only partially extended. Also, engines spool down once the pilots recognize that somethings wrong (instead of remaining at same power with reversers on)

The pilot in command made a bad decision. We don’t land on runways with inadequate braking ability. And you NEVER try to take a high speed turnoff on an icy runway above taxi speed.

Im from Chicago and work at OHare Airport. Most of the flights were delayed and canceled for a good reason during the last snow/ ice storm two weeks ago. There were lots of people sleeping at the airport every night. This is a risk you take flying in January.

Not at all. This is very POOR piloting. Landing with inadequate braking action instead of diverting to another airport. And trying to turn above taxi speed on an icy surface. This was not good piloting. I’m an ex military Delta 767 pilot BTW.

This was N619AE - an Embraer ERJ 145 operated by Envoy Air on Nov 11 2019. Some landing gear collapsed in this incident but the plane was returned to use in Feb 2020, wound up being stored on Sept 9 and ultimately was withdrawn from service in Jan 2023....for those curious

I'm astonished by the lack of screaming! I'm also glad that there's no screaming.

Certain brands of white people are very chill about things. It's very regional. Dunno if its culture or DNA but sometimes it comes in hady... bites you in the ass when compliance is the wrong response but as long as the systems are functioning the way a normal law abiding person expects things are good. In this case, screaming slows down an evacuation.

I was just on a flight from Puerto Vallarta to Dallas a week or so ago during a wind storm. The sky kept dropping out from under us so the plane would fall a few feet before catching air again. Gives you that rollercoaster feeling and people were screaming every time lol.

Probably cause people couldn't actually tell what was happening. Not all seats have windows, so unless you could see out, you'd probably think the plane was off the ground.

Fun fact Chicago airport was fined over a million dollars for this incident. They failed to inform the crew of how bad the runway condition was prior to landing.

@@hillbillyintheasia6122peanuts maybe but it’s pretty rare for ATC to get fined. Also just because the runway is covered in snow doesn’t inherently mean the traction and braking action is terrible. Which is why airports rely on pilot reports and do friction tests on the runways. The results of which were not passed along to the crew.

Happened in Denver, too. News asked one family about it. The kid said, “Dad wasn’t cussing, which was pretty weird.”

Glad everyone's okay. At least they got a laugh out of it. 😅

Either thats the most chill group of passengers or its a common occurrence in Chicago 😁

That's what I thought too. Quick hand at the fuel cut off when they felt it go. I can't wait to hear the cockpit recording I bet they they were really chill. Heh, chill. I'd totally fly with them.

Shout out to the pilot for idling down and remaining cool under pressure. Nobody wouldve died but probably saved alot of hurt necks and backs.

It was on landing, not takeoff. I think the thrust reversers were running and turn off at about the same moment they slide. The change in thrust may have caused the slide if it was uneven but I'm just guessing. Pretty sure this was on landing tho.

Um.... what? People could've 100% most certainly died. This isn't the first accident of this kind. There have been quite a few incidents where people die after a plane slides off the runway.

As a commercial airline pilot. I give them ZERO props. No one forces you to land on a runway with NIL breaking conditions. Bad call here.

@@Dude8718just like race cars. At the limits (artificially low with ice) you EITHER brake OR turn. You DO NOT try to do both.

Great attitude, passengers; no panicking, just calm homour

Coming back on a flight from Puerto Rico to the states many years ago we lost an engine mid-flight and had to turn back to San Juan airport. There was lots of screaming, crying, praying and rosaries flying around.

Finally, someone who can hold the camera still and capture 99% of the good stuff. He lost that 1% near the end when he was shoved into the window. Hey, he gets excused for that. Good job mate!

My instructor was a ex Russian fighter jet pilot. Used to tell me "if you have to dig the propeller in the ground to save yourself, you do it! You land bad, you landed! Plane is only a plane, you are fragile" Every landing is a good landing when you walk away from it. Never had to dig the prop! Thank the Lord!
