3 weeks into my Pixel 8 Pro and loving it. My only request from Google is that they continue to improve the Pixel camera app and add on screen controls to lock both focus and white balance while in video mode . I know there are ways to do what I'm asking for, but I find them a bit imprecise. Hoping for a software update that adds Pro Video controls similar to the Pro Photo mode . This isn't a complaint it's a feature request and I've sent feedback to Google in hopes we'll get it in a future update.

For 95% of users, many of the flagship and midrange phones are PLENTY fast enough. Cameras on many phones are pretty darn good as well. I think people have lost the ability to appreciate things. Nothing is 'good enough'. I have a Pixel 7 as my secondary phone and it's an excellent phone, with the exception of the not-so-good fingerprint sensor. We didn't even HAVE Cell phones when I was growing up, much less smart phones. For many, their expectations are unrealistic. Thus endeth the rant. Nice one as usual Adam.

@@sams1585Beauty is in the eye of the beholder right...😊, so I think the qualities that make a smartphone good are individually determined by each of our own needs and wants. Personally I love the Pixel phones, set my Samsung Ultra aside to keep using a Pixel as my primary. I did not expect that outcome but I fell in love with Pixel's software and hardware. No complaints.

@@perperikis5501 I agree with you in that regard. Still, Apple and Android both have lower cost options available, Android more so. I guess it all depends om whether you want the latest and greatest, or something more modest. Me? My next phone, be it Android or Apple, Will NOT be the top end phone. Picked up my pixel 8 Pro 1 week after launch, so far so good. No major issues, although it doesn't seem like a huge speed increase over the 3a XL... It is notably faster when loading multitudes of thumbnails such as in KZread, has significantly better cameras and more storage space. Got the update last night, on Verizon. My 3a XL typically updated on the 5th of every month. This update for the eight pro is listed as a November 5th update. Seems like they're holding the same update pattern of releasing it on the 5th.

Since I got the 8 pro I've not had any issues with it in terms of connectivity or it getting warm...and the battery life so far is above average. I had little issues with the 6 pro The modem in this 8 pro is much better...I was getting 350 mbps download on my 6 pro and now with my 8 pro I'm getting 750+ mbps download. I played with the 8 Pro's "pro" camera features a lot, and I can say from experience, that the difference in processing time from the pixel-binned images to the 50mp images is nearly negligible. By contrast, if there's a lot of dynamic range in your scene or there are a lot of different things being recognized by the Pixel camera, like people, pets, various skin tones, sky, and deep shadows, etc... that usually results in longer processing time - sometimes several seconds. But in return, it's going to show you the Best Take options, it's going to detect what type of photo you just took, whether it's a portrait, landscape, document, etc... it's going to reduce the highlights, raise the shadows, sharpen fine details, smooth skin, all that HDR shit. The Pixel camera is doing a ton in the background and it doesn't always get it right, but that is what you're getting when you buy a Pixel. Turn some of those "AI" features off, and you still have one of the best, if not the best, point-and-shoot smartphone cameras available.

The issue I have with the pixel right now, is in the past they would discount them so quickly almost days after they had come out. But with this last generation of Pixels doesn't feel like they have. I really wanted to see the Pixel fold hit 799-999$ and was going to call it the best high end fold for the price. But this time around I think missed their audience.

I would suggest if next pixel pro can change thermometer to thermal sensor for camera or infrared for night time mono photography and also can use as remote, barcode scanner. It would also be great working with blackberry for their security software to enhance security and make new tensor chip build in with gps, so can find the phone while switched off or stolen

It's also strange that we have attacks from both sides. We have super android fans who get number obsessed and probably dislike that it is taking a similar approach to apple and focusing on software and external hardware and doing their own thing with internals. Ironically there are also lots of people nostalgic about the Pixel 5 which got destroyed because it was (even more so) a mid range phone with below top level chip, battery etc etc. The Pixel 8 series with bundled pre order bonus of watch or buds pro is still an absolute bargain in the phone market.

I had the same issue with my P6 Pro and went back to iPhone. Now I'm with the S23 Ultra and my next phone I'd like to give Google another chance, but I'm afraid of support issues as AT&T doesn't deal with Google and vice versa. Everything went through Google and I had to pay for a new phone while it was in transit and I returned the defect all because I didn't buy direct though Google. Maybe it's changed now, when I'm ready I'll look into. Who knows what will out in 6 months time.

After trying out so many phones, I start caring less and less about spec sheets. I care even less about the benchmark apps. I never push my phone to its limit. I turn off animations and high refresh rates because in that case I can't tell. Is the signal reliable? Does the battery last? Does it run cool under normal use? Do photos look good enough to print an album? Do videos look good when casting on TV? Wishing they brought back the SD drive, the headphone jack. You've got Sony and Asus. Sony's too expensive with crappy selfie cam, Zenfone 10 isn't compatible with Verizon or any mvnos that use Verizon. P.S. Hope your parent is doing well.

Urgh ... just upgraded to the Pixel 8 yesterday and I have to say that i'm somewhat disappointed. However, I'm not disapointed for any major issue but it seems odd to me that in terms of customization; somehow Samsung does it better. Case in point: I'm the personality type that likes things clean and organized. I just don't like a continuous grid of icons because it feels clutterd to me. If you're like me and you scroll up to access all your apps on the Pixel 8, you'll be disappointed to find that you cannot organize those apps into folders. Someting else that really bothers me is that on my Galaxy phones I can always set my pin number to not require confirmation. I'm probably getting the termnology wrong but what I'm talking about is when you enter your pin you also have to hit the arrow button to confirm/enter. Sure you have to do that on a Galaxy phone as well but Samsung offers you the option to turn the confirmation off meaning that as soon as you enter your pin you're in. I'm really surprised that Google didn't include this customization. I've only had the phone for less then 24 hours now and so far I love it but these little customization issues are significant to me. I'm hoping I don't bump into more or I may take AT&T up on the offer to send it back but as mush as I love Galaxy phones, I hate that Samsung sits between men and Google prioritizing Samsung apps and collecting data.
