I actually sold my X-T20 (which I learnt a lot with Omar) and bought a Pixel 8 Pro. 95% of my photography was Pixel 6 only... Had to force myself to use the Fuji. Not practical when you have 3 kids. And then always had to edit photos on my computer which made it even more unappealing. I'm not a professional so I don't miss the Fuji that much (still miss it sometimes)

Wow.... I actually sold my XT30 to buy the pixel 8 pro. Never seemed to have the Fuji + lens etc with me, and when I did bring them in a mountain trip in Switzerland, I forgot the spare batteries 😂. decided then convenience is better than quality sometimes.

@@stephencomerford7137 yes! The X-T20 & 35mm F2 combo was small but still had to be carried in a camera bag. My pocket is much more convenient using a smartphone. Bought a small 5k mAh battery pack when I go out knowing I might need it. Also have a small selfie stick/tripod with a remote and it's perfect for astrophotography. As I said... 95% is enough. The other 5%... I still have a friend with a X-T30 & 35 f2 & 50-140 f2.8 that will lend it to me if I ever need it. Those 5% are rare

Nice video, thanks for the tips. I own the Pixel 8 Pro and have enjoyed shooting photos with it when I don't want to lug around my mirrorless cameras. The pro mode opens lots of manual controls that I love. Manual focus with peaking really lets you focus with great accuracy. When shooting videos using video boost I always under expose around 3/4 to a full stop using manual brightness controls as I find Google's video boost lightens the scene more than the actual scene I was videoing. Won't replace my big camera but a wonderful tool to have when I need to go really light or dont have the camera with me . I have been delighted with it since purchasing and bought it as soon as it became available.

The best camera is the camera you have at that moment in your pocket. Funny guy, love the video!

Interesting timing... I was at Bear Creek Preserve Saturday hiking with a friend. I had my camera in my backpack, but decided just to shoot both video and stills with my Pixel 6 for the day. It was kind fun. I do find I fumble around holding a phone for photography sometimes. The only downside was that my backpack was full the entire hike so my back and shoulders were feeling it at the end. I've had a big mental block regarding video editing for a while, so shooting video with the phone was nice. Thanks for the tips. Have a good week.

Okay this was such a fun video it almost made me want to buy a Pixel. Almost 😂.

I used Pixel 4a and 7a for holiday photography before and both were very capable. The key is knowing the limitations of your device and to have at least a basic understanding of perspective and composition. Good point about getting close to your subject, Omar. The tiny size of a smartphone does allow some very creative compositions. Also, I use the 2x zoom to get the 50mm FF eqv. to get the natural look of a 50mm focal length lens. It works surprisingly well and does give the images a bit more mature look, comapred to the wide angle (1x zoom) focal length of a smartphone camera, if you know what I mean.

His skills are great, not the phone doing the work. He is showing us how to do this with almost any phone. You can do it with Samsung or Apple too with his same steps. So dont feel you need the greatest and latest. Go out and use your current phone with his steps, you might be surprised with the results.

You might want to do a video about shooting the pixel in raw. The algorithm can overdo sharpening and noise reduction. Plus it's easy to change white balance later in raw processing. It can be overly time consuming so I tend to be pretty picky about which raw files I save.

A lot of my favorite camera reviews have added phones. Everyday Dad, Petal pixel, you.... Pretty crazy.

Very nice! I would love it if you could try to see how the p8p fares at night also for macro shots. That is for example taking photos of something up close at night with a headtorch. Cant seem to find this information when searching around

In order to unlock the full photography potential of the pixel you have to shoot raw. I also use the cobalt color profiles, without making them marketing, I am really happy with the results in terms of natural color, wb, and details. There is no going back. The pixel is my all-day companion to my Canon 5dm3. I am editing on a 28 inch 4k srgb monitor, and the quality in Lightroom is surprisingly good for the pixel.

Interesting vid as always, I would be interested to see how large you can print these phone raw files.

I've been using my Pixel 8 Pro for a few months. I compared the 12 and 48mp dng photos in Lightroom and don't see a huge difference in resolution, but there is lower noise with the binned 12mp photos. If you look at the quad pixel sensor design, the color filters are grouped in blocks of 4. In good light, maybe the 48mp sensor gives a very slight bump in detail, but not enough to really make a difference. I'd also like to see a dng only option, but I guess that breaks the options to easily share the photos. Also, if you get a screen protector for the pixel 8, do not use the lens protector if it includes one... the one I had really degraded the photos.

Hi Omar, the photos are beautiful, especially those of the leaves and the details of the ants. Regarding the pixel raw photos, I have a doubt: when I import them into Lightroom, I find that even after processing the file, the photo never comes out as it should...I don't know if I'm making the point. It always seems like something is "missing". I even find that Lightroom works better with JPEG files. Have you noticed anything similar? What are your impressions?

Which camera app were you using? Really liked the layout.

IIRC, PetaPixel had a comparison video. As for computational photopgraphy, it's safe to say that HDR, night mode and bokeh are definitely generated.

I'm literally looking at buying the 8 pro (currently a LG V 60 person and it's great but no update on camera! (Cause they stopped making them!!) Sigh! Love LG phones! And we don't say G out loud in my house, unless we need her, cause she answers! She is currently southern GA British.. don't ask!! Somehow that's her lingo! I I love the customized home G.. she knows what I listen too when I say play music, and it's my fav playlist. Would this be a phone for a G user? Is this a good phone to run a video/photo business? As far as capabilities? I do always have my Lumix S5II, to capture most moments, bit sometimes the phone gets the shot !

I can‘t hold the focus by tapping on a subject. In pro mode there is only focus stacking. How did you do that?

Damn it. I explained it wrong. What I was doing was using autofocus by tapping THEN going to the focus setting and switching it to MANUAL so it would lock. Sorry about that

I sold my Pixel 8 Pro - crazy oversharpening which cant be fixed - white balance too cool - 50 MP photos cant be used with moving objects - video boost files are huge (15GB and above) In my opinion a smartphone should be convinient. But if I have to shoot RAW to save me from sharpening and contrast hell I better use my tiny mFT camera. The Pixel is for the average population, definitely not for photographers.

@@karimkitty1 "Better" might not be the right term. Its a matter of taste. For me the latest chinese phones arent as aggressive in sharpening as the Pixel. But the fake HDR thing is affecting nearly all brands. Sony doesent go that route. I just commented because this is a photography channel. And many photographers might be annoyed by this aggressive processing. Certainly am. I stick to my Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra from 3 years ago, (Which also does not produce pictures im happy with) and carry my Panasonic GX800 with me all day. Or even a Sony ZV1 would be way better in my eyes.

Why not use micro four thirds camera like OM systems OM-1 or Panasonic GH9 mark II. With them you can travel light.
