Love your video, I’ll have to find someone selling the whole elevator unit, because my dad’s elevator is broken and the needle skids across the records. Plus it makes a clunky sound when spinning around. So might need the springs adjusted or something. But either way I have taken it apart and for a Father’s Day gift I want to fix it for my dad. He has a whole pioneer setup, with a receiver and tape player and a cd player and this record player. I think he got all the different units in the 80s. But thankfully the cd player and tape player both work perfectly. The receiver works great too. Just his record player is having issues. So gonna find the parts and fix it, or maybe a shop in Minnesota can fix it for me.

eBay is likely your only source for parts. People will part them out from time to time. Set up a search using the service manual part #, nomenclature, and/or common name and you'll eventually stumble upon one.

@@millervintagehifi3034 I ended up finding one and bought it, so im excited to change that out, then to figure out the clicking sound when it spins and a record is on the unit.

I dont really mess with electronics, but for a minute i've been wanting to swap the power cable for 5-15p and connect the ground to that gnd lead, I have a 115D. I think i'll be upgrading the rca cables with some kab pops though, they're a little rough and it's a fairly easy change since I do have a bit of experience soldering mods and guitars.

Awesome video so helpful. I ran this test on my PL 510a due to a hum and when I go black to ground and touch red to lower right I get nothing. So both rca's have continuity with ground to lower right on tonearm nothing? Any ideas on what to look for? thanks again - definitely a subscriber!!

So that would be the green wire? Do you have continuity on both ends of the green tonearm wire (lower right in the tonearm to where the green wire terminates underneath)?

@@millervintagehifi3034 I'll check that. It's like in your video when you checked the ground to lower right except I don't have continuity. I'll report back thank you. I have a hum and when I touch the tone arm it gets worse. I wonder if it's one of the two black wires that go up into the tonearm assembly and are either broken or rubbed a bare spot. I've checked the service manual for the pl-510a and they do not show how those wires connect up in there? Thanks again your videos are so helpful and so well done I hope you keep making them!

Ground hum can be really tough to track down. You can also try this - take some very thin wire and wrap one end around the green post on the cartridge...I've also sandwiched the wire between the green headshell wire connector and the post it slides onto. Wrap the other end of the wire around the base of the headshell (where it 'screws' into the tonearm) and see if the hum gets better.
