Pink Floyd - Time (Lyrics included)

Lyrics:
Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
BREATHE REPRISE
Home, home again
I like to be here when I can
And when I come home cold and tired
It's good to warm my bones beside the fire
Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells.

In the summer of 1974 on a to hot and humid Indiana night my girl and I were listening to this on a little am radio, I proposed to her that night. 36 years later and five great kids all grown up. She was killed one night by a drunk driver Now sometimes when it is to hot and humid, I play this song, and suddenly I am no longer 62 but am 19 again and for a brief moment in time I am back with my girl. I miss you Brit.

I don’t find this song depressing. On the contrary. I find it as sort of a walk up call and motivational statement. The clock is running. Don’t waste time. If you have a goal, or a dream, get moving. Now is as good a time as any.

Man this takes me back. When I was a little kid back in the early 80's my dad would put this album on his stereo at night and turn it up loud where we could hear it on the front porch. We lived out in the country so we didn't have to worry about the music being too loud. I sure miss my dad. He passed away in 2009. Great memories!!!

I was once a Pink Floyd fan, 72 now. "waiting for some one or something to show you the way" Those words were so true for me friends. One night in the pub in the late 70's I said to my mate "Colin, there's got to be more to life than this, I feel so empty. That was the beginning, as a self employed builder (and still am) I got a large job on a church. A lady came out to speak with me quite often and told me I needed Christ who is the way, truth and life (John 14:6) I once was lost but now I'm found.

This was one of his favourite tracks, we used to listen to this song all the time while we were hanging out in his car. And now I listen to it to relive all those memories again. He was the love of my life, my soulmate. I never imagined I'd lose him one day. He passed away just recently on 6th September. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye or tell him I love him. I hadn't seen him for over a month and we were planning to spend our birthdays together. His is on 17th September and mine on 18th of the same month. It was a tragic departure cuz everything was left incomplete. I was holding a grudge against him for the last time we had broken up and when he texted me and said he loves me I didn't even say it back. He kept on asking me when would I return back to Delhi from my hometown. I wish I would have gone back sooner. I didn't even get to hear his voice or see him for the last time and it hurts so much to think I'll never be able to do that again. Please come back Woungh I'm really sorry for all the times I was mean to you but I bet you knew how deeply I love you and I will keep on loving you until the end of time. Always and forever.

I understand. My ex was a drug addict and it destroyed our relationship. We were supposed to get married and have a wonderful life, but drugs stole it all and we split in late 2004. He died alone last July, having gone from being wealthy and extremely successful to physically sick and living hand to mouth because of the decades of addiction. Over the years he kept coming back to say he loved me and that he'd change, but he could never give up the drugs/alcohol. I only found out a month after he died, so missed his funeral. I was devastated by that, so my friend and I decided to have a little funeral for him ourselves. It was beautiful and really helped me to heal. Much love.

Time is a perception but the lyrics on this song are true. Time is everywhere and nowhere . Like a computer page upon page with your perception of your time in whatever zone or page your tuned to. I’m 6ft2in stand by me pick out any item or object and while we might agree on what ever object we looked at we did not see the object exactly the same . My view is from my height. Your view probably a touch shorter. Perception of reality is also time related...oneself never dies you pass to a higher plane.

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day You fritter and waste the hours in an off hand way Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town Waiting for someone or something to show you the way Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today And then one day you find ten years have got behind you No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking And racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in the relative way, but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say Home, home again I like to be here when I can And when I come home cold and tired It's good to warm my bones beside the fire Far away across the field The tolling of the iron bell Calls the faithful to their knees To hear the softly spoken magic spells

"Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time. Plans that either come to naught, or half a page of scribbled lines"... "The time is gone, the song is over. Thought i'd something more to say..." Damn, that last verse really encapsulates the misery of having wasted most of our lives drifting in bland mediocrity, when we knew there was way more potential for greater levels in us left aside in whatever areas, and now its the end that time to maximise living is gone forever instead largely spent on worthless things. pretty fucked up way to have spent this one life we had. So I guess this track can serve as a perspective reminder to make better use of it now while we can in the ways we know we could, instead of another 5, 10 years going by largely wasted or worse and being the person at the end of the song. Clarify some ideals meaningful to us where we feel we are capable of doing & enjoying better, and figure out how we can direct & motivate ourselves often to experience those and make more of our potentials (like pink Floyd did in creating this). make great use of most of our time by our own definition instead of wasting it again.

My Grandpa, Harry Sims, always said, " I'm doing 100," when asked how things were going. Only, on his 100th birthday, looking slightly disgusted on it already arriving, said, " I should have said, 103, I could have lived in three centuries". His only complaint, his feet were sore, at times. Not knowing, shaking all those sick hands in winter, will be hi death. But, what a way to go. Sharp as a tack, and wanting three more yeRs, when you hit 100, no?

Like all Pink Floyd's work. Right from Animals to Dark Side of the Moon to Brain Damage to Atom Heart Mother. All of them are masterpieces. So much depth and meaning, you cannot possibly find just one interpretation to any song. They mean different to every one, at every moment of their lives. However, *TIME & ECHOES* are the most remarkable and imperishable songs ever made in Pink Floyd's era as well as World's music history. You gotta love PF like a religion, may be then you can understand they created masterpieces, not just music and vocals.

I even made up my own story to coincide with Dark Side of The Moon. Here's a link to it: Breathe: The family are heading to the airport to travel to their cousins in Arizona. The daughter is anxious because she's never been on a plane before, so the parents try to calm her down. It works eventually, so they decide to play some road games to pass the time. On The Run: They're boarding the airplane. The plane experiences turbulence during the flight a few times, which brings the daughter's anxiety back up. The parents console her again until the plane crashes in Houston. The daughter is the only survivor. Time: It turns out the plane crashed into a monument made for the gods in order to keep life running. Of course with it destroyed, the gods have no choice but to end all life. So to bring about the apocalypse, they send the Sun towards the Earth. Just for this situation, scientists all over the world had developed spacecraft designed to withstand up to a million people each. Lucky for the girl, one happens to be in Houston. She manages to get inside just before takeoff. The Great Gig In The Sky: The girl is crying now because her home planet has been destroyed, as well as her family. But at the same time, she is in awe of the beauty of the universe. She hopes her cousins made it to a ship. Money: They land on a new planet that can sustain life, and develop their new society rather quickly. It only takes a full year. But when resources start running low, two nations start preparing to war for what's left of said resources. Us and Them: The little girl is forced to participate in the war. Since she is just a child, she is given an assistant to aide her. She and 199 other little girls are trained rigorously to become tough killing machines. Any Colour You Like: The two nations are finally at war. Many harsh battles are being fought, but it all comes to an end when the nuke is dropped. Brain Damage: The assistant is still alive but is lost in the fallout. He looks for other survivors. Eventually, he finds the little girl. She's hurt badly. The assistant attempts to heal her, but a survivor from the other nation kills her off. In a fit of rage, the assistant mercilessly stabs the other survivor. Eclipse: The assistant properly mourns over the little girl, crying over her grave with a bouquet of flowers. In a state of depression, the assistant commits suicide to end the internal pain of not being able to save her. ---THE END---

No matter what age someone is, they are interested in what they're interested in, no matter the expiernences most likely wrought with pain they've been through, everyone often has a way of coping, and recently, although mainly only with teens has that been to cope with whatever inner turmoil and emotional pain brought onto them by whatever it is in their life, and their general respons has been to either use drugs or look at memes for hours. The world never ceasces to amaze me in unexplicable ways, often ways with a deep, often underlying, sadness to it.

My dear dear friend past away not that long ago. While still bent over from that psychological kick in the stomach (two days later), another dear friend passed away...kinda like getting kneed in the face before any chance to breathe. Thank you to my dear friends that are left who watched over me and held me close just to make sure that I remained a survivor

I have to be honest, I’m really not a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I can’t put into words how much I love this song. I love melancholic music. Kind of dark and dreary sound, I can’t get enough of it, and this song might be why. I had this album on CD when I was very young. I got a CD player and a pair of headphones gifted to me when I was a toddler, and you’d never see me without it. I played this CD over and over and over specifically for this song. For years, I’ve had the tiniest scraps of memory concerning this song, more a feeling it gave me than an actual memory, but I couldn’t remember any of the words or the name. I found it today and the nostalgia was so intense that it almost brought me to tears. Then once the guitar solo kicked in, it did, and trust me it takes a lot to make me cry. Been nearly 2 decades since I’ve heard this song, and the words I could never remember came back to me so clearly that I could’ve sang along with it if I had really wanted to. If they pressed this song on to vinyl as a single, I’d pick it up without thinking. Hell, I might even buy the album just for Time.

Being 16, I spent most of my days growing up around the incoherent noise most people into mainstream culture call 'music' so i never considered music to be an art form, more of a way to earn money and fame with little effort involved. Then one day some one very close to me showed me the masterpeice 'Dark Side of the Moon', and my god was it brilliant, each word spoke a million others, each song melded into the next and each note gracefully transitioned off into the next like the colors of the rainbow to collectively make a brilliant piece of art. Now THIS is music.

MY GENERATION SUXX!! listen, while the music of this generation (baby boomers) in general, might appeal more to me. but it doesn't make it more or less, people have different opinions. some might adore this kind of music and others won't. people have different tastes and that's fine. nobody cares if you're 16 and listen to pink floyd, nobody cares if your speech is more sophisticated.

I just wanna say that yesterday I read your comment and today I thought about it all day. I had to come back to this video to reply to tell you your post has resonated with me and inspired me to go harder for my goals. I have a general idea of the layout of where my life will go, I'm still quite young and theres a lot of unknowns, but for me I suppose that means I have lots of choices. I will push hard for my goals and enjoy every day i can, even if that means extracting joy from the most menial of jobs. Thank you stranger somewhere for changing another's life.

pink Floyd is about the wall that seperates two types of people. in each of the songs there are two meanings to each of the songs as pink Floyd is the wall that divides the people who find either meaning. the fans are the bricks that make up that wall.

time is supposed to be relative... but over the years it seems congruent. The same sorrow and disappointments. The same heart ache and depression. But. As I listen to this song. These ensconces of sadness seem to make more sense... and in the short seven minutes i seems as though time is still. It seems as though no matter what happens, it is still only time. No longer is it the determent to life I am forced to endure, but the normality of progression. No longer is the time I experience only sorrow, it is just time. Passing of the ages, without judgement, without recourse. Time is only time. Don't fret on the past or wallow in the sadness because time will only progress, so you might as well go along with it. Don't give up because it only means an end to something that is unending. It doesn't make sense to give up, or wallow in sorrow. It doesn't matter if you relish in happiness. The only truth is time will continue with or without you so make your time with it meaningful and be grateful you have the opportunity. That is all.
