Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb Guitar Solo - Fender Stratocaster vs. Gibson Les Paul
Музыка
The Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb guitar solo was performed David Gilmour on the famous Black Strat, using his DiMarzio FS-1 bridge pickup, through a Big Muff, and split into a Hiwatt DR103 and a Yamaha RA-200 rotating speaker. This guitar tone can be achieved with overdrive, chorus, 300ms delay, and boosted mids. Enjoy this shootout between the Stratocaster and the Les Paul, and comment which one sounds better!
Each guitar was played through the same rig with identical settings.

Dude let me just say...you MURDERED it on both the Strat and Gibson. You are OUTSTANDING!

I’m a Les Paul guy through and through, but the Strat just sounds more “correct” for that song. Well done on both 👍

Sometimes a solid body single coil is what is needed. It just sounds more precise

You hit the nail: it sounds 'more' correct for that song
Great work. They both sound class. I’m surprised how good the Les Paul tone was - I thought it edged it.

Thanks Jonny. Looking back on this video, I agree the Les Paul won, but I think I set the mids too high on the amp for both guitars. The sound isn't as "big" as I would have liked - but then again, no one can sound as good as Dave
Why does this only have 2k views? You killed it bro

The strat definitely has a more open tone when compared to the LP. I like both versions, but this solo would sound good on a ukulele, because it’s a masterpiece written by a master of his craft.
No one can deny the balls the Gibson adds to the tone
I think the effects work more nicely on the strat for this one

Yes single coil have a better respond FX especially modulation.
I mean, the Strat is always gonna sound the best with the song cause David Gilmour uses a Strat
Top notch playing, Apparently whichever the better guitar is doesn't matter in the hands of an artist.
It's like going from mono to stereo! The Gibson sounded totally 3D compared to the Fender. Way more depth and roundedness. Sparkly stuff!
Absolutely AMAZING
Sounds amazing on both. Great job!
Great job man, thanks for this comparison!
Great soaring sounds on both guitars! I'd have to say it's a tie beween them!
Love the comparison!
Strat had more clarity and sustain while Les Paul had more presence. I preferred the Strat. Great video!
Great job Jon! I can immediately hear the difference between the two guitars. The Les Paul almost sounds as if Slash was playing the solo. There's something about the sound of a saturated/distorted strat that suits this song so well. Has more character in my opinion 🎸Well done man
Nailed it....twice. Liked and subscribed. Nice work
Great playing!
brilliant. the strat is the tool for this job but the one I keep listening to is your lp. three or four times on the trot now. great job. thankyou.
BRAVO !!
Strat sounds amazing, but that LP just has that "snarl" that gives me goosebumps.
Beautiful Les Paul! Great sound on both guitars.
Both great sound ,the gibson just stands out more becose of its tone caracter, compliments and thanks !!
Les Paul for me, like a full bodied whiskey. Gorgeous. The only time I ever use Strats or Teles is for the clean neck pickup. Nice chops.
Ou mai fakin gad eso fue increible hermano
LP always punches the sound. Truly amazing.
Came for comparison, stayed for your playing :)
nice comparison!
Gilmour actually used a 55 Les Paul on the solo for Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2). He played it directly into the board.

Yes. Goldtop P90 Les Paul.
Les Paul's will typically have the advantage when they're played with blues based solos, because of their fatter, rounder and warmer tone because of the humbuckers. The strat has a higher treble range because of their single coil pickups. I would go with the Les Paul, but it could do with a bit more midrange to balance it out.
At first, it was really hard to tell because they both sound so good! But after giving it a 2nd and 3rd listen, my vote goes to the Gibson. It's almost imperceptible, but if you listen very closely, the Gibson has a slightly deeper richer sound. Either way... great playing man! 👍
Fender, Fender and Fender!
Very nice comparison video including pedals! Niiiice! And awesome playing! Thanks!! 👍 One of the greatest songs on this planet. Btw, I would love to hear this played with Les Paul with out of phase modded humbuckers 😉👍
The only reason i have a strat instead of a les paul is because of that solo by David Gilmour...its THE sound since i was a teenager
The Les Paul is amazing but The effects go much better with the Stratocaster I think it's the only guitar whose sound can't be replicated entirely Jackson's and Ibanez guitars have Gibson sounds if you listen closely but the Strat is one of a kind And the Strat looks out of this realm of reality
Fabulous !! Did you run all the pedal on the front of the amp, or you put chorus and delay in the fx loop? Thank you
I'll always be Team Fender!
I like the Strat ... a lot ! what model is this one you use ?
Regardez les deux rageux qui ont dislike la vidéo nimporte quoi le gars a fait un vrai job excellent
nice vid- what effets did you use
Nothing sounds better then a strat for comfortably numb
Nice playing ! In your strat are they just standard strat pickups ?
I always like the way the Les Paul sounds. Strat is more correct sounding though.
The reason why it sounds better in strat is because of the single coil pickups As the humbucker just removes the hum so that why we don't feel the full power in Les Paul
Both sound amazing thanks to your playing but the LP sounds a bit too wooly for this song I think
Awsome, i actually prefered les Paul even tough its a strato solo for sure

Yes, I think it's better suited to a Strat but the Les Paul sounds ballsier.

Agree. I prefer the warm tone of the Gibson. It feels more powerful. But when you get into the higher notes and bends the Fender gives it a good run
wow trip out that I liked the Les P as much. On the album the strat is really quite distorted to the level of the gibson here that you did.
Very good! Strings 10-46?
Круто исполнено!!!Мне больше нравится ее на Les Paul исполнять)
zero dudas gibson gana con comodidad buen video pensé no existía el vender vs gibson y lo encontré buen video
I think the Strat sounded more original, but the Gibson had a more robust sound to it. Just my opinion. I have that exact Les Paul Standard you were playing - color, pickups, and all. No Strat yet, but if I do, I'd get one close to what Gilmour uses live. You played both pretty well, and pretty close to the track.
Les paul♥️ sustain ♥️
Stratocaster ❤
LP has a much more melodic and shorter tone, whereas the Strat is more raw with a bit of buzz to it. Both sound great but I always prefer the rawer, messier sound of the single coil Strat. Especially for a song like this
Fender best sound for the song ¡¡¡
I like most the les Paul tone
Мне больше понравился FS. На LP звук конечно более "жирный", но отсутствие рычага делает своё дело.
Your strat what is your use string gauge
Fender all the way
Listen to Doyle Bramhall II and Snowy White trade choruses on the outro of Comfortably Numb on Roger Waters "In the Flesh Live". The former plays Gilmours parts on Strat, and Snowy White improvises on Les Paul. I might even say Snowy's parts are as good as Gimour's. Blasphemy, I know. But listen, and tell me you're not blown away.

I just watched that clip and I was really blown away. Snowy is awesome and the two complement each other nicely (I think I prefer Snowy's LP tone). Is Doyle's guitar strung upside down? Anyway it's a great performance

Thanks for this. Much obliged!
strat just sounds more familiar for obvious reason.
Strat just has that in your face spank, the LP is a little too muffled, I’ll be it’s way easier on that bendy LP though lol
The LP is ballzier and more grounded. However, it just can't soar into the sky like the Strat.
Jon which amp are you using?
The Sound is more better with the Strat !!! The Original is too playing by David's Fender 😉
telecaster 🔥💎
Strat !
Fender cries a little different. I think the strat is the only guitar imo (and tele) whose sound just cannot be mimicked.
The Les Paul sounded interesting no doubt, but the strat could have been Gilmour himself if you didn’t tell me...
Lespaul one was more exotic. ❤
Strat is more atmospheric while Les Paul sounds more Rock N' Roll-ish/Bluesy
what gibson is that?
I love gibson les paul , I think it sounds much better than Fender
What is your use string gauge

Amazingly, the les Paul had a fuller, crisper sound...easier to pick out notes.
Has to be the strat
I’m more of a strat person but the les Paul sounded better to me.
Start wins
Strat all day
Fender only
Strat takes it...
This song was made for a strat.
i prefer les paul , great job
Fender and the others..
Stratocaster здесь более уместен , я полагаю .
The gibson wins imo
FS 1 does it best.
Gilmour always uses Fender Stratocaster not Gibson Lespaul.

I have the same Les Paul but mine sounds nothing like yours…oh wait, I can’t play for shit.
LP wins
Where are the pedals nobody had 1958 ? Nope.
Strat is better
Are you crazy? The mid's are WAY to high. Sounds nothing like david gilmore. Your not even playing it well.

@@VintageRadius you are right. What I said was unnecessarily critical, and I realize that it is not my place to be so rude. Honestly, it was immature of me. A better man would have complimented the great effort that John Sallama put into this video, and maybe then offered some suggestions for improving the tone. But I was not that better man. My ego had gotten the best of me on this occasion, and I was driven by impulsivity to say something I shouldn’t have said. James, thank you for putting me in my place. I have been working to fix myself lately, and to be a better person. That starts now.
