Pikmin Review - A Great Little Game
Ойындар
Get it? Little? Because the game is short, but Pikmin are also tiny. I'm so clever, I know.
Yeah, I've decided to drop "Was Always Good" as the name of my review series. As much as I love the stupid in-joke, it hurts the performance of the videos. Still keeping Sonic Was Always Good, of course. That one works and is a bit iconic to me at this point. But for other series, it's just gonna be reviews with a subtitle. A small sacrifice to make the videos do much better.
I didn't mention it in the video, but I also enjoy the weird creatures and the vibes of Pikmin. But I gotta say, don't care too much for the music. I know many Pikmin fans go nuts for it. But it doesn't really stand out to me very much. It's fine. But not much more than that, if you ask me.

First the Crash reviews now Pikmin!? Pariah just casually dropping videos on my two favorite franchises.
Pikmin is one of those games that at times feel chill to play but can surprise you with anxiety inducing moments! I love this series and I love how much recognition it's getting nowadays. Some years ago I thought of a punishment system for letting too many Pikmin die on a day, something like an Olimar mood meter, the more he sees his army perish, the less mood he has and thus he acts at slow speeds the bigger the massacre is! Then I realized it would be super detrimental to the quality of the game... I think that for the start of the series, Pikmin 1 is a good game as it is despite its glitches and problems
That panic at the end when the Pikmin were approaching the rocks when the timer was hitting 0
Ironically, despite the 30 day time limit being very generous, a lot of people STILL get turned away because of it being "too stressful." Its like the very fact that there is a time limit at all is just too much to handle or something.
I was so obsessed with Pikmin when it came out back in 2001 that I even plagiarized the whole story for an essay competition thing I had to do for school but just set the story in my backyard. That game mesmerized me! And I remember getting the exclusive trophies in Melee if you had Pikmin on your memory card 🥰 Haven’t played it since the Wii days, excited to play it again, waiting for the physical Switch release in Sept.
Enjoyed this series since it released.
Pikmin 1 is one of the reasons why I have positive memories about the Gamecube. I absolutely love that game and it's replayability. The Gamecube in general had a ton of games which were focused on replayability. Luigis Mansion 1 is one of the most replayable games ever. Super Mario Sunshine is, in my opinion, the most replayable 3D Mario game due to it's near flawless controls and a great learning curve. Even something more niche like Wario World is at least somewhat focused on replayability. And honestly, I think Pikmin 1 is the best game in terms of replayability Nintendo has ever produced. It's fun on a first playthrough but can be even MORE fun on replays. Honestly, the comparison is kinda weird, but one of the things which always annoy me about certain Sonic games and Devil May Cry games is how much I do not enjoy them on a first playthrough. Sonic Unleashed is one of my favorite Sonic games but I would lie if I said that it was fun on my first playthrough (just talking about gameplay here). Similar to that I think Devil May Cry can be really punishing and unenjoyable on a first playthrough. ESPECIALLY in comparison to follow-up playthroughs. The point of these games is the replayability. Every fan of DMC games and/or (most) Sonic games knows this. The biggest flaw of these games is, in my opinion, how inaccessible they are and how frustrating they can be for new players. Pikmin 1 doesn't really have this flaw. It can be enjoyed on a first time playthrough but is also VERY replayable. Because of that it is, in my opinion, the best example of replayability in gaming.👍 Although Luigis Mansion 1 & Megaman X1 are equally as good in that regard, in my opinion.

Just finished prey 2017 recently and I see myself replaying that alot, definitely a contender
I remember renting the original when I was little and feeling intimidated by it. It wasn't until they re-released the games on Wii where I started to really like them, to me it was far more intuitive to aim and throw using the sensor bar than making micro-adjustments on the control stick to make sure Olimar is facing the right direction. I also have complex relationship with the second game, because I thought it was a massive disappointment at first. But as my tastes shifted, I really started to appreciate the things they did with the game's design. Nerd warming: Personally, I think Pikmin 2 has some of the best enemy design in any Nintendo or even most 3D games. In most 3D games, they mostly just focus on 1-on-1 battles and it's difficult to do things like crowd control while also giving enemies unique abilities and attributes. Because of Pikmin's camera and simple aim and shoot combat, you do a lot of enemy design that's mostly found in 2D games and the game does a good job utilizing clusters of enemies and have to deal enemies with different elemental weaknesses, attack ranges, height, mobility or even just enemies placed in inconvenient locations. Calling a game "The Dark Souls of x" gets ridiculed for a very good reason, but I also feel like the two games also have a similar philosophy when it comes to gameplay.
Great pick, man.

Hell yeah, I was wondering if you'd talk about Pikmin, considering the attention the series has gotten recently. This will be a treat to watch!
let's go you are talking about pikmin
I played Pikmin 1 back on the gamecube but I was quickly put off by the time limit and never got out of the garden of hope.I didnt play another pikmin game until 3 and I ended up really liking it enough to go back and play 1 again since I had time off work due to covid and decided to play this game.I managed to beat the game in 27 days, second playthrough in 20,and third playthrough in only 15 days. This game quickly became one of my favorite games in a very short amount of time. Now I can see why pikmin fans love this series so much.

Can you tell me how I can get more star rating under each level? I just started playing, and on levels 1 and 2, I only got 1 star.. How do I get the full stars rating? Is there a certain way I need to play the game or finish it at a certain time ⏲️
I was hoping you’d cover pikmin before the drop of 4
If there was a harder mode, maybe the game could limit each onion to only 100 pikmin ever. So if you take out 100 reds for instance, that's all the reds you're ever gonna have. No surplus.
This game reminds me of "Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee", which was released in the same year. Great review, as usual!
20:35 *Dramatic gasp HOW DARE YOU!?!?!?😢😢😭😭😢😱😱😫😨😫😨😡🤬😡🤬🤯😳👿🥜
Thank you for spreading the good word. I love this series so much.
Wooooooooo parhia is becoming a pikmin fan
dear god... the idea of ENJOYING a time limit is unfathomable to me. i couldn't play this game because it stressed me out so bad. also lmao @ pikmin dying, honestly. i always get attached to cute creatures but the pikmin death sound cracks me up to this day.
Finally. One of the best series reviewed by one of the best reviewers!
Pickled men is indeed great
1:03 "I'm really digging this" Glad you PIK up the game eventually
Hell yeah, hope you do 2, 3, and maybe even 4!
I love watching your sub count increase.
If youre a fan of timeloop games, i gotta recommend prey mooncrash, which i got obsessed with recently, its the dlc for prey 2017, which does the timeloop better than deathloop imo. Id definitely recommend prey if youre a fan of metroid prime
lets gooo pikmin bros
Suppose every Sonic fan needs something with more heart , even if they don't care. In the end , you want to know that your emotions and opinions are valid. Understanding , sincerity , and moral backbone create great stories. And this game had a great one.
Honestly, since the first Pikmin game I played was the Wii version of Pikmin 2, and then I played original Pikmin 3 on Wii U and then Deluxe later, and THEN I watched Chuggaacpnroy play the first game on his channel! I thought playing the original Pikmin on Switch would not be as much of a fun experience as the other two games since I was spoiled on them for their quality of life changes and interesting new mechanics, but no, I actually had as much fun maybe even more fun than the other two games since it was a new experience and because I never played it before AND almost everything in the game was still polished! So yeah, for everyone reading this, I highly recommend you still play this game and not skip to 2 just because it looks the plainest out of all of them, plus, the original charm of just Olimar crash landing and needing the Pikmin to help him getting his ship parts, creating a very bittersweet relationship between Olimar and the Pikmin and making the Pikmin more dependent on themselves is so great!
I wonder what you think of the Pikmin 3 mission mode
If the gyro was on all the time the pointer would drift and cause it to get stuck to sides of the screen. In Mario 3d all stars they had the gyro always on for the cursor in Mario Galaxy, and they had to add a button that centered the cursor because it would drift, and you pretty much had to press the button every few minutes. It wasn’t game breaking, but it wasn’t ideal.
Pikmin has always been my favourite Nintendo series, it makes me so happy to see it getting the attention it deserves, maybe this time it won’t stay in limbo for a decade
I had always loved the idea of Pikmin but I wasn't really able to wrap my brain around it as a kid. I was also obsessed with letting none of my Pikmin die so that made things a lot harder for me.
Pikmin always intrigued me ever since I first saw it in Luigi's Mansion's options menu (kind of a weird spot for a Pikmin trailer but ok), definitely got both Pikmin 1 and 2 back in the day mostly because of Chuggaaconroy's let's play. Absolute GOATage

I'm interested in the games. They seem like cool time management games. But I'm way too much of a bitch to play them lol.
Pikmin is one of the best rts change my mind
So it's like the school mode of Danganronpa trigger happy havoc?
Pikmin is not an RTS. It definitely contains some RTS elements (having a main base, controlling many units at once), but it lacks others (building your main base, directing your units around the map directly, upgrades, enemy bases, etc...). RTS is really a much more PvP focused genre than Pikmin or any of the Pikmin-likes out there. I'd say that Pikmin successfully created a new genre. There are other games made since Pikmin's release that are Pikmin-likes. Overlord (& Overlord 2) were the first of these Pikmin-likes that I was aware of and are great games. (I don't recommend Overlord: Dark Legend.) Another great one that's a lot more recent is Tinykin (which has a demo available to try out on the Switch if you're interested).

@@uboa8060 The Bingo Battle & Dandori Battle modes? ...They're not great.
I beat it for the first time yesterday in 28 days. Looking to shave it down to 10
You don't really need to be all that great at time management to complete the game. If you want to complete it in just 6 days you certainly need to, but you're not likely to even reach day 30 playing at a fairly casual but consistent pace. Though it's not as loose & irrelevant as Pikmin 3's juice limit.
Pikmin 2 is the best Pikmin game, but can easily be topped by Pikmin 4 when it comes out
Hi I just started playing Pikmin 1 and after finishing the 1 and 2 levels I got 1 star mark..How do I get all the stars for finishing the levels? Is there a way I need to play the game, or do I need to be faster in finishing the levels in or order to get a full mark? Thanks
Pariah feels nothing when the Pikmin die UNSUB 😤
Pikmin is a series I WANT to enjoy, but I hate the limitations. I would prefer a longer game purely focused on exploration. Let me explore the planet's many areas, and uncover the mysteries of the world! No limited oxygen, no limited food, ect. The time management mechanic feels like the biggest limitation. I'm sorry, but it's not fun for me. If I want to be on a time limit, I'd take a double shift at my job!

@@NIMPAK1 2 was better, but the sundown timer was still annoying. Caves were a cool idea, but still not what I had in mind. I'm hoping 4 will be closer to what I want. I really do want to play a Pikmin game that I can enjoy. I hate being one of the few people that doesn't like the series.
Should I just play the games on switch or emulate the first 3?
There are so many great games that feel like they’re “holding back” for the sake of accessibility or catering to a broader audience. I suppose you can always take on self-imposed challenges or play for score. After all, there are definitely people who are going to struggle with Pikmin regardless of its forgiving difficulty.
U monster!
