Pickled Eggs Old Fashion Country Style

Calvin makes a jar of old fashion country pickled eggs. This is a very popular recipe and they are delicious. Please share this video with your friends on Facebook and other social media outlets.
Pickled Eggs Old Fashion Country Style
This recipe will make two dozen pickled eggs.
Start by boiling and peeling 2 dozen eggs.
Brine Mixture:
2 cups white vinegar
1 cup water
3 tsp salt
¼ cup sugar
¼ tsp pickling spices
A few onion slices (optional)
Mix these ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil.
Let brine cool for five minutes
Add eggs to a jar
Add onion slices (optional)
Add a few twigs of fresh dill (optional)
Add ¼ tsp pickling spices
If necessary you can add a little vinegar to cover eggs
Put the lid on jar and seal good.
We refrigerate the eggs for 7 to 10 days before eating
You can eat them after one day but they only get better with time
These eggs can be left on the counter without refrigeration, but it is not recommended by health officials, just be
Sure to keep the lid very tight.
I hope you enjoy my old fashion country store recipe
Calvin

I remember seeing these on the counter of our old country store as a kid in SE Wyoming. Now that I'm 79, I figure it's about time I tried 'em! This is 2023, so I'm a bit late to the party, but I've got the eggs boiled up and have to get some fresh dill at the store, put the brine together, let it sit for 10 days (!!) and chow down. Thanks for making this episode, and I hope all is well with you and yours.

I watched a British guy who has a huge egg pickling operation. He found that gently rolling the eggs between your palms is the easiest and safest way to peel any hard boiled egg. I’ve been doing that for the last two or three years and it works really well. Just don’t squash them just gently roll after giving the shell a tap to crack it open

I'm nearing 75 years young and just found your site and it's a site for sore eyes, living in Vietnam I do miss western cooking I'm welsh by the way. Born just after WWII food was tight so mum would make ends meet, pickled eggs, Bath chap, Scotch eggs etc. Cold roast meat, pickles and bubble & squeak Mondays with Sundays left overs. So I got to bottling pickled eggs and tried many different ingredients from the spice shelf. My favourite was red chillies fresh from the garden, just enough to give them a zing. Also tried different vinegars and really liked the apple one. Will now check out other recipes on your site, so thank you in advance for sharing with us. Happy eating!!!!!

If you run a toothpick through the eggs they will absorb the pickling juice quicker. I boil my jars and lids to sanitize. I like to use several different hot sauces with my brine. I also put jalapeno peppers. Some of you might think that would be too hot but then the vinegar calms down the heat quite a lot. I use them more for the flavors (and a little heat). I've done the above recipe and they are really great.

I also enjoy eating pickled eggs and have found a super easy method for making my own. When I make homemade kosher-style pickles, I save the remaining pickle juice after eating the pickles and simply place my hardboiled eggs in the jar and juice until it is completely full and refrigerate for about ten days before eating. I can repurpose the pickle brine for about two batches. Very simple. Hint: if you have difficulty peeling your eggs, try using an Instant Pot to make hardboiled eggs, they peel perfectly every time.

If you need to put some eggs up and don't have time to mess around, pickle them in Franks (any cayenne pepper sauce) and you are done. I've tried to heat them up with habenero sauce etc, but eggs just won't hold the heat so don't worry about making them too spicy. Goes great in your lunch bucket.
