Picasso and Paper: virtual exhibition tour

Ойын-сауық

Experience our Picasso and Paper exhibition from your own home in this video tour of the galleries, created before the Royal Academy had to close its doors due to coronavirus.
Picasso didn't just draw on paper - he tore it, burnt it, and made it three-dimensional. From studies for 'Guernica' to a 4.8-metre-wide collage, this exhibition brings together more than 300 works on paper spanning the artist's 80-year career.

Thanks for this. Some feedback for future videos. I had hoped to see some close ups of Picasso's work on paper. Distant views of a wall with postage stamps on it show nothing. James Kalm in NY has mastered the art of how to show art on line. Text can be shown as a transcript btw. Good luck with future videos.

This was the most well presented life-time video I’ve seen. The well written information was wonderful, the music was perfect for reflection, the close up shots were very much appreciated. I soaked up every frame into my heart. Even though Back in 1973 I was a high school art teacher for nine years, I now at age 70, have a greater understanding and love for Picasso because of this presentation. I cried through one third of this remarkable video. Thank you so very much for the excellence you provided !! 💕😘❤️ 🌿🌸🍃

Really appreciate the video during the lockdown. It is great to "see" the exhibition this way. However, just small suggestions to make it better. 1) more closeup to the drawings and paintings, 2) or uploading scans/photos of drawings that allow photographing, (to members)? 3) in the video, especially the last period, the intro focused on his last self portrait one year before his death. However, the most important painting is not shown in the video. He has several self portraits facing death. Very eager to know which one is on show!! Thank you all again for the wonderful video!

I think they have to negotiate a delicate balancing act between making art accessible to us, and not doing themselves out of in-person audiences. They have to leave us wanting more.

i extremely enjoyed this exhibition as although it is online the music and visuals really engrossed me in the experience and it was informative with the detailed explanations of context and the inspiration behind work that you wouldn't even necessarily get to see if you were there in person so made you reflect on pieces more deeply that you may have usually skipped over heightening the appreciation of the work. Also i think it showed an impressive span of his career given the relatively concise nature of the exhibition which helped to engage me more. if there was one thing i'd say i didn't necessarily like is that i don't think the images were as close up as i would of liked as you couldn't see much detail there and at times it felt disconnected from the text.
