+carl perkins --- my thoughts and feelings exactly! i thougt pia's answers to the questions carried her to the front. btw, there was some weird silence in the audience as well, the audience response to miss colombia's winning was lackluster. then steve harvey walked in to announced the mistake. (i was actually watching the show family feud for an hour where steve is a host biding my time until the miss universe was up). and this i have to say, pia and the filipinos were robbed of their moment, that joyful first moments to rejoice when the winner is announced once, that traditional crowning moment, first walk, etc...

For me this is the very best national costume from the Philippines since 2010. It is just absolutely stunningly perfect. This is how national costumes should be in Miss Universe. It is a representation of the country but does not overpower the wearer. The others are like cosplay costumes lol.

Philippines "The Pearl Of The Orient" + Filipiniana/Terno = this amazing dress. Kudos to Albert Andrada for such an amazing design concept and execution and to Pia for carrying the gown and headpiece so amazingly. The 2nd best part was the way she said "Philippines", with much enthusiasm but no hint of nervousness. Go for the crown Pia, kapwa Kagay-anon. :)

The National Costume especially with that headpiece reminds me of the Manila Carnival Queens of the 1930s, it's where Filipino beauty pageants originated add the fact that the Filipiniana modern terno that most of our representatives wore was popularized during the 1920s-1930s. Now this is what we call a national costume. It represents something about the culture, the history, the tradition and the art of our country. Though I hope they will also wear the traditional, Maria Clara dress with a big big full skirt.

It was the time when Traje de Mestiza moved away from the traditional baro't saya, to a modern one-piece gown, and dropped 19th-century pieces such as panuelo and the tapis. The sillhouette remained the same but the fabric and the patterns became bolder as the decades went on. That's when Imelda Marcos' popularization kicked in. In the late 1960s and throughout the 1970s, Imelda popularized Terno once again in contemporary Philippine fashion with bolder and more vibrant colors and patterns as well as more diverse fabrics. Imelda Marcos popularized a contemporary haute couture 60s version of Terno, but the Philippine Terno has been existing and has been popular since the 1930s. Imelda just popularized a sleek 1960s contemporary version of the terno, and made it iconic.
